Nice for the families, will be interesting to hear if the bodies have not decomposed

The bodies of two American climbers have been found in a glacier in the Himalayas, 16 years after they were killed by a huge avalanche.
World-renowned mountaineer Alex Lowe had been climbing the 8,013m (26,290ft) Shishapangma peak in Tibet in October 1999 with cameraman David Bridges when they were hit.
They were found by two climbers last week, still trapped in the ice.
Mr Lowe's wife, Jennifer Lowe-Anker, said they had been "frozen in time".

The couple were in Nepal with their charity last week when they received a call from climbers David Goettler and Ueli Steck, saying they had found two bodies "still encased in blue ice but beginning to emerge from the glacier", said Mrs Lowe-Anker.
They described the clothing and equipment to Mr Anker, who said it was "undoubtedly" the missing pair, said the charity's statement.

The bodies are now expected to be recovered from the mountain.
Mr Anker said the discovery "brings closure and relief for me and Jenni and for our family".
Mrs Lowe-Anker said she and her husband and sons with Mr Lowe would now travel to Shishapangma, saying: "It is to put Alex to rest."

I am happy there is closure for the families, but recovering the bodies seems like a senseless decision. It will risk way more lives to brig them down.

Morbidly I'm really interested in seeing how well the ice has kept them, would be creepy if they are frozen in ice and haven't aged a day.

Glad the families have found peace

What closure could it bring? That they died from frostbite or suffocation instead of bleeding out from a compound fracture? Seems like a weird word to use. Surely nobody believed that they could still be alive?

Hope is a real and powerful thing. Crazier things have happened in this universe. You can just never be absolutely sure if you're a grieving family member.

Think I saw a documentary of the footage of these guys before they died.
Dont remember the name though. Or if I confused climbers.

Still, glad they found them.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Reminds me of all the bodies just left up on Everest.
I dunno what'll scare me shitless more - climbing the mountain or passing by all the corpses along the way

It's climbing the mountain

Why not? What if someone found one of them without any identification and they were in a coma or something? Or they had brain damage and couldn't remember their name? These are the kind of things people think about when a loved one is missing.

Are these the ice climbers that went missing in Smash??

Can I get more info of this?

Mt. Everest has around 200 dead bodies on the mountain. It is nearly impossible for recovery of a body off the mountain. The “death zone” is 26,000 feet. The air there is so thin. Lack of oxygen leaves climber bewildered and weak and can cause them to pass out and get frostbite. Many people lose their lives here. The bodies are left the same as how they died and have even become landmarks for other travelers.

Thanks, what a dangerous place that is, people feel like they were stuck in time (the woman sleeping is terryfying)

Want to climb it some time

Often times simply burying/cremating someone is the closure that some people need emotionally.
Same thing with bodies of war casualties recovered years or even decades later. For members of the family and friends, it's a means to say their goodbyes beyond just knowing someone they love is out there dead.
