CM Punk tells all about walking out of WWE (podcast)

Yeah, I have no idea. It must feel like a prison to most of them.

I doubt it- most of them aren't main eventers. For the midcarders it's probably not as bad.

If Punk really wanted to try screwing with Vince he should try to start his own indy- I think he'd be good at running a company if he had any business sense, but I think Punk has enough business sense (his investing skills are as good as JBL's/Alex Wright's) not to do that. Risking it all for revenge is a Vince thing.

That table spot Punk mentions when he had to work with Ryback the second time;

I really want to listen to the rest of this but I am only get 49 minutes worth from both links. :(

If someone can provide a mirror download for the full version of the podcast that would be superb.

Just finished listening, damn!

I stopped watching WWE before Punk came in and never really watched much of his stuff during his time there except for the odd match I caught or the odd promo (Pipe bomb etc.) that I heard about. He always seemed like a prick in real life from what you read/hear but after listening to it I have a new found respect for Punk and can really appreciate all the horrible stuff he went through. He actually reminds me of me, someone who wont take shit lying down like most people and as such gets labelled a trouble maker etc. when all he is doing is sticking up for whats right.

Seriously though, part of me isn’t even surprised by it but the WWE stuff is some of the most shady shit I have ever heard of when it comes to a business treating its employees badly. The whole Staph infection story is damn scary, but then the clear bias from the doctors who seem to only be concerned with getting performers out on camera is just down right criminal.

I just wonder if anything will happen about this stuff, I mean the cynical part of me says nothing will change but after hearing accusations like that someone needs to look into WWE and shine a light on how horrible they are as a company.

Nothing will change, except WWE will continue to diminish and die off slowly as they can't generate new stars fast enough and ruin the ones they luck into.

I kinda hope this would of come out nearer the time there was gonna be a show/ppv in Chicago and this interview really blows up.

CM Punk chants none stop.

One can only dream.

Yeah sadly I can see that being the case, but I suppose the rate their going they will only be around a few years more before imploding completely.

from the sounds of it Vince has a john cena fetish and new stars will be fed to him as long as he decideds to eat there..it's strange but the best thing for WWE would be if he left and decided to become a movie star but he has it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to good to ever leave that godlike position.

Man, this is some shady fucking shit. From what was reported about why he left showed off the issue of politics in the company.

A shame it goes much deeper than that regarding medical care. The more I hear about how Punk and Del Rio were treated as they left, the more I really dislike the company.

I'm happy WWE is bleeding money right now.

Honestly I doubt it. There were plenty of times it could have happened in the 90's when there was actual competition but they were able to hold on. Wrestling has a pretty devoted fanbase in the U.S. and there are really no alternatives anymore.

Vince McMahon is supposed to be recording a podcast with Stone Cold Steve Austin next week and it's supposed to air live on the WWE Network. No idea what to expect from that now we have this elephant in the room.

I love the story about Harley Race's cheques.

But yeah, that staph infection + the way they really approach concussions - it doesn't surprise me the way they treat their talent.

There really needs to be some kind of union.

Vince most likely has a clause for Austin to not talk about Punk. As much as he would want to I feel like he won't be discussed. Especially on the Network they won't have Vince look bad.

Considering it's airing their Network, couldn't they have already planned out what can and can't be said on that podcast?

I don't get how Vince got away with telling investors that Punk was on a sabbatical. Isn't lying on an investors call like that a big deal?

The stuff about the doctors incompetence/refusal to treat issues is crazy.

Shame we probably won't ever see Punk back in wrestling ever again. I hope in the upcoming Q&A episode there's a question asking if he would ever appear anywhere else.

It's shocking to see how they mistreat their performers! Especially with how the WWE talks about spending so much money on healthcare for them and such..

Really good listen. Hearing about stuff like this, as well as the Del Rio stuff, makes me feel good about no longer watching the WWE.

The stuff about Rusev was pretty funny. Guy is just a big teddy bear.

After this interview, I feel ashamed as a fan of WWE. This stuff is fucking unbelievable. I've always known the company has some major problems, but the things Punk described are absolutely disgusting. Fuck. Wrestlers dying off the way they do suddenly makes a lot more sense.

I do feel a little bad for Ryback being nuked in this interview. Sounds like the dude straight up didn't know how to work in the ring, thus causing injuries to Punk. Luckily it would appear he's gotten his shit together in the ring since then. By all other accounts from other people Ryback is a nice guy. Sounds like he got pushed too early too fast which is no surprise.

Man, he really shits all over Ryback in this interview.

Good.
I'm just getting to this part now.
Fuck you Ryan Reeves!

(Yeah, he was pushed way too soon... par for the course over there.)

The lesson is to stop being a fan of the WWE. Until Vince dies or they go bankrupt.
Plenty of other fish in the sea no matter how much the WWE tries to convince you they're the only game in town that matters.

Incredible story. Just... incredible. I hope any hater listens to this and re-evaluates their thoughts on the whole thing.

Vince passing away or stepping down isn't going to magically turn that company into what it should be. Punk's own words: "It'll just get taken over by his idiotic daughter and his doofus son-in-law".

Triple H isn't the saviour.

But NXT is so good :(

I've always known that as long as Vince is breathing, it will be the same old shit for much of the WWE.

Also kind of funny to hear just how true it is that HHH always puts his buddies first. I'll take him over Vince though a million times over. He's at least cognisant of the current wrestling trends.

If they get enough bad press shit will change. Triple HHH isn't stupid. Vince needs to go though.

He has to be better than Vince.

Steph seems pretty awful though. She seems like she's probably behind some of the most eye rolling shit ("celebrity" guest hosts for RAW, the Susan G. Komen partnership, etc). She comes off as nothing but a corporate shill.

Shit like this is why I will never again watch WWE. Such a horseshit company that gets away with whatever it wants, because it's top stars would rather get paid then get buried by the company lawyers.

No, Triple H isn't the savior. But it'll be a shit ton better than it is now.

Which is unwatchable.
At least NXT is watchable.

Even Vince dying won't repair the toxic workplace atmosphere overnight. But it's a good place to start. Dude's the absolute worst thing for his product and doesn't realize it.
He's been completely out of touch with his audience for the past decade or so.
Just keeps getting propped up and humored by his family and his employees despite being completely deluded.

Where are these folks going to go? Mexico, TNA, ROH- you get paid peanuts.
Japan pays well, but only takes certain individuals.

I think New Japan would take him. There is room for another Gajin at the top of the card.

I'm shocked, but not shocked. We all know it's a shady company when it comes to health, I just thought after the number of deaths through the early aughts, they started to turn the page.

The way they treated Punk, and I believe Bryan the same way, is that Vince/HHH never could deal with Punk being their top guy, despite doing everything they could until they had no choice but to push him.

Can't blame Punk for leaving. It's just a shame that there's no true competition to go to.

If I had to guess (And from stories etc.) I would bet HHH is almost just as bad as Vince and the only thing holding him back is the fact Vince is still around and in charge. In comparison to Vince I am sure Paul is more in touch with the audience and what would work for business in this day and age (Hard not to be) but from listening to this, I don’t think it would mean much in the long run. I bet as soon as HHH is in charge (Once Vince pegs it of course) he will basically turn into Vince – doing everything he can for what is ‘good for business’ while still playing to his own ego and getting himself over like the examples given by Punk (HHH going over Punk and going back into retirement, stealing Punks idea about the boxing/MMA entrance).

I think the only thing that will happen to WWE is going bust at some point within the next decade. This might seem silly but WWE have never really been in the situation they are now, they might not have competition but:

Viewers are the lowest for years (Last I read) and look to be dropping
PPV buys are ruined because of the switch to the Network.
The Network isn’t doing great itself
‘Try’ as they might, they still rely on a few guys to carry the show instead of building (And sticking with) a wide range of people you can build on and rely on to carry any position. Once these big guys go, who is going to be the person/people drawing fans in?
After years of failed side businesses, failed Governor Attempts, dwindling fan base etc. their finances aren’t great (I think I read, don’t they only have something silly like $12m in cash reserves?) Not great for a company so big and in such troubled times

WWE might be huge but with all that going against them, all it would take is some bad luck (Meaning the culmination of years of bad decisions) and a few things to mess up at the same time for it to overwhelm them. If that day comes, is Vince going to swallow his pride and scale back the company to survive or is he going to go for broke and ruin his company? I know what I would more likely put my money on.

The absolute most important thing any fan of giving the WWE some actual competition can do is to pay money for the Global Force Wrestling / NJPW event commentated by Jim Ross on January 4th.

Catching one of the ROH/NJPW live events in North America next year can't hurt, either.

Hell, if you love anyone that works for WWE as a fan, you should be throwing as much money to those other companies as possible so they don't feel trapped and forced to shorten their lifespans and brutalize themselves just for the possibility of getting to lose to an over-the-hill part-timer at WrestleMania... or, heaven forbid, a vacation.

(Well, except for TNA... the Carters will never use any money you give them responsibly. Might as well light your wallet on fire.)
