Chinese and Indian characters in RPG's

I don't think there are enough Chinese or Indian characters in RPG's, even though the Chinese and Indian populace account for half the population in the world. Jade Empire is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done! I refuse to buy any more RPG's until they rectify this.

Agree? Disagree? What are your thoughts in this matter? If you were to make an RPG with either Chinese or Indian characters, what kind of RPG would you make?

You complain, then you mention Jade Empire. I think everything is just fine. No one is being intentionally discriminated against.

How many of the Chinese and Indian populations actually play games compared to the Western parts of the world though?

YellowAce brings up an excellent point. I think there need to be more Bollywood RPGs. They can have a development budget of $250,000 and be 200 hours long. Your party will have 35 characters. Other party members will be controlled by real Indian people, because it's less expensive to outsource their actions than to program them AI. Also: lots and lots of singing.

Chun Li is Chinese, and so is almost everybody in a Koei game.

As far as Indians go... isn't there Apu from The Simpsons games? :P

God i hate Positive discrimination.

Just let Game/movie/anything makers make the games they want, with what fits, don't try and force them to diversify characters for the sake of political correctness.

I hereby declare that the next two Japanese RPGs that do not feature a Chinese, Indian or Chindian character will automatically be slapped with a 5 at IGN. Shadow Hearts and Grandia III, you have been warned!

I think that one of the DS surgery games should have the main character changed in the American version to be Indian. Everyone knows that Indians make good doctors.

Would it cost me less to outsource my game playing to Indians or the Chinese?

I'd have a lot more free time then, that's for sure. :lol

There's not enough BLACK people in RPG.

But black people don't play RPGs...that's why we have the gritty urban genre. Black people can "play the role" of 50 Cent.

However, lots of Indians and Chinese people play RPGs. So they need more representation in the genre. Let's stay focused on the topic at hand!

Well I did say RPG's. Shitty fighting and strategy games don't count!

I want a game like Dynasty Warriors where all the people are British and speak with different accents. They could call it Pub Warriors, and as a distinguished gentleman, you have to roll your sleeves up and deal with thousands of leary pub-goers to get your pint. They could do this for different regions and incorporate different accents and fighting styles. I think it would be really rather spiffing myself. Fuck those Chinese rice farmers :D

I represent Sweden and demand more Swedes in games. We are few, but that's what makes us so special. Since there aren't many of us, it makes us more exclusive thus more valuable and fascinating, like diamonds! Yes!!!! Sales will fly sky-high with diamond Swedes!!!!

Yeah, and why do you have an underscore in your name?

I have an underscore in my name because I didn't realize a period and a space were valid. Most sites don't allow that.

I approve of all the chiding you are getting too. :D

I thought it was all about gameplay?

Apparently not.

You were wrong, YellowAce... there is a game with Indians... although not an RPG:

"Road to India immediately grabs the player with an excellent opening as a bomb planted in a New Delhi marketplace serves as a cover to allow an underground cult to kidnap a popular Indian actress. We then watch as Fred, an American college student, bids farewell to his Indian fiancee, who is returning to India to visit her family. The student soon receives a "Dear Sahib" letter from his fiancee and, unaware that she is now involved with a cult, takes to the friendly skies to confront his true love face-to-face. As with the actress, an ancient cannibalistic sect that worships the goddess Kali has abducted the woman in preparation of offering her as a human sacrifice. ..."

But even this game has Fred as its main character instead of Phanishwar.

Capcom does not discriminate.

You would think with all the programmers in India & China we would start to see some gaming software coming out of those countries.
