i think their point of "oh man who knew tweets could be taken any number of ways" fell flat for me. like...everyone fucking does. it's 2017. how haven't you realized that tweets are a horrible medium for a multitude of things. especially when this isn't even colin's first rodeo when it comes to shitty tweets. so yeah, i'd blame colin.
I think I've turned around on this somehow. I initially viewed the joke as nothing, because I thought Colin genuinely just meant it as a bad joke. Then people rightfully pointed out that making it on that day was kind of in poor taste. Then people pointed out that he probably meant to trigger people with it... to prove his point or whatever. It just feels shitty no matter how you look at it. I do think calling him alt-right and being hyperbolic about the tweet or his personality in general isn't the right approach. I just wish neither side overreacted, and I wish Colin actually acted reasonably and kept a reasonable tone here. He always asks people to be more reasonable, and is often raising very reasonable points... but he often talks in such an aggressive tone, that what he says ends up being lost. He's basically accusing the opposite side of doing what he tends to do himself. It's hypocritical, and I wish he could see it, because I really do think he's capable of being very eloquent and of making good points. I also think he's shown he has the capacity to reconsider and change his mind often, as any reasonable person should be able to do. His tone, however, has consistently been problematic in the past (to me), and I'm sad that it ended up driving him out of the industry.
