Charlize Theron Hurt On The Set of Aeon Flux... WHAT? THERE'S AN AEON FLUX MOVIE?!

I just heard about it on Access Hollywood (I don't watch it, was just flipping channels). It was "breaking news". Too bad.

But I didn't know they were working on a movie based on the cartoon! I loved that show and... interesting casting choice.

Yeah, that movie was announced eons ago. Theron had signed on well before her Oscar and many thought that afterwards she'd dump the project to do more Oscar-caliber roles (and there were reports it would've been very easy for her to get out of production). But she stayed true to her word and was working on the project, quite happily I heard, until this incident.

That's class if you ask me.

LOS ANGELES -- Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron was injured while shooting her new Paramount film, Aeon Flux, in Germany, but her representatives aren't saying how badly she was hurt.

Theron suffered the unspecified injury while doing her own stunts in a wire-hanging action sequence, the movie's publicist, Jeanmarie Carrasco, told The Associated Press Tuesday.

"No cuts, no broken bones," Carrasco said. "I think it was something less tangible than that. ... Something vague and nagging."

Al Pacino? I kid, I kid.

I hope she doesn't go all post Oscar Berry on us & announce she's doing Far Cry with Uwe next month or some shit.

I really liked Aeon Flux, even though I have always hated Peter Chung's art style. Will be interesting to see how the film pans out.

The idea has potential, however, Charlize Theron has too cute of a face to play the main character. I don't get why they picked her.

Charlize Theron is too cute? This is news to me... she's attractive, sure, but not too cute for Aeon.

The face will depend on the makeup I think. However, I think she has the right body-frame to play Aeon. I mean just look at her legs :drool

Besides, it will all come down to attitude

question: is Peter Chung at all involved with the movie? If not *bomb*bomb*

I have been in love with that women ever since I saw Mighty Joe Young. Oh, what a crappy movie, but I still sat through the whole thing :)

Why does Peter Chung have to be involved? The Aeon Flux series ranged from bad-to-average, the Reign was just fucking terrible. I don't see him as any kind of master storyteller...

I would rather have it in the hands of someone very competent. The main problem is that the cartoon's style really doesn't translate well to live action. A bikini assassin with gigantic curls in her hair just looks kind of absurd.

The best news about this project is that it likely means that MTV will re-issue the out-of-print Aeon Flux DVDs....or better yet, they will do a new high-quality transfer with commentaries and extras and stuff.

Is Karyn Kusama, whose only other film was the low-budget chick boxing movie Girlfight, competant enough for you?

I thought Chung's shorts were excellent, the half hours were crappy, but then, they were written by others.

At the very least they should have him doing concepts.

The shorts were admittedly the early pinnacle of the franchise, but I kinda doubt Chung's ability to work outside of the 5-10 minute range (see also: Reign). They were all pretty slick and high-concept, but if they had gone on much longer they would have been tedious. "Girl slays thousands and suffers an unlikely/ironic death" is probably not what studios are looking for anyhow. The movie needs all the intrigue of the animated series without some of the lamer elements that weighed it down.

I'm not saying that the team they have on the film now is fantastic, but I don't see why Chung should necessarily be the one to write/direct...

I never saw Girlfight, but it got decent enough reviews as I recall and obviously the director has a talent for "tough-girl" flicks. Until I read some terrible script reviews or see some horrific set photos I will remain cautiously optimistic.

Peter Chung should be involved becuase he's the creator of Aeon Flux and the original director. Is that not a good enough reason for you?

And you keep blaming him for Reign/Alexander. How is that his fault? He didn't create it, write it, or even direct it. All he did was character designs. The story wasn't his doing nor was the direction.

In my book the shorts were weighed down by nothing. They were smart, mean, perverted and engaging -- and only Samurai Jack has done as much with visual action since.

It's a shame the half-hours had to muck it up with all that dialogue.

Phil Hay, scribe of Crazy/Beautiful.
Story credit for The Tuxedo.

If they don't have a good production designer and effects they're so boned.

well they could just copy the Art Design of the show, but as was mentioned above, 'her flaps would take a hit'.

but who knows, it 'could' be ok, god knows there is no competition on the sci-fi front.
what? episode3?
