The thread that teaches me theres a ton of gaffers at my college and a ton up in the north shore by where I live at home >_<

Edit: you'll never find me.

NWI checking in. My kids' school was cancelled this morning so I called off work and stayed home with them. Glad I did; it's pretty ugly out there.

Snowed a decent amount here in Chicago, but nothing's sticking. Kind of slippery, but not really that bad otherwise. The wind isn't fun, though. At least it's not 60 mph like it was last Friday.

Yeah, I say UIUC normally, just UoIL in general online since most people don't recognize UIUC.

For what it's worth, here at UIC, a lot of people refer to UIUC as just U of I.

About an hour south of the city, we've got barely anything. My dad works near Indiana and they got about a foot of snow lol. Stay safe, guys.

The storm seemed to be in Champaign and north up to Chicago mainly, but caused chaos for BloNo with some stronger bands. The wind was all over midstate though, fun commute to school for me today

Total joke. Typical hype and then jack squat on the ground. In West Rogers Park and we might have an inch. MIGHT. Nice work, Tom Skilling.

Well this is an impromptu Champaign-GAF meetup so I suppose I'll pop my head in too.

Poor bastards in one of my classes have a midterm exam tonight (I took it earlier this week, lucky me). Professor emailed an hour ago telling people who have to drive to campus to just stay home and he'll figure something out.

The snowfall doesn't actually seem that bad though. Still wouldn't wanna be outside.

Crazy that you Chicago people didn't really get it. We got it pretty good in Champaign:

Not the biggest accumulation ever, but it was fucking nasty this afternoon when the wind was really going. Electricity was flickering off all day. Super fucking annoying. Ton of people ditched their cars on the interstate as well.

That's it? That's nothing. You want to see a snowstorm in Champaign (a.k.a. I found my old pics)

You said that was 06/07? Was it soon after the original Gears of War came out? I remember I was delivering pizzas in Mattoon then and we got hit by a massive storm. We wound up being closed for the day 'cause it was so terrible, a rare thing for Papa Johns. I braved the weather to drive to a co-workers house and we finished Gears.

I just checked the date on the pics. Valentine's Day 2007.

A quote from the Wikipedia page:

Twelve to sixteen inches (300–410 mm) of snowfall and blizzard conditions in central Illinois canceled classes at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for two days, the first time classes had been canceled since 1979.

And a few more pics:

We lost power down here in Morocco, Indiana for eight hours, thankfully we have a generator to keep the heat going. It's weird seeing Whiting and Hammond being mentioned on GAF, lived in Whiting as a kid then later Hammond for 20+ years.

In that 06/07 blizzard in champaign, four friends of mine sledded back a keg 4 blocks from the Piccadilly on 1st Street

Good times.

I live in Hobart, Indiana. Stayed home from work today. South Shore trains were off line today as well and I wasn't driving.

It went from cloudy

To blizzard

To bright and clear and sunny

To light snow

To sun

In the span of about 40 minutes

Yeah. In northern IL it's been snowing like crazy, clearing up, melting, snowing like crazy.

I'm glad it's melting off because it would be a mess out there otherwise.
