I'm not sure I disagree with this statement. I'm frequently more frustrated with other liberals. But still, alt-righters are the only ones resorting to violence and death threats. So...yes, he's in the area of a point, but this is much less of a "both sides suck" and more of a "one side is actively horrible" and one side merely "annoys the fuck outta me" .

The regressive left is definitely a thing, and they are authoritarian and want to police what you say, do, what games you like, what comedians you find funny, what shows you want to watch, and so forth. However, it's a fairly small camp on the left. Not as large as the Christian Conservatives who still campaign in fairly large numbers against pro choice and gay marriage.
Still, you know what you're doing. Put out that tweet and sit back and watch people lose their shit. That's not really the new thing to do, people have been doing it well before you Colin!

I think the fact that he hates Hillary is crucially important because it shows he acknowledges the importance of the event despite not liking the person at the center of it. It doesn't lessen what he said, in fact it strengthens it.
Of course the two examples don't "prove" anything, they were just the first two that came to mind.

I didn't think the original tweet was that offending - ignoring all the other dumb shit he has done - until he ran his sob story through Rubin, Beck, Rogan, and every other conservative "news source". Starting to think he might honestly end up at Breitbart considering he's done nothing but bash "the media" since the incident.

If you mean in this topic, unless anyone identifies as regressive, then no one.
In general though, anyone who takes being a moral busy body to the heights the right wing conservatives used to and still do. Where they want to tell you the games you play make you x (often if there is violence/swearing/nudity or any adult content they cannot handle), the shows you watch make you x (again often because of adult content), and any form of speech which might be slightly offensive (often religious satire given Christian fundamentalism) makes you x. Valuing collectivism way more than individualism, and wanting to tar, package up and ship off people as problematic for the slightest of perceived personal offences.
Pretty much the things most of us seriously dislike about the right wingers who are complete authoritarians and want to know everything about your life from the second you wake up, to who you sleep with, to what you do for fun and try and impose/restrict and call you out, often for completely natural things.
It can be very successful in shutting someone down, destroying them personally and ultimately controlling them, hence a minor group on the left is trying to mimic what the right has done over years to gain power, control and authority over others.

I can't speak for Colin and his playing victim again (not gonna defend that aspect of him), but I myself see the true regressive left not necessarily as the "zomg PC SJW suck" thing it seems to be on twitter, but by the Bill Maher version of it that is the stance of embracing liberal values at all times and absolutely rejecting cultural relativism.
For instance, I don't just feel we are "different" than Saudi Arabia, who is horrible to women, I feel western culture and values are superior and more advanced to theirs on that issue (they very well may beat us in other things). Many liberals are fine with bashing the radical christian right, but then suddenly hold their fire if the facts are similar but Islam (or whatever else) is at the center of it.
The true liberal position is to be for progressive values above cultural sensitivity. Rejecting this is inherently regressive. Hence "regressive left" as I understand it.
That doesn't mean being culturally sensitive has no value - you shouldn't be a dick to people and you should try to consider their point of view and how their culture plays into it. However, once cultural sensitivity and liberal ideals clash, the ideals must win out.

Is it based off the assumption that exercising speech that says Moriarty is a douche is actually censorship coupled with the assumption a defining trait of the Christian Right (and few other groups) is censorship? Neither assumption is correct but I have no other guesses on what he is trying to convey.

There is a natural tension when your values are both support equality and defend the equality of the underclass who is constantly under attack primarily on racist grounds. Gaf in general is overly polite to Islam, but I don't doubt that protecting minorities used as scapegoats is where most posters are coming from. A lot of the people throwing accusation about the regressive left are a bit too foaming at the mouth when it comes to Muslims to not suspect there is something beyond their love of women's liberation at play.

I don't know if he truly believes that, but he has a tendency to speak like he does. He constantly uses hyperbolic statements like "Literally NOBODY does X thing" and "People always say" with no nuance whatsoever. Then he goes on to talk about how nuanced and grey everything is and how it's important to "think better of your fellow man". I really think it boils down to a major tone issue he has. He can be very eloquent, but he lets his passion cloud his judgment far too often.

A big difference between the regressive left and the Christian right is that thankfully the regressive left is restricted to being obnoxious in social media. They don't have any actual power. I can't think of any politicians that would actually qualify as a regressive leftist, while basically any Republican you can think of will fall into the Christian right mold.

To further reply to you, you are describing liberals, or left wing liberals if you prefer. People further left of the spectrum generally do not defend burkas and what not because they typically think religion in general is clearly a tool of the ruling class. Political debate in America is very confined to the middle and right, so people generally don't know what actual socialists, anarchists, communists, etc. think.
