Cobra Kai Season 4

I managed to go through all 3 seasons despite the cringe, because I have no life. I'm not sure I can take another season. The show was good when it was focused on johnny struggling to get his life back together, and that's it. The high school drama, karate, larusso, all are boring. If this is the final season I might check it out.

You 'll be happy to hear it's been renewed for a 5th season. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Excellent show. All 3 seasons have been great.

Johnny Lawrence is an extremely likeable character. Miguel too.

Larusso's daughter and some of her friends can be a bit cringe sometimes, otherwise the show is great.

The show has had its moments. Not sure why they would agree to another tournament scenario when Kreese and Silver don’t need to win anything. They already have the advantage of owning the Cobra Kai name and having two of the best students. So in theory they would continue rebuilding their brand and recruit more aggressive, athletic students…(Similar to the Original Cobra squad from 84). Miguel and Sam may win the tournament, but they won’t win the 5 vs 1 in the parking lot afterwards 😄. But it’s all in fun so we’ll see where the story takes us.

Couldn’t agree more

the show is too corny. Not sure what people are seeing in it at this point. I loved the first season and I love when the show focuses on Johnny, but everything with Daniel and his family its cringe, as well as the high school drama stuff

But it has its moments, so I kind of hate watched it, with little moments here and there pulling me back in, and also just out of curiosity to see what happens. Either way I’m curious to see how Johnny’s story plays out.

To the people wishing it was less cringe, this show has had that from day one. It doesn’t take itself seriously at all, it’s just meant to be 30 minutes of fun at a time.

If you don’t like it that’s fine, maybe the show isn’t for you.

This looks good but the second time I watched it I didn't know who that character was in some of the shots. Then I'm like Where is Miguel. and then realized Miguel put on some covid weight.

Agreed. I hate the "we have to destroy and close down Cobra Kai for good" attitude. What a shit take. Daniel is lame.

I can live with the cringe but it's how cartoonishly over the top it is that bugs me. The fights at the school and at the LaRusso house were just way too much.

Agreed on the Johnny struggle season being the best. It's been family-fied I think. My daughter and wife got it into for S2/S3 and are looking forward to S4. Me? Not so much but I'll watch along.

I hear you - those scenes are cartoonishly over the top. I guess my expectations aren’t for a complex story that even makes sense.

I like the callbacks to the original movies and basically every scene Johnny is in. It’s funny and has good moments at times and that is enough for me.

They're teenagers, who are almost always cringe.

I’m pretty sure it’s the original actor.

Yep, Terry Silver is younger than Ralph Macchio. Really seemed crazy in Karate Kid 3.

Larusso has always been cringe and unlikable in The Karate Kid, not really any different in Cobra Kai. I love the different perspective on what happened according to Johnny, Daniel was always the bad guy, we were just hearing it from his side.

Not all of them though. Miguel is a really likeable character. Hawk and his nerdy friend are pretty good too.

It's mainly Daniel's daughter who's super cringe. She's not really a bad character either, I'm more or less into all of their drama.

Oh i had no idea. Crazy. Also they basically took this dudes youtube and put it in the show which was in my opinion sort of great. And it was 6 years ago.

Since there's no OT, I guess this thread could serve as that.

No spoiler impressions of season 4.

It was what I expected. Many, MANY cringe moments that made me ask myself why I was listening to this show, and many other moments that I thought were really cool, and reminded me why I like this series. Lots of story elements that I thought were clever and was really surprised by. It ultimately had a satisfying ending. You get the feeling by the end of season 4 that the series is far from over. The relationship between Larusso and Johnny Lawrence was fun to watch. I really like what they did with Tori. Great character development for her and I like the direction she's heading into.

Another year to wait for season 5.

Yeah watched the entire season in one sitting with my kids. It is still the blueprint on how to revive a stone cold dead IP, everything just works, even the cringey stuff. They even dug up stuff that was cut from the original movie - it's that kind of respect for the original material, with heaps of call backs that actually make sense story wise, while telling a whole new story that makes this work. Just a shame we have to wait a whole other year for the next season which apparently is ready to go.

I tried watching the new season but after the first cringe scene I just turned it off, maybe I can get through it another time.

Man the writers of this show know their shit. Only 5 episodes in but boy do they know how to inject you with nastglia. Also their character writing is too notch. I dislikes Karate Kid Part 3 for various reason, and I disliked Terry Silver as a villain because he was one dimensional. But boy this show with their character building, him and kreese in Nam, Silver forced to take over a family business instead of doing what he loved and to also have him drown himself in cocaine to deal with his ptsd in just, wow. Now I look back on part 3 and love Silvers character.

I am not even halfway through the season and so far Kreese and Terry S. seem like the sensible ones compared to the LaRusso’s in particular (clever trick to explain the mono dimensional villain he was in KK3, Cocaine)…

Well, tbh, I felt much less engaged this time around. I think each episode is longer than before (used to be 30 min, now they seem to be going for 45 min or so, if I'm not mistaken) - perhaps that's what's bringing the tension down a bit.

There were some parts that I liked - how multi-dimensional these villain characters are, which kept me on the edge (mostly) when they were together... but things are getting old.. literally & figuratively. Actors themselves are now too old to pass like late 40s... and also main teen protagonists look so old now. (Some of them look like 30 yr old guys playing high school kids)

I do wish they wont prolong the story too long,

I, honestly, thought it was the best season thus far. I liked the hawk redemption arc. Demetri is such a better character now and even the middle school arc wasnt horrible. Except for Anthony's friends. They really did fuck the new kid up and I completely understand why he's so pissed off now even after Anthony tried to apologize.

when I was younger, Ralph Macchio was a crush of mine, legit thought he was like 14 in the movie irl but he was 23 so it ended up being super weird once I found that out later in life, but, now it’s ok cuz I’m old and he’s…older, but, the age gap doesn’t seem as creepy.

Binged season 4 as I binge every season, loved this season, best one for me. Plus, a Rowdy Roddy Piper shout out, he’s my favorite wrestler of all time, I lost my shit.

Binged with my daughter who loves it. Cheese and nostalgia in a b-grade show with a-grade production. Really brought it home and wasn't cliche etc. Solid job and they really worked the material update well in the later episodes of this season.

We need to see him next season.

Yep, he was the only one actually stronger than daniel, he lose the fight because he is an idiot but he was doing the fuck he wanted with daniel until that fucking judo move...

My guess is that Barnes is the dad, it can make for an interesting angle for sure and would make sense to have him team up with Terry again. Season 5 was already confirmed back in August and the last few episodes were being filmed in November, so, now we wait. Great cliffhanger at the end of 4.

I really enjoyed this season. A little cringe here and there actually adds to the show, at least for me. Their character work is really good. I really enjoyed the Kenny sub-plot - the scene in the library with little-boy Larusso was really fun.

Feels like the show is starting to repeat itself, though. I thought Season 4 would've been the last one. I really can't imagine going past Season 5, even if I'm really enjoying it.

Best season since the first for me. Really reeled back the over-the-top stuff, which is funny since they brought back Silver, and a lot of the weaker characters had better showings this time around. Kenny's arc was a bit too quick for me and the season was a little predictable but I think that worked in the season's favor.

I though that they did an excellent job with Silver and his actor nailed it too.

To be fair, they were all stronger than Daniel.

I’m 4 episodes in. The new Kenny character is kinda lame. The kid who gets bullied is a little too cliched to introduce it again, but not a huge deal.

Johnny continues to be the best character. He makes the show honestly. I don’t love any of the kids.

I can tell where this is gonna go though. If they’re already signed on for more seasons, I know there’s no way Miyagi Fang is going to win this tournament, because there would be nowhere to go. I predict they’re going to lose and the final season or seasons is going to be about everyone coming together to defeat them once and for all

It’s why I’ve been so slow finishing it, because I’m 97.4% sure I already know how this season is going to end.
