Two years later than it was originally supposed to happen, NBA All-Star Weekend will indeed be heading to Charlotte, North Carolina, the Charlotte Hornets announced.

The three-day event will be held on a Friday through Sunday, Feb. 15-17, climaxing in Sunday night's All-Star Game. Most events, including the game and various skills competitions, will be held uptown at the Spectrum Center.

The league moved this year's game away from North Carolina due to the state's controversial bathroom bill. The HB2 bill has been repealed, though some believe that repeal did not go far enough. In a press release Wednesday morning, Silver discussed those concerns. Via NBA.com:

While we understand the concerns of those who say the repeal of HB2 did not go far enough, we believe the recent legislation eliminates the most egregious aspects of the prior law. Additionally, it allows us to work with the leadership of the Hornets organization to apply a set of equality principles to ensure that every All-Star event will proceed with open access and anti-discrimination policies. All venues, hotels and businesses we work with during All-Star will adhere to these policies as well.

Silver added that he hopes the NBA and the All-Star Game can play a role in changing things for the better in Charlotte.

"Sports have a long history of helping to change attitudes around important social issues. We believe holding our All-Star activities in Charlotte will be a powerful way for the NBA to continue this tradition."

They're taking a victory in a small battle and giving up on the rest of the war, it seems. Not having the games there was about more than just people being treated with equality at the event itself...it was about equality in the whole state. But now that they think they can regulate the venues, so I guess "we're done here." Damn shame....or am I being too harsh?

This makes me grumpy.
