COD MW2 and MW3 are removed from COD HQ Today

"On July 29 at 9am PT, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will be moved from the main Call of Duty install and become standalone downloads. Beginning tomorrow, MWII or MWIII owners can access them directly after redownloading each title. Legacy content related to MWII and MWIII modes within the main Call of Duty install will be automatically removed on August 7 to free up storage space."

I didn't see this posted anywhere else but this is a great thing IMHO. This change will go live in a little over an house from now.
I have MW2 and originally it was a standalone game but they moved it to COD HQ when that came out. COD HQ is bloated and annoying so I'm really glad to see them moving the title back to being a standalone title.

Do you think there's any chance that they move away from COD HQ entirely and go back to having each game be its own game instead of just DLC for a central title? I'd love to see Black Ops 7 be a standalone title this fall.

Pretty sure this is to as the article states to reduce the size of COD HQ.
Im sure they will keep removing titles as time goes on but COD HQ will be the home of currently supported titles and Warzone.


Im genuinely curious why COD HQ is a thing at all.....couldnt you still integrate stuff from new titles into Warzone without needing to put all the titles in one basically storefront.

It's basically its own storefront. Makes perfect sense. They want you to just load into CoD, socialize in CoD, shop in CoD, play multiple games in CoD, eat sleep and shit CoD.

Because I went back to mw3 and it's annoying to keep on flipping going to black op6 then restart to go mw3


Also that means the next call of duty is going to be modern warfare and they are going to have its own HQ alongside MW 3/2?

MW3 is the best COD's been in ages. Plays great tons of maps as well.
 
How can they remove legacy content, when said content is used in warzone?
Sounds like if you have warzone installed the totoal size won't be that much smaller, which probably also means if you want to keep MWIII separately the overall size could possibly be bigger than what it is now.

Also really annoying they are just like, lol just redownload this 100gb 🤷
 
I initially skipped MW3 (played the beta though) but if it goes on sale now I'll likely grab it.
I like the fact that they included the maps from the original MW2 and the beta was fun. Plus it seems like lots of people enjoyed it.

Had a shakey start but the 12 month support it got was arguably the best they've ever done. Plus they rowed back some of the changes they made in MWII for the better IMO.

There's also an OG playlist that is just the original MW2 maps, which is great because up until a few months ago you just had to play everything.
 
whoever came up with CoD HQ should be tortured for the rest of their lives by sitting them in front of the worst UI imaginable and having to navigate it in specific ways, and each time they don't find the correct menu item in time, they get stabbed in the balls.

Yes, I know they were on GamePass, but I just pointed it out so people would see that they were available both ways and not get confused (GamePass and also free). It was so people could make sure they could claim them for free.

Don't think either of them are free, yes there are two listed entries for "free", but they only have "MWII" or "MWIII" in them, the paid ones also have "content pack 1" in them, content pack 1 is the full game entitlement.
MWII showing up as free is probably because the DMZ mode is free to play, not sure about MWIII, I own both so I can't test it.

Downloading the campaign now, I have been curious about that Galicia (Spain) level for a while.

Okay, you're making me doubt it, because it could be like you say. I've only claimed both games, and in both, the option to choose which content I wanted to download appeared, and everything was available for download. I can't check now because it's late here and I have to get up early tomorrow. If someone checks and the full game isn't free, I'll post it.

Let us know if you can play all the content. There's some uncertainty about whether the "free" download refers to the entire game or just the free-to-play content. 👍

I will, but still; 2 and a half hours left for the download on my SeriesS.
Maybe the paywall is ingame, but so far, as you said, there is options for what to dwnload. By any means it seems the complete package.
I am only interested in the campaign, really.

Just checked on PS5, there is no "FREE" option to buy.

Not really, unless one of those options is "content pack 1", the individual parts for mp/campaign don't have to give you access to the game.
This comes from me buying MWIII, refunding it because I wanted a different edition, but then noticing I kept full access to the game, I thought it was just the refund taking time, but a month later I still had the access; I then disabled content pack 1 right before purchasing it again, and then content pack 1 completely disappeared as an option and the game didn't give me access to anything.

I have my purchased copy of MWIII now installed stand-alone and it also has content pack 1 enabled.
 
Mw2 PS4 version autopops the platinum but the ps5 version doesn't. Either a bug or intentional. It's a quick plat anyway if it's intentional.

Mw3 PS4/5 standalone versions appear to be autopopping without issue.
 
Having that weird 200GB wrapper app for games you need to buy every year separately anyway makes even less sense now. I have literally no idea why the CoD launcher app exists on PlayStation.
