Post your pledges!

So far I'm only in for the DVD. I live in NYC so its not really realistic for me to attend the premier or go on the studio tour.

Edit:

They now have some making of videos (and other enjoyable stuff) posted under the 'Updates' tab on the page.

Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine are two of the best written films I have ever seen. However, 20$ for a digital download of a 40 minute movie is too much... I feel that they would get a lot more money at 10$...

I'm a bit split, but I'll probably contribute...

the frame rate is horrible. they should consider switching to a discrete graphics card.

Not sure how I feel about this. I love Kaufman, but I'm not digging the look of this studio's stop motion work. I wish Kaufman would return to collaborating with Spike Jonze.

Dream team. Their individual efforts are poor in comparison to their collabs. They're like Megazord.

What?

Do you mean that when they say this:...
PLEDGE $20 OR MORE
BY POPULAR DEMAND! A digital download of Anomalisa once the film has been distributed!

... they are lying? It kinda looks that $20 will allow me do download the movie...

There's also this thing called supply and demand, and I'm theorizing that if the reward was given at $10 the amount of backers at that level would more than double, therefore increasing their funding. I'm pretty sure that is how kickstarter works.

Should have put "From Charlie Kaufman and the creator of Moral Orel" in the thread title

And those of you who haven't watched moral Orel, do it immediately.

you're not paying $20 for the movie. you're putting your $20 towards helping fund the movie. as an additional reward you get the movie.

That's exactly the same sentence, just reworded. I'm paying $20 for A+B. Whether I'm doing it for A or for B is my business, isn't it?

The point is: would easily pay $10 to help fund the movie if I got to download it. I definitely won't pay $15 to help fund the movie and a get a downloadable poster, and I'm not sure if I'll pay $20 to help fund the movie and get to download it.

I actually thought a lot about the thread title before I submitted it.

Community has a much bigger footprint on GAF than Morel Orel plus I assumed that anyone who is a fan of Dino Stamatopoulos would know the name Starburns. Also, the stop motion studio is even called Starburns Industries which gives that phrase in the thread title a double meaning.

Eh, now I'm second guessing myself. Oh well.

After watching Synecdoche, New York I think Charlie Kaufman should just direct his own movies. Best movie of the last 20 years.

Still not getting it. People donate to support these. It's like buying a badge/pin to support a charity for $10. You're not buying a $10 badge, you're buying a badge and donating $10 to the charity.

It's not that hard to grasp.

It's the same whichever way you look at it. Spend money now to fund the product you're going to buy, or spend money later on a product that has already cost the company to make.

The thought-process is identical: what do I get and is that worth my money?

I think Shaneus' point is that the concept of helping to get the venture off the ground is rewarding in and of itself and thus adds value to 'purchase', making the $20 price worth it.

I think RJT's point is that he recognizes the value added benefit of a Kickstarter project, only his bar is still $10 and not $20.

I personally just want to see that this gets made and I'm excited about other projects the studio might work on if this is successful. I chose the $50 option because that's what I want to kick in. The me the DVD is worth about $10 and the kickstart notion is worth the other $40.

I have no interest in a DVD - I've left that format behind and I'm certainly not paying 50 goddamn dollars for a non-HD copy - but I'd pay for a Blu Ray.

Otherwise, I'll go in for the download version once I've been paid this month.

Thank you. I love kickstarter, but this is still a business transaction where I'm paying something and get something back. People need to realize that as soon as they offer rewards it stops being charity. Now, if you're doing it and expect nothing in return, that's your perrogative, and more power to you. But that is not how Kickstarter works.

But this is completely off-topic, so let's just stick to the subject at hand, which is a potentially great project by a talented team. Sorry for helping derail the thread.

You're acting like $40 is the price of the final DVD, it's not. You're pledging money for the project and in return they're offering a DVD. It's similar to how you can get a free tote bag if you pledge so many dollars to PBS. You're not purchasing the tote bag.

Also I was totally turned off by the fact that nowhere they tell you what the movie's about.

This kind of stuff bugs me a little bit. I refuse to believe it couldn't be funded in a traditional sense. It just seems to me like gaming the system and takes away from Kickstarter's real goal and focus.

I feel kinda similar.
I guess i'll give the 20$ anyway, though.

I'm torn. I love the talent going behind this as a big fan of Kaufman's films as well as Harmon's and Dino's Community (Morel Orel is meh), but I just don't like Kickstarters.

These guys dont need kickstarter.

Shouldn't Kaufman have enough money to finance this by himself lol
I totally disagree. What do you think the commercial value is of a 40 minute stop motion short?

Such a shame that his last film got the ax.
Exactly. Just because he is respected doesn't mean producers are lining up to give him money.

If you're really so hung up about the DVD why don't you just give $10? That way you won't get a DVD and you can stop thinking of this as a purchase...

Is this a joke? They make it very clear that they want to do something that adheres to their pure creative vision without the interference of anyone else. How is that not a perfectly legitimate use of KS?

Of course it isn't a joke. Kaufman has won an Academy Award and been nominated for two others while winning numerous other major awards. To suggest he couldn't a.) afford $200k on his own or b.) be given $200k to make something without significant influence from a studio is absolutely unbelievable to me -- I literally do not believe it for one second. $200k is nothing in the grand scheme of things in the entertainment world.

Kickstarter to me, should be used as a "last resort" and/or used by people who have neat ideas but aren't well established enough to get funding from other places. I dislike the concept of people who have other means using it to get huge, interest free loans from the public.

Has every source of funding in the world evaporated? Why are bigshots who could probably source and command interest by other means resorting to this?

Kickstarter: the most awesome and misunderstood concept ever.

People should really stop saying what you should or shouldn't do in Kickstarter. The rules are pretty clear, and you either accept them or don't. It's not a purchase, it's not a loan, and it's not charity. It's a risky donation with promised rewards. Key word for me being: rewards. I'm a selfish guy.
