Church cancels man's funeral because his obit mentioned he was gay. (G/A/F?)

The homosexuality in regards to the church issue is always one I think is difficult. Jesus, within the Bible, doesn't comment about it, but the Bible does condemn homosexuality. If the specific church wishes to ban religious events centered on homosexuals as they see it as at odds with the teachings of the Bible, they should be allowed to do so. However, cancelling it literally the day before is an inhuman response in the face of the family's grief. Who knows though, it could even be a business related decision. If the church regulars would stop attending due to the funeral, it's a difficult but practical decision, if not still a monstrous one.

Do you know what the Bible condemns A WHOLE LOT MORE than homosexuality?

Divorce.

Maybe this church should refuse to bury a divorced person.

"I'm not trying to condemn anyone's lifestyle, but at the same time, I am a man of God, and I have to stand up for my principles."

Then your God is a dink.

Clearly the christian thing to do.

This pic should be everywhere, for religious Christians to get it.

What about all the other sinners? Why the focus on gays only?

Honestly, they should've been upfront about the diseased person being gay, it is well known that most Christians are not o.k with the gay life style, it was only logical that they would flip out and cancel.

Yeah, it's the family's fault. It was the only logical response, after all.

They were, the family never hid it from them. Regardless, you shouldn't have to disclose a dead person's sexuality in order to make sure you can have a funeral somewhere.

Actually .. the mother was not from this church (New Hope), only that family members attend it. I don't think the Pastor or any of their members would have known unless disclosed (in this case through the paper).

Certainly unfortunate but not uncommon. Some churches do not approve funerals for suicides. Canceling last minute was a bad thing to do. New Hope should assist in finding a proper funeral home for the funeral.

Maybe they already do, maybe they don't bury people who've worked on Sunday, I really don't know the policies of that specific church.

Seems fair, as long as they also refuse funerals for liars, adulterers, thieves, gluttons, divorcees, tax cheats, bullies, wife beaters, and those motherfucking shellfish eaters.

Or is gay like the Avada Kadavra of Christian sins?

If sin in your life is a prerequisite for having a funeral, NOT. ONE. PERSON. would be granted one.

Wholeheartedly agree. Well said. Unfortunate .. New Hope should have handled this better.

I believe there is a distinct difference between committing a sin and repenting, and just committing a sin. Someone who's in a committed same sex relationship either doesn't consider it a sin, or obviously isn't trying to avoiding the sin in the future, they're not repentant.

Personally I think it's all bullshit, but I don't think a church buying into the bullshit to a stricter degree is somehow worse.

As a somewhat religious person, I often times think the world would be so much better without religion. But no doubt, people would just find some other way to justify their hate.

People in committed heterosexual relationships who aren't married are living in sin. Let's not get it twisted. At least those fundy colleges that omit single moms from enrolling are consistent in their bigotry.

What happened to love the sinner not the sin?

Why has this foundation of Christianity been so completely ignored when it comes to LGBT?

Doing it in the butt is icky.

Edit: and it's the only thing they can actually attach to and attack without looking like complete idiots and hypocrites to most people.

Divorce is 50%+ of the population, they probably all wear different threads, they eat meat, etc, etc, etc.

I'm going to assume you're being sarcastic and humorous - but even so - they realize that not all homosexuals "do it in the butt" right? :(

And even then, many, many heterosexual men love doing it in the butt...

My sister's wedding was just this past weekend. In the church we were in, I noticed on the left side that they had a rainbow pattern painted on these wood planks going down from the ceiling to floor. It put a smile on my face.

The pastor in this article is just a bigoted prick who has no respect for the family/friends of the deceased, or their loss. This is completely unacceptable in every form.

I always try to have a balanced view of this sort of thing, without jumping to conclusions.
But the best I can come up with is that the priest is a spineless, miserable coward who can't put up any amount of resistance to his flock, whereas anyone who would call in - asking for a fucking funeral to be stopped - is an irredeemably worthless scum-sucking cunt.
I would honestly find it easier to forgive a serial murderer than these heartless twats. At least it's likely a murderer has serious mental issues, but someone who got this funeral cancelled is an empty shell of a human, hatred and political agenda replacing any sense of empathy.
This is one of the saddest things I've read in a while.

Just disgusting. Judge not...

I'm sure the people calling to complain are all paragons of virtue and were simply protecting their house of worship.

Hey man, it's harder to ban two people who just happen to have fucked before marriage. You can't look at them and tell they fucked before marriage, gosh! You can't look at two people and tell they've been divorced!

did he just try to shift the blame on to god? if i was a divine being i wouldn't like some randomer putting that kind of shit on me.

My church I attend and trust did the same disrespect to my deceased friend the moment they found out he was not a Christian.

That was the day I left the church. My heart was broken that day and the people I had been led to believe who are loving, had shown me the biggest hate for a fellow dead person. I've decided I'm not going to going to follow in their way of life, what they believed in the Bible, and even what they thought of their God as.

For a religion that's preaching Love, that was one thing I just cannot accept about their teachings.

No, see, because God is perfect, infallible and omnipotent anything that God supports or condemns is unquestionably correct.
