Cobra Kai Season 5 Trailer - September 9th

Let's go. My daughter and have been watching the hell out of this show. This is how you do a quality series from an existing IP.

It can't come soon enough. I honestly had my doubts when it was first announced but goddamn it's so good.
A true sleeper hit.

Also, is this the final season? If so, I can see a small Hilary Swank cameo at the very end. If not, they could bring in Master Li from the reboot movie and connect him to Terry wanting to expand globally.

Hate to be that guy but...the way they're stretching this whole thing out they'll have to resurrect Mr. Miyagi at a certain point to keep milking the (proverbial) cow.
I enjoyed the first 2 seasons as i'm an 80's kid but 80's nostalgia can only take you so far, cinematography is horrible/super cheap as is the choreography (most actors in the show just can't) and the whole teenage drama/angst is wearing thin.

The only enjoyable part for me are the interactions between the older cast, that's it.

True for quite a bit of what you say but the old dudes sticking it to the trainees and tournament montages are pretty solid too.

If you didn't smile at stingray too I don't know what to tell ya.

I love it, didn't think they'd be able to turn Johnny Lawrence into a likeable character but here we are. Hoping we get a good final season.

I think this is fair criticism. At times for me the show has been kinda cringy, but I like the fan service and the general plot is still solid and keeps me interested.

This is fair but I like it anyway. There is just something wholesome about gangs of kids getting into karate fights in HS lmao.

I agree with everything you said and yet I like the show and am looking forward to the new season.
The acting is bad, the cinematography looks amateurish, there's cringy stuff every 5 minutes and it's full of stuff I hate like teenage drama and nostalgia bait....but I keep watching and enjoying every season. I don't get it man, it's like black magic.

I felt like this watching the Season 4. Perhaps the wait between each season have been so long - and my nostalgia/enthusiasm could only last so long.
Having said so, am looking forward watching the Season 5. Glad at least it's coming in quicker than last break.

Young cast members are growing up way too quickly as well - now some of them look too adult to be in high school.

EDIT: Just watched the trailer - and once again, I'm intrigued/excited. So gullible... ;)

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I resubscribed to Netflix just for season 3 and 4 since it wasn't on YouTube Premium.

Great show and look forward to it this September but I'm unsubscribing to Netflix until Stranger Things season 4.

I think they're aware and this season should be more interesting. Without spoiling, unless you've already seen the trailer, we're finally starting to move past the high school drama(after 4 seasons of their 4 years). One of the more angstier teenage characters has finally found their balance and another one is going on a long journey to find the truth. A third one's arc seems complete. There's maybe only two or three characters(one being more new to the cast) that I can think of who might have unresolved drama going into this season.

I can’t wait for this. No doubt there will be a Mike Barnes cameo. I also love that it seems Chozen is a main character this upcoming season

The writing in this show is heavily underrated, to get this far in continuity and not feel repetitive, given with what little they were drawing from is an amazing feat.

I thought we would see Hilary Swank

That depends on how many more seasons they can squeeze out of this show. From what I've seen in the trailer it doesn't seem like it's the final one but who knows? Maybe they just want everyone to forget that movie.

Update…

Met William Zabka today! My son was so happy. He called my son “Little Johnny” because he has bleach blonde hair. Made his day!

I prefer to keep our faces off the forum but I thought I’d share this at least.

Maybe Zabka wants his face off this forum as well.

Nah they've already hinted it's going to happen. As bad as the movie is, it's still part of the "Miyagi-verse".

Why haven't they had a Miyagi cameo yet? Every two bit extra with half a line from the films has shown up, but not the central Father figure. He could come in with Bruce Lee and straighten these kids out.

How old is your daughter? Mine's 13, and I've been holding back watching this with her because of the language.

10 mate. We're Aussie, my kids are used to swearing and know when/where is appropriate or kid vs adult chatter etc.

I did fast forward one scene in S1 I think it was with a dope smoking pipe etc. Otherwise was good to go for her/us.

Just started S5… so Moguel’s son of Giga chad? Lol

edit: upto Ep7 and calling it a night. So far, I like it. A bit different, but some unexpected cameo and I know Amanda's background a bit.

Enjoying the season so far:

-Bad acting from everyone under the age of 40
-Cheesy writing
-Production quality on par with the American made parts in OG Power Rangers
-A bunch of 60 years old actors that all aged better than 90% of Hollywood for some reason.

Finished the S5. I think & hope next season would be the final season. I'd be happy if this is the end of the series to be honest.
All of their main characters are now resolved except 1 - and there's not much to go on from now on IMO. He is indeed interesting character though...

But this season was all about "coming together" in one way or another - and I liked it. But some, just don't have any fuels to go on with as their characters were resolved in previous seasons.
Like Eli or Demitri. Now even Miguel and Robby don't have much to go on, and same goes to Tory & Sam and all.

My favorite character was actually Terry Silver - and he was really the star of the S5.
The guy, as far as I know hasn't really hit that big at all as an actor, and wasn't in any TV/movies for like a decade - but he fit into the character so well in Cobra Kai, in that 80-90's sense.
Johnny felt little too tamed in this season, and Daniel... well, always that blockhead Daniel San. ;)

But.. I'm not really sure why any of them were not jailed in the end with all that stuff happened...? They are literally local "gangs" in a sense.

I'm retarded?
Oh yeah I binged this saturday. Fucking love it. Terry is the perfect villain, dude has the face of a bond villain. Though I have no idea what else they can do at this point, compete in the global karate championship and thats it I guess.

I felt the same way. They rushed through a few plotlines that could have used more development(Kreese, Terry, Tory, Miguel's dad, and Kenny) and it felt like the story writers were trying to undo almost all of the plot lines set up at the end of the previous season as fast as possible, Miguel and his dad being the biggest example.

It also felt like everyone had to immediately drop everything for the sake of the two main characters Johnny and Larusso's plot with Silva. This was definitely an odd season and sadly even though it had some fun cheesy moments, it felt like they didn't want to bother with developing too many character storylines this time around. So it ended up with great characters from past seasons having nothing to do.

On a side note, was it me or did it feel like the actress for Sam phoned in her performance this time around? It felt like she was rushing through lines and her acting was considerably worse. Maybe she is just not invested in the show anymore or doesn't like the direction. I don't know. The worst thing a viewer wants to see is an actor who looks like they don't want to be there but a check is a check.

Even saying all of this, the overall show still sits at a B- for me and even if it doesn't stick the landing it had been a mostly fun show.
