What about a plus one model with the BCS 1 getting an autobid to the MNC+? So technically a five team playoff for the other MNC+ game slot between BCS teams 2-5.
Kevin Steele turns down UT (Posted on 1/10/12 at 3:43 p.m.)
Spartanburg, SC --
A source close to Tennessee head football coach Derek Dooley says that Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele recently turned down an offer to take the same position at his alma mater, Seven On Your Side has learned.
Tennessee has been searching for a new defensive coordinator since last week's departure of Justin Wilcox to Washington.
Reports indicate that Baylor's Phil Bennett has also turned down the Volunteers.
Steele has been Clemson's defensive coordinator since 2009 and was courted for the same opening two years ago.
His Clemson defense finished in the middle or lower half of the ACC in several statistical categories this past season and closed out the year allowing 63 of the 70 points scored by West Virginia in last Wednesday's Orange Bowl.
Steele told the Charleston Post&Courier Tuesday afternoon that his status as defensive coordinator at Clemson remains unchanged.

guy's, who are we blaming the economy on now, Bush or Obama?
BCS #1 is pretty hard to get and usually demonstrates a regular season above all others. Like LOLSU during this season. Plus in the case of LSU they did have to play that CCG to win the conference - which is more than others had to do. Bama, and congrats to them for winning last night, got an easier path to the MNC by not having to play for the conference. Which I don't think is right.Hopefully not. BCS #1's reward should be to play the "lowest rated" of the Playoff. Not a "Proceed to Go, Collect $200" card.
Right, but what about the times when 1 and 2 are fuzzy? Sure, your system would work perfectly for this season, but what if OK State hadn't lost to ISU?BCS #1 is pretty hard to get and usually demonstrates a regular season above all others. Giving an autobid to #1 rewards them for their regular season while the usually fuzzy remaining top 5 can battle it out on the field.
Don't act like OSU didn't give up 600 yards to Stanford. Only team that gave up more yards to the Furd this year were the Huskies.1) The Total Defense stat is often highly misleading, especially given the diversity in style of play among different teams.
2) OSU's defensive rankings are much more understandable if you realize that they played an ungodly number of minutes this year compared to teams like Bama (due to our style of offense), and that many of the yards against our D were against the second-team D in garbage time.

Edit: But a straight up BCS 1-4 playoff would make me happier nonetheless.
That 1 spot wasn't going to be challenged unless LSU lost. If a team doesn't get the 1 spot, at least they still have a clear undisputed shot to the 2 slot via the playoff.Right, but what about the times when 1 and 2 are fuzzy? Usually? Let's test that! If we look at who actually demonstrated a "regular season above all others", as in a better record than anyone else, let's see how often that's only one team.BCS #1 is pretty hard to get and usually demonstrates a regular season above all others.
Final defensive rankings: http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2011&rpt=IA_teamtotdef&site=org&div=IA&dest=O
Look at the difference in yards per play and yards per game between Alabama and... well, everyone else.
#1 Bama: 3.32 yards/play, 183.62 yards/game
#2 LSU: 4.08 yards/play, 261.50 yards/game
LSU played better offensive teams than did Alabama, so that skews it a bit, but it's still a gigantic margin. Yeesh.
No, just that the meaning of the regular season isn't always clear.Well, on the plus side, you just proved the BCS in general can't accurately predict rankings I guess (shocker). If there is that much doubt for #1, imagine the other ranks too.
Also means the regular season isn't as important as everyone likes to claim.

I don't understand, Manny Diaz is still employed at UT. Were we planning on hiring another DC just so to say we could?

They lost over a million households from last year.
They also didn't have to compete against Monday Night Football (same network!) and WWE Raw isn't really putting their best foot forward right now. They basically got viewers by default.
Well, if these are the top 2 Cable Programs, and Monday Night Football is a Cable Program...
It's Cable!

Really, I think there should be more games played in the regular season, and more "cross conference" playing than there is.
That's why the superconferences need to happen. Cut out all the Non-AQ teams, play only teams in the Super Conferences, and set up your playoff spots at the end. We'd have a better idea of who's good and who isn't.
Sure, going undefeated becomes impossible to accomplish, but at least then you won't "waste" a season by an unfortunate loss or 2.
Also, doing this, can rid us of the NCAA! And that's always a good thing!

I like the reactions from the sideline.
What the fuck is going on in that shovel pass GIF? My eyes are burning.
So what do you with the non-AQs? Banish them to FCS?
U mad that OU is now the little sister in its own state?
It's ok, we have season tickets and you're welcome to jump on the Poke Bandwagon next season.
Always wonder how ESPN ended up with all the BCS games. You'd think the NCAA would make more money off broadcast ad time.
Most of them, yes. Along with the aforementioned "hanger on's" in the BCS conferences.
All "the tradition of OU football" means to kids born in 1994 is conference titles followed by inevitable BCS failure.Mike Stoops is returning and we will smack you back down to little sister status in good time. The cancers have been removed and we shall rise with players that understand and appreciate the tradition of OU football!
or something like that.
In retrospect I take back anything nice I said about LSU after last night's performance. So pathetic. Congrats to Bama for becoming BCS champs by defeating Jordan Hanie. Badgers defense could have shut out LSU last night. Too bad Wisconsin had those two choke jobs during the regular season because they would be BCS champs right now after crushing LSU 63-0.
At least after last night's disaster we will get a plus one which will morph into an 8 team playoff!
Congratulations on winning the Rematch against Michigan State!

Why stop there. Just do a tournament of all FBS teams. Add some FCS teams to make an even 128. Or better yet, include all college football teams. Skip having a regular season. Seeding will be based on pre-season rankings.I won't stop until we have a full field of 64.

So what do you tell the MAC, Sun Belt, Mountain West, WAC and Conference USA when they can't get recruits anymore because the AQ schools are taking all of the five-star players because they can promise them TV + bowl exposure, even if they're riding the bench for 2-3 years? Because the FCS gets the table scraps of the FBS teams right now.
How would TV contracts be decided (as in, would they be torn up and the non-AQ schools be screwed)? Would the superconference schools basically separate from the NCAA and be their own watchdog, able to sweeten the pot by buying, errr, giving players a significant "stipend" and other benefits that other programs could never afford?
How would bowls work? Would it be superconference schools only? A mix of super-conference and FCS teams?
There's no doubt it'd clear up some shit ... but I think it would harm college football in the long run.
