Cell Phone Thread

We haven't had one of these threads in a while. So what's interesting you in the world of cell phones (or 'mobiles' for people like me)?

Anyway, heres some new SE phones:

And the annoyingly Asia only Premini-II

I've been a fan of the Sony Ericsson T6xx series but I'm reluctant to upgrade to one of their newer phones. Both my T616 and T637 basically have audio drop outs. I'll have a great signal, full bars, but audio will still cut out now and then like I'm going through a tunnel or something.

Right now I'd like to get a bluetooth flip phone that has an intenna because I hate antennas. The Samsung E720 looks to fit that description. I'm tempted to get one.

It's a damned crime that some of these phones rarely make it over to the U.S. And when they do, it's often long after the phone dropped in the rest of the world.

I have a very basic one that can send txt messages and call people.
No confusing menus
No excess features
Just bare bones, balls to the wall functionality.

I'm a big fan of camera phones, and I think that as the technology starts to get small enough, they're likely to replace the consumer-grade stuff that's out there right now. (There will always be a market for the high-end, professional level digital cameras). Alternatively, I think it'd be great if dedicated digital cameras could start talking to cell networks, or at least WiFi hotspots. The ability to take a picture, and then immediately send it anywhere in the world is very cool.

Anyway, I'm judging these on design alone. I'd have to read more in-depth reviews on them to see if they're actually up to snuff as far as voice quality and radio signal goes, which, at the end of the day, are the most important parts of the phone.

The SE K750i:

The Nokia N90:

Sony-Ericsson S700/S710 (same phone, the model number differs depending on the country):

Then, of course, you just have the new Motorola phones. And although I'm not a huge fan of candy-bar style phones, this along with the K750i actually does tickle my fancy. I think I actually like it more than the RAZR:

I've been getting problems like that with my t610, but i'm not sure if its the phone or the carrier thats the problem.

I've been thinking about getting the K750 to replace it, does anyone have any experience with it?

EDIT: Anyone seen these new Nokia concept pictures?

And a screen of what seems to be a new phone graphics engine

You cant go wrong with the Nokia smartphones. They are pc's in your hand and are killer phones to boot with best of breed features. N91 will be very big. WiFi , 3G, 4GB HardDisk etc. The 3D graphics demo above is from one of the phones. Also N-Gage game support is now standard among all these new phones.

Think about it. You are on the go. Can access email and internet at broadband speed as well use location based services like local maps and info. Take pictures at great picture quality whenever the need arises as they are high quality for phones. 4GB HD for all media and storage. Ability to install new codecs like divx, ogg etc. Watch tv if your phone supports it. Do all the PDA functions like use Office documents etc. Advanced phone features like reject call with text. Play games using emaultor or buy N-Gage games. Lots of apps to use from bizzare to very useful. Its just so handy to have. :)

Bluetooth is pretty much a necessity for me these days. I can't imagne talking on the phone in my car without a BT headset now.

I don't really care about a lot of the features most of the new phones have on them, mainly because a lot of them really destroy your battery life and leave your phone useless for what you really need it for.

My Nokia 6230 is pretty old now, I got it last year, so I am guessing it should be a pretty cheap phone right now and it has BT, internal antenna, and brilliant reception. Can't recommend it enough. And if you want to have fun and kill your battery life with internet surfing, watching movies, etc., the 6230 covers all of those too.

Too bad to hear about the SE phones. I always loved the way they looked and I was thinking that I might try one out when I get tired of this phone in a few years.

im a moron when it comes to technology but what does bluetooth offer? what is it really?

Short-range radio transmission. It can be used to wirelessly sync a PDA with a PC, or, more commonly, a wireless hands-free kit.

Bluetooth sucks for battery life though, doesn't it?

BTW here's some triva for you - I recall hearing that Bluetooth technology was named so because some viking a long time ago united a bunch of countries yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, he loved eating blueberries and got the nickname (or name..?) Bluetooth or something.

Well, something like that. I think that's how it goes!

Wow, most unconfirmed post ever :lol

WiFi will be big as well complimenting bluetooth. I'd like to see more online game on phones as you can play them literally anywhere.

Not really. It shortens it of course but its a perfectly practical useable feature :)

It does shorten it, but not to a point where it becomes a nuisance. With normal usage I can usually squeeze out 3 days max on my cellphone with or without bluetooth.
