So initial thoughts from ps5 pro version on expert:
-Game is pretty fucking ugly but has great art direction. Is this a UE4 game? Performance mode is fairly blurry accept character models.
-Horrible lip sync in many instances.
-Run animation bugs out and jerks.
-Lost a lot of frames in performance mode during on cut scene at the start where nothing that impressive was happening on screen at that time and it stayed that way for 10+ seconds.

-Voice acting is great.
-Combat is challenging and fun.
-OST slaps.

Man, fuck Amazon. This is the third item I've pre ordered recently that I just don't receive on release day. Shipping now says June 6th and all stores are sold out.
Yup I'm in the same boat. Canceled my Amazon order and am going to pick it up digital so I don't have to wait. Fuckers

Nah it's ue5 garbage with a tech stack from something like early PS4 era. Game barely have any PBR materials in it, what else to say here

Lol anyone who thought otherwise was taking a shit load of drugs.
Not me, I'm drug free. I just know what a good game looks like.

I think this is going to review really well. Provided it is stable and runs well, and has a moderately compelling story for an RPG, I'm anticipating 90+.

Not that reviews mean much anyway, I've already got my pre-order.

Edit: Oh I think I miss read your post. Yeah, reviews help sales I guess.

I predicted 90+ as well 😁

Yeah I meant about reviews. Positive reviews clearly affect sales there's a couple of studies that already back this up.

People will just cherry pick individual games to try and prove otherwise.

This game has some technical flaws. But really: it does things I miss in gaming for ages. its a total win.

Like what?
The only thing that i notice is the minor traversal stutter or shader comp on battle start for new enemies i think.
Otherwise, at least for me, there are no technical problems, game is super polished.

PS: i got everything on max except shadows and shaders set to high, which gives a boost of ~20 FPS for me with almost no visible difference while playing.

Fwiw, I once heard Mat Piscatela say that reviews do affect sales, when reviews are 90+. However, they don't affect sales much at lower levels. (Although I suspect they might affect sales when reviews are particularly bad.)

So why does a potential GOTY candidate not have an OT?
It certainly does :)

Wow. This game came out of fucking nowhere and within a week has become one of my favorite games of all time. So, let me get this straight:

+ A modern take on the single-player JRPG
+ Incredible graphics and art direction
+ Fantastic voice acting with virtually no jrpg cringe
+ Beautiful locales to explore
+ Fun, challenging turn-based combat with just enough QTEs to make it extra awesome
+ No MTX bullshit
+ $50 to buy / free on Gamepass
+ More AAA than AAA

Admittedly, I haven't beaten the game yet, so I can't speak to how/if it'll stick the landing, but I have faith, because the first 10 hours have been an absolute, unexpected, and welcomed delight.

I've read that the game takes 40 hours average to beat. Is it safe to say its on the shorter side?
I mean thats good i don't wanna every game to be 100+ hours.

I'm about to start this game, is there anything i should know before playing?
Are we supposed to tell you the ending? Just play the fucking game lol.
Don't get discouraged if menus seem like a lot at first. You get more skills/pictos and get to really customize your characters

It's fun and story paced great but stick with it all the way through. Story is best with fewer interruptions and its only about 30 hours, which is actually very short for RPGs like this.

Don't get discouraged if you suck at parrying, I did and you can get by with dodging mostly and if you land perfect dodges, you know you can parry that attack. You can also make some awesome defensive/tanky builds.

Don't be afraid to experiment with pictos/luminas/builds. I often got my ass beat by bosses and then went into character builds and arranged things to suit the boss I was fighting and it helped immensely.

Git gud

Expert is the way

Be a parry god

Learn every picto you come across

At some point you ll want to use the redhair girl to earn some great weapon.

Have fun been killed.

Couldnt get past the intro and had to get a refund. The whole Euro/French vibe is just way too strong for my liking no offense. I'm sure it's a wonderful game.

I mean it was pretty obvious from the trailers, also I just find it very weird complain....Its made by french devs so it gonna feel like french made game same way Japanese game is gonna feel like surprise, surprise Japanese made game.

To be fair, I'm about 13 hours in, just completed Act 1 about a week ago and haven't gone back to it since.

The positives? I can appreciate the beautifully designed environments, the story, the OST and some of the characters, but there's very little about the combat system that makes me want to keep playing. You figure it out within the first hour and it gets incredibly monotonous very quickly, especially as someone that's been playing turn-based games for the last 30 years. On the upside, at least you can choose to avoid combat in a lot of scenarios and aren't forced into them.

Might be a hot-take, but this essentially has the tedious corridor linearity of Final Fantasy XIII with an old 90s Squaresoft FF7/8/9-style map thrown in to navigate between those linear areas. One thing that really annoyed me about Final Fantasy XVI was the stop/start nature of the game every 10-15 minutes to accommodate yet another cut-scene and break-up any momentum. This game also has it in spades.

From a technical POV, it has that age old Unreal Engine problem of draw-distance pop-in. Otherwise it runs pretty well.

I'll probably go back to it at some point to finish it off, but so far it's a 7/10.

? The cutscenes really aren't that much at all. Less than half as long of ff16.
