CNN vs Al Jazeera

Probably personifies the difference/awareness of the average target audience's world opinion as well. Recently I came across a similar comparison made in the reporting between European and American news outlets of stories that were critical of countries like Israel. Critique in the British press is not hard to find, with some feeling that there is an Anti-Israel sentiment here in the UK and Europe. I never really got this. Then I started to pay attention to how things were reported in the US and there was hardly any of it. Israel just gets more press here, and hence its easier to find a larger ratio of criticism about it than you would in any parts of the world.

Let's combine the two!

TIGER WOODS BLOWN AWAY BY U.S ATTACK HELICOPTER AT MASTERS.

dude, CNN allows me to set up my own account and make one of those hip blogs all the cool kids are talking about.

hey whats this about a leaked vide... IPADZ WTF I NEED ME SOME OF THAT OH TIGER MY BOY WHATS POPPIN HOLY SHIT ALBA WANTS ANOTHER KID HEEEEERRRRRP DWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERP

I struggled to get the point of the comparison at first, presumably because Charlie Brooker has already taught me that the majority of television journalism and reporting is rubbish.

:lol

Edit: The BBC News' website has the Wikileaks story on the front page, but the most space is devoted to UK election news, a story relating to a deceased British solder who fought in Iraq, and finally Tiger Woods.

Website 'shows video of Jessica Alba blowing Tiger at Masters'

Did they edit out the black bangbus that rode up to rescue Alba from his libido?

There were no survivors. Of dignity.

Not to defend CNN, but they do seem to have a broader scope then that front page from Al Jazeera. Sports, Economics, world politics, and entertainment are all included. Al Jazeera is completely regional politics with a mention of the China mining incident. Really taking a snapshot of either site on a particular day is not going to tell you much. Hell if you took a snapshot of the Drudge Report you would get 4 or 5 times the stories on the front page compared to either site, it does not make them more valid or in tune.

Edit: Also if you go to either of those websites right now, they each have literally 50 to 100 stories right there on the frontpage. The particular comparison just seems to be a very TMZ day for CNN, but today that is not the case at all.

I think the decline in quality of CNN's web page is mirrored only by the quality of their on-air programming. The iReporter "Revolution" is a real shame.

CNN is fucking worthless. No surprise here. Maybe if the video were posted in 3D, they might have given it more exposure.

Are you telling me you don't want to know what the facebookers are saying about Iranian revolution?

I don't know what's worse: CNN not reporting this or the fact that Fox News described it as "Video Game" Killings.

Tiger woods is a womanizing sack of shit. He needs to stop frontin like he's sorry, he's only sorry that he got caught. I could respect him if he would stop frontin, we know who you really are now Tiger.

If you read the FoxNews article, a person is quoted as stating that the apache pilots were treating the situation like a video game where they were just trying to get a high score.
Of course it takes reading articles and not just headlines to pick up these things. They are not blaming video games in the article, just comparing the behavior of the soldiers and the deaths they were creating to that of someone who would kill someone in a videogame without a second thought. If the actual statements made between the different soldiers is true, it actually sounds like people playing Call of Duty online over XBL and not soldiers acting professionally or responsibly.

I like CNN because they seem the least bias of the three major news channels, and their international reporting is well done, but seriously, their domestic obsession with Twitter and shit like that is starting to kill me. Almost unwatchable. Someone earlier mentioned the whole iReport phenomena. What the hell CNN.

Oh ya, and Al Jazeera English has some really hot news anchors.

It's on CNN top story right now.

There's a mission exactly like that in a couple of games. When the guy peeked around the corner and the guy went "he's got an RPG" I thought they have to be shitting me, this is straight from the game, that's the line you hear most.

Oh, and fwiw, Al Jazeera pretty much equals BBC of the past. They hired their journalists and creq. Best channel currently.

I'm not getting anything at all like what the OP has. Video is front and center, with the only other large-size story about rapped miners in West Virginia.

For once, let's leave the needless Fox News bashing out of a thread.

I see something glaringly neglected on the FN page. There is no such thing as 'needless fox news bashing'.

Gee, I can't understand why Al Jazeera would have more news about war than CNN! That just doesn't make sense!

It's needless because it has been played out. Even threads that have nothing to do with Fox have people taking jabs as if it is this novel and amazing insight on the shittiness of Fox News.

That US Army helicopter killing video made me think of COD4. Sinister that IW are bang on in capturing the attitude of the folks operating their instruments of death.
