I'm looking to get a new television (nothing fancy, so please don't fill the thread with suggestions on 60" Plasmas), but I'm undecided as to when I should buy it. I would think stores would have better deals after the holidays so as to clear out unsold stock, but then I might have much less of a selection. Pre-holiday shopping might result in better selection, but higher prices.

Experienced shoppers: which do you think is the better choice?

(Note: Online shopping is not included in this, since the large shipping costs of a TV would result in me having to buy a lower quality set in order to make my budget).
