I'm sure there's something. Maybe there'll be something that plays on the fact that they have magnets in there. Should be easy to attach various things to it.

It is. There are benchmarks showing it, the A57s on the Switch were already almost at that level per single core. They just needed more cores, which we're getting now and the A78s already have a 3X raw IPC advantage over the A57s as is.

I wouldnt be surprised to see ports of games that missed the switch but run on steam deck like elden ring

Correction...running Kena on Switch 2 may look similar to PS4, but Zelda will look much better, because N will do what they always do.

Yeah they were able to put in slightly faster memory modules. Previous leaks were assuming LPDDR5 not 5X

The bandwidth should actually be 120GB/s for the 7500 MT/s RAM they are using. And Rog Ally already scales fine to higher power levels with its 102.4 GB/s.

I have to say I'm a little bummed they didn't go with the GMLX35-R-A1 but I guess this is how it usually goes with Nintendo. But they at least should've used the GMLX30-R-B2 IMO

It doesn't change that much, but it avoids bandwidth overflow like the original Switch trickling down to CPU performance.

It's closer to the iterative design of the GB and DS series of handhelds imo.
NES -> SNES is the one exception in consoles.
N64 -> GC had a lot of changes, many of which were ultimately underutilized.

The biggest obstacle for this device is going to be Storage. Presumably games will be a mandatory install rather than running from physical otherwise the load times and data streaming will be horrendous. The
only way around this would be a much faster cartridge which would mean much higher production costs for physical games, don't see that happening. Third Party already hated using large cartridges on Switch.
256gb is not enough and current SD cards are too slow for next-gen games. We heard earlier this year that Samsung is working with an unnamed company to create a custom product, a fast SD card. Potentially this could be used for the Switch 2 and allow games to be installed to them but still have decent performance: https://news.samsung.com/global/sam...ce-ai?utm_source=nr_twitter&utm_medium=social
The problem is those SD cards are probably going to be expensive. We'll have to see what Nintendo has in store but it could be a problem for particularly 3rd party games. Install CoD and over half your storage is gone and only expensive new SD Express MicroSD can be used to install games to.
This is the problem Nintendo has to have solved and we'll see what their plan is. If it's expensive memory cards then yikes.

Are we sure Nintendo it's not going to downclock the memory as well?
7500 MT/s is the rating of the module itself, we don't know the clocks Nintendo will actually use to limit power consumption

It's regular desktop Ampere, just shrunk to these levels. Performance measurements should be on line with a card similar in size, like the 2050 (Ampere based).

Not happening from my knowledge. LPDDR5X has no efficiency advantages over LPDDR5 as is, it's like an official overclock. It was assuredly chosen for a reason but I can see it being downclocked for the handheld mode, you don't really need that much with a ballpark of 2 TFLOPS.

It's actually closer to between a x3 to x4 uplift...depending on workload.
Remember, the PS5 CPU is actually slower than the 3700X shown in this benchmark, which was run before the full CPU specs of the PS5 were known, such as having a much reduced cache which can affect performance quite hard.

That's true. I think 4X both in single and multicore is very realistic, although being honest with you... 5X could happen, the CPU could be easily clocked twice as high this time around (1ghz vs 2ghz).

That's one of the best ergonomically designed handhelds out there, imo. Has other issues, but comfort ain't one of them.

Also, Switch 2 games could target 720p in handheld mode and upscale to 1080 after rendering, which means assets won't have to be at the same resolutions as the highest end PS4 games since the difference wouldn't be that noticable on a small screen.
So 120 GB/s may very well get you plenty of bang for your buck in handheld.

I wonder how quickly Nintendo will get gud at using DLSS and ray tracing in their games. I guess TotK already used a spacial upscaler (FSR 1.0), so they're not defacto allergic to the idea. But real ass DLSS is SO much better. I wonder if they will lean into it hard to get the most ray tracing crammed into the thing.
Also wonder if the Nvidia-created tech, like Ray Reconstruction, is available to the Switch 2. It could really use something like Ray Reconstruction given how low resolution the baseline imagery will be.

It outperforms the Steam Deck by 20%/30% yes, with AI upscaling and some decent RT to boot. Docked mode should be the single fastest mobile device in the market, beating the likes of top end PC handhelds handily despite the less memory amount.
