Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey - July 2026

"Nolan has assembled an all-star lineup of actors befitting of the epic tale: Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron are set to star."

Incredible group of actors. This is going to be epic.

I'm as sick of the shitty teenager superhero/blockbuster/whatever-the-fuck movies as anyone, but look up the seriesThe Crowded Room with Tom Holland. The guy can act, period.

He's a really natural actor in How I Live Now. I think he's a very good actor, but might work best in indie movies.

The "new IMAX technology" is likely the new 15/70 film cameras finally being developed. Could mean much more of the movie being filmed in IMAX 15/70. The really old cameras they've been using are extremely loud and bulky; meaning quiet scenes are extremely difficult, as a are scenes in enclosed spaces.

Always excited for a new Nolan project but fuck me, Zendaya has absolutely no charisma whatsoever imo. Hopefully Nolan can at least make her watchable.

Probably Anne Hathaway. She looks good for her age and Hollywood magic can do the rest. Like with Emily Blunt in Oppenheimer.
Did you liked the old tv movies? the cast had a lot of italians, i think the whole production was semi-italian.
edit: nope, full american production, it looked too good to be italian :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Armand assante was a great odysseus imo.

Nope, haven't seen it yet but it looks good, solid cast.

Why do they keep on insisting that Zendaya is a thing?

Sydney Sweeney is here now. Any film without her spectacular cans is doing itself a disservice

I hope we're past the 2000s where all the mythology and sword and sandal adaptations were cynical modernist takes with all the heroes being snarky atheists.

We need anthropomorphic Greek gods. A proper, sincere epic.

Tom Holland is definitely getting cucked. I don't know who he's gonna play but he looks like a even wussier Paris than the lotr elf.

The Ralph fiennes version looks good. In theaters now. Kinda like the Truman capote films that came out back to.back

I haven't read The Odyssey, so I can't comment on the casting choices in that regard. However, I believe all the actors are talented. I've only seen Zendaya in a few films, but her performance in the first season of Euphoria is exceptional. Tom is probably my least favourite actor on this list, while Lupita is undoubtedly creme de la creme.

Remember the nbc version of the odyssey? I think we're around the same age; we read an abridged version of the odyssey my freshman year and the TV production came out that spring.

Vanessa Williams as the lotus eater chick. Yes please.

She's really good in Challengers too.

I watched a video the other day with Villeneuve and Guadagnino that's part of Variety's Directors on Directors series. They both talked about enjoying working with her. So that's saying something if two of the best directors around at the moment feel that way.

Anyone seen this? Apparently came out two weeks ago, haven't heard anything about it.

It's called "The Return", and it's got enough screentime for a feature length film? Pass, I'm not watching a Karen meltdown period, let alone one that goes on for 90 minutes or more.

"I DON'T CARE IF IT'S YOUR DAMN POLICY TO REQUIRE A RECEIPT! GET YOUR MANAGER, MR. POSEIDON, DOWN HERE NOW!"

I dont understand the zendaya hate. ive been a fan of her since Euphoria. she's amazing in it.

Way more talented than Tom Holland.

I think she might be playing Athena though.

I mean, didn't we already have a new Odysseus/Ulysses movie ?

(Diversity in ancient Greece, yas !)

Maybe Nolan's will be more about his homecoming journey so we'll have Kirke, Polyphemus, Scylla and Charybdis setpieces/scenes ? 🤔

PS: I'll always like the straight to TV Armand Assante one !

OMG YES!!!!!!!!

The Odyssey is my favorite story ever told. I really hope it has the Gods. The Gods are really important in this story.

Has Nolan done "fantasy" yet?

I watch the Armand Assante adaptation all the time. I own it on Prime. They did the story justice, imo. And for a made for tv special, it's top tier.

Sorry folks for the three posts in a row. I just really love this story.

Very excited about it. Even more unexcited about the cast after knowing it's The Odyssey. The cast should be a lot more rugged, with unique face features and different builds.

I can see this as a "realistic" version. So probably just superstition instead of fantasy on board the ship.

My problem with her is she doesn't bring an adult presence in her roles.Same with Holland, they don't look like capable adults and it always ends up feeling like dress up.

I enjoyed it a lot, when it came out. One of my classes had some extra credit tied to watching it and writing a paper.

I thought she was snarky (a form of charisma) here:

Overall, she seems like a nice & introverted girl. Nothing against her
