ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Earthquakes on the West Coast have prompted fresh speculation about "the big one" -- a quake that could dump a huge section of California into the sea.

Did the person who wrote that not have a brain in their head or something, or have they watched too many TV movies about massive earthquakes?

The thing is, a "huge section of California" wouldn't fall into the sea. If a "big one" hit, the only disaster that would happen along those lines is that LA and San Francisco would be next door neighbors .

Manabyte actually debunking scientifically untenable speculation? What's the world coming to? ;) :D

Ah the beauty of seeing a huge chunk of Cali fall down into the sea.. as TomKat stand upon it.. :lol
Why would they be there when it happens? Who knows, but we can all pray, can't we?

Perhaps. :p I know you'd offer him your testicles in condolence, but they're so small as to be of little value. ;) :D

I came into this thread half-expecting him with preliminary plans for an exodus into Arizona.

If i drown in my sleep you'll know it was either the waterbed or the ocean taking me away. I'm just waiting, it'll happen one day.

Manabyte's a good guy, but some of the stuff he posts about can be a bit outlandish at times. :D

Still, there are worse things than being a conspiracist-- having small balls, for one. ;) Cruel fate, that. :p

Tool wrote a song about how they hoped it would happen:

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

15 million years (and many earthquakes) from now, Los Angeles and San Francisco will be next-door neighbors.
Somebody isn't preserving context. :p

Apparently someone at CNN reads GAF. If you follow the original link...

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Earthquakes on the West Coast have prompted fresh speculation about "the big one" -- a quake that could dump a huge section of California into the sea.

now reads:

Recent earthquake activity in California has prompted fresh speculation about "the big one" -- an enormous quake along California's West Coast.

For all of you that dont believe this stuff about western california being in danger of being swallowed by the sea, this disaster is very true and will probably happen the in the next couple of times the San Andreas fault decides to shake it up big time (magnitude 7 and up).

I dont have any links for all you (not like the internet is a reliable source of information anyways). I am a Earth's Dynamic Systems and Ocenaography student in university.

If you think this is going to literally happen, you need a few more years in school.

If you've taken Geology I find it hard to believe you didn't go over divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundaries. Western California being plunged into the sea would imply the San Andreas is a convergent boundary with the Pacific Plate being subducted into the North American Plate.... which is not the case.

If New Madrid goes kaboom then its buckets for us in the midwest. We are totally unprepared for such a major earthquake.

The Yellowstone Caldera actually has a bigger chance of blowing than the "BIG ONE" hitting.

I had a dream last night that an earthquake caused San Fransisco to start sinking into the ocean and that I had to try to get away.

I was wondering when GAF would pick up on this. 300 quakes in such a short ammount of time is pretty significant.
