serious question: why are large cities never affected? do all the tall buildings mess with the wind enough that they can't form or be sustained?
Cities/downtown areas take up a pretty damn small percentage of the land.

Houston has been pretty quiet so far...always have been an insomniac on Christmas eve...but this is just making me a little anxious.
We've had a little bit of a drizzle, but thats about it.
Just rain and some occasional thunder so far in central Alabama.
South LA, South MS, and Central and South AL are all 8. This is the highest I've ever seen a TOR:CON.
Check out Tornado Glory if you haven't seen it. It was Reed and Joel's first documentary when they were both students at the University of Oklahoma and I was able to attend the premiere when I was in guerrilla film-making. It has some gnarly footage.
Hope you guys stay safe. I'm sure the snow we are expecting in Oklahoma is going to cause major issues albeit not as scary or immediately life threatening.
I believe back in the spring, they had it at 9 for a couple places.

There were two tornadoes reported in Houston earlier today, but yeah, the severe threat is pretty much over for Texas, save for the extreme eastern portion. It's mainly LA/MS/AL that's in danger now.
Yeah seems like its going to get pretty bad out there in a little. Had no idea about the two tornadoes reported...did they actually touch down?
A whole bunch of new tornado warnings have been issued in east Louisiana and west Mississippi.
Tornado warning for Rapides Parish has been extended until 1:15 PM CST.

The weather outside is ominous right now. Shits scary, man. I don't like thunder.
Good luck everyone. How common are basements where you guys are? I know some areas they're quite rare.
Basements aren't really an option in Louisiana, with the low lying areas that are subject to flooding.Good luck everyone. How common are basements where you guys are? I know some areas they're quite rare.
