What about a plus one model with the BCS 1 getting an autobid to the MNC+? So technically a five team playoff for the other MNC+ game slot between BCS teams 2-5.
Hopefully not. BCS #1's reward should be to play the "lowest rated" of the Playoff. Not a "Proceed to Go, Collect $200" card.

BCS #1 is pretty hard to get and usually demonstrates a regular season above all others. Like LOLSU during this season. Plus in the case of LSU they did have to play that CCG to win the conference - which is more than others had to do. Bama, and congrats to them for winning last night, got an easier path to the MNC by not having to play for the conference. Which I don't think is right.
Giving an autobid to #1 rewards them for their regular season while the usually fuzzy remaining top 5 can battle it out on the field.
Edit: But a straight up BCS 1-4 playoff would make me happier nonetheless.
Right, but what about the times when 1 and 2 are fuzzy? Sure, your system would work perfectly for this season, but what if OK State hadn't lost to ISU?

Don't act like OSU didn't give up 600 yards to Stanford. Only team that gave up more yards to the Furd this year were the Huskies.
Making it 5, already sounds like you're on the slippery slope of a 64 team playoff.
With teams 65 and 66 playing a play-in game to be team 64!
And speaking of "extra games", OSU still hasn't played a CCG (as it didn't exist for them this year).
You had your chance to crown LSU before the bowl's, but noooo, you can't do that now, can you.

That 1 spot wasn't going to be challenged unless LSU lost. If a team doesn't get the 1 spot, at least they still have a clear undisputed shot to the 2 slot via the playoff.
Edit: That's not the case at all. No slippery slope. Just a system to mitigate the massive deficiencies and criticisms of the current BCS. But like I said 4 is at least somewhat competent.
That still sucks to be undefeated and have to play 2 more games than the other undefeated guy.

Nothing would be crowned. But just an interesting scenario and one that is still superior to the present.
Usually? Let's test that! If we look at who actually demonstrated a "regular season above all others", as in a better record than anyone else, let's see how often that's only one team.

I count four times out of ten that the BCS #1 has demonstrated a regular season above all others. (Fun side note: in each of those four cases, the BCS #1 lost the title game.)
Looking at the data, I'm not sure your proposal makes sense.

Well, on the plus side, you just proved the BCS in general can't accurately predict rankings I guess (shocker). If there is that much doubt for #1, imagine the other ranks too.
Also means the regular season isn't as important as everyone likes to claim.

More like the difference between Bama and everyone else. In most of those stats (only exception being TDs allowed), LSU is closer to #3 SCAR than it is to #1 Bama. FSU and UGA are right behind SCAR.
Side note, why is there a "Ties" column if ties aren't possible anymore and haven't been for some time (or are they and it's just that you need to play like a dozen OTs first)?

That's why the superconferences need to happen. Cut out all the Non-AQ teams, play only teams in the Super Conferences, and set up your playoff spots at the end. We'd have a better idea of who's good and who isn't.
Sure, going undefeated becomes impossible to accomplish, but at least then you won't "waste" a season by an unfortunate loss or 2.
Also, doing this, can rid us of the NCAA! And that's always a good thing!

As for a split in the conferences for essentially another division. I could only support that if there was a competent promotion/relegation system and some existing teams in AQ conferences are shown the door. We all know there are some teams doing nothing more than sucking the teat of the BCS AQ status/money in their respective conferences. And we all know there are teams on the outside looking in that should be AQ.

They also didn't have to compete against Monday Night Football (same network!) and WWE Raw isn't really putting their best foot forward right now. They basically got viewers by default.

It was a bad matchup. Our pass D is actually outstanding, but it's a well-known fact that the way to beat us is to grind it out with a power running game and convert short 3rd downs.
Also worth noting about the Stanford game: we won.

I didn't see the play live but saw the reaction to it in this thread; when I saw the highlights it was so obvious which play got all the "lol wtf was that?" posts. I laughed heartily.
Wilbon on the game just now: "It was like a Big Ten game from the 60's except it was indoors. It was terrible."

With the winning coach promoting movies during post game press conferences they are finding a way to make that money. ESPN is way too big and powerful at this point and I don't like it one bit.

In retrospect I take back anything nice I said about LSU after last night's performance. So pathetic. Congrats to Bama for becoming BCS champs by defeating Jordan Hanie. Badgers defense could have shut out LSU last night. Too bad Wisconsin had those two choke jobs during the regular season because they would be BCS champs right now after crushing LSU 63-0.

Thanks! LSU could have won if they had Kirk Cousins at QB last night. Perhaps Miles should have made a push for Russell Wilson before the season started! As bad as the Big 10 can look at times, their top qbs in were better than the top QBS in the SEC! Of course this would require the SEC to actively pursue offensive talent on top of the defensive talent they collect!

I can actually see this. I'm a big proponent of "it is exactly what it is" when it comes to this sport. OkSt is right on OU's heels. My evidence? The results of this year's game and the final polls from this year.
I won't stop until we have a full field of 64.

So what do you tell the MAC, Sun Belt, Mountain West, WAC and Conference USA when they can't get recruits anymore because the AQ schools are taking all of the five-star players because they can promise them TV + bowl exposure, even if they're riding the bench for 2-3 years? Because the FCS gets the table scraps of the FBS teams right now.
How would TV contracts be decided (as in, would they be torn up and the non-AQ schools be screwed)? Would the superconference schools basically separate from the NCAA and be their own watchdog, able to sweeten the pot by buying, errr, giving players a significant "stipend" and other benefits that other programs could never afford?
How would bowls work? Would it be superconference schools only? A mix of super-conference and FCS teams?
There's no doubt it'd clear up some shit ... but I think it would harm college football in the long run.
