Christmas gaming of the Past: 1992, 93, 94...

Ok, this to me has to be one of the BEST Christmas's in gaming ever! The Christmas of 1992 brought so many options to the table it wasn't even funny! The big Gaming gifts that year were:

Sega_CD_Console.gif
Sega CD (Just released)

turboduo.jpg
Nec Turbo Duo (also just released)

Snes_-_Super_Star_Wars_MINT.jpg
Super Star Wars for the SNES

boite_mariopaint.gif
Super Mario Paint

sonic2.jpg
Sonic 2

119272.jpg
Streets of Rage 2

and a few other pretty high profile games...

The fact that there were two pretty awesome pieces of hardware (for their time) released in the same year along with the godly Super Starwars was enough to drive a kid insane, and their parents too.

This for me was a great year, we couldn't decide which system to get the Sega CD or Turbo Duo. We ended up getting the Genesis and Sega CD, also Super Starwars and Mario Paint. It was the most insane gaming Christmas ever!!! What about for you, different year???

I almost certainly agree with this, although 2000 was a tough year as well.

As for some other 1992 trivia: Did you know that Tails' full name was derived from "Miles per hour"? It took me 12 years and Mr. Naka himself to realize that.

Mario looks like he got jizz shot in his eye on that Mario Paint boxart.

This X-mas completely demolishes everything. Lots of quality games.. Lots of empty wallets.

I remember the xmas i got my SegaCD. It didn't work! My father took it apart (rather than returning it) and fixed it. The ribbon cable to the cd drive came loose somehow. Couldn't return it since I had to order it (the sega cd wasn't released in canada at the time). Good times when I had it fixed tho, I was blown away by the cd music. Too bad most games released for the sega cd were absolute shit.

I didn't know that, it is a good piece of trivia!

This Christmas has a HUGE software lineup but it isnt really going anywhere new, it doesn't feel all cool and fresh like it seemed in 92. I mean it was nuts playing games off of CD's and the sound was amazing (parents would not spend almost $500 for a TG-16 and TG-CD). Regardless of that, watching FMV games at first was REALLY cool, REALLY!!!

I do agree with you though that this year is nuts on the wallet!!!

Okay, so systems released near christmas fail, but games are awesome.

The systems he showed sucked.

And system launches typically don't have very many fun games to go with it. I prefer playing a variety of awesome games as opposed to playing one 'killer-app' over and over on a system I just spent 300 dollars on...

That's why I said this X-mas demolishes everything. Never a dull moment. Yep, games are awesome. The system is just there to play them...

In your opinion, I loved the sega CD and Turbo Duo, infact the Duo is probably my favorite system of all time! It had some great games, how many systems do you know has games that are about 12 years old and go for 3 times as much now as tehy were when they were released. I can only think of one, the Neo Geo! Also, the sega CD had some really FUN games on it, they may not be the best compared to things today, but they didn't suck! It was an RPG gamers heaven!

RPG heaven? Weren't there only a few rpgs released for the Sega CD? Most games released in the US for the Sega CD were all those shitty FMV games or "enhanced" ports of genesis games.

More than I remember. I missed on a lot (due to games not being available to purchase around here). Final Fight was great on the Sega CD was great (awesome music), but it was not arcade perfect. Graphics were a bit off due to graphical limitations of the genesis. SNES was closer graphically, but it was missing levels and Guy.

Yeah, but the SNES game was only single player where as the Sega CD was two at the same time. You are correct the music in it was awesome! Yeah I hear you, I forgot you live in Canada correct?

Yeah, I live in Canada (in a small town). Life as a gamer was harsh back then in my area. I had to order for games to get anything new. Didn't get a steady supply of new games here till walmart came to my town (horrible I know). Just recently got an EB games near here too, so things are even better now.

Thats good to hear! I know, its hard for me to remember gaming without Ebay, and a nearby Ebworld. Since I like more niche stuff though, I can't imagine it without ebay!

I agree about Mario Paint being on the DS, but the ned to port Mario Paint 64 with the 3D stuff also!

Well, Saturn is only 10 years old, but a lot of the best games sell at exorbitant prices... You'll get no argument from me that the Duo kicks ass, I managed to finally get this system early in the year.
