Been keeping a low profile with all that ole miss stuff the last couple of months.

Thanks dude, though I meant to write go Harbs, not go hard! haha

Another Ohio State "fan" outs himself as a Wolverine.

I think everyone secretly wants Michigan to do well. Same with Texas. Same with USC.

The more schools that can compete with Bama and tOSU, the better it is to watch.

I give this fandom 3 years until Harbaugh leaves, then it's on to USC or something.

Yes, I like Michigan because of Harbaugh. I was trying to find which team in the Big10 I like most, and Harbaugh swung my choice.

Come to think of it, the teams I like are the ones people on here seem to dislike a lot.

Miami in ACC
Ole Miss/LSU in SEC
Michigan in Big10
USC in Pac-12.
And I'd like to see Herman do well with Texas.

I want Michigan to lose ever single game every time they play. I do not wish them well when they are not playing us. I don't care if it makes the B1G better if both tOSU and Michigan are good.

Fuck Michigan. Always.

It's the only way to make sure Urban Meyer doesn't have his heart explode before his contract is up. Gotta keep him around to keep the domestic violence factory churning!

They beat Gondo State the year after the championship.

But opening against a P5 power is stupid. Too early in the season for that nonsense. Start with a cupcake and, as you get better, play better opponents.

I see the pros and cons of opening against P5's. I'd argue opening against cupcakes can be just as detrimental to a team. All depends on a ton of factors.

By all means, who's SEC's second best team? I need a laugh tonight

I think y'all are third or fourth behind LSU and maybe Auburn (yuck).

Too much stupid in this thread since we're back in OT. Gatas coming out of the woodwork and chicko is back and a fan of Michigan because of Harbaugh.

SEC is the deepest conference from top to bottom.

Not even close. Have you seen their success in bowl games and OOC lately?

PAC-12 and ACC are much better. The ACC's top 3 could take every single team in the SEC (minus Alabama) to the wood shed. They'd all challenge Bama too, and in Clemson's case beat them.

It's Alabama then a line of average to mediocre teams. As a Clemson fan, the ONLY reason Auburn concerns me is them being our first real game and us not knowing our QB situation. If we were 100% set at QB I'd yawn over Auburn.

I wouldn't even blink if we played Florida, Tennessee, etc. I'm much more concerned playing the likes of FSU.

You see, I was always under the impression whoever made it to SEC championship game besides Bama was SEC's second best team.

I'm not exactly sure what you're going for here. Depth comparisons between conferences aren't about how the top 3 (or Clemp) stack up against the other's.

In fact, it's really the inverse. The better question to consider is whether the UVAs and the Wakes can stack to the VandyBs or the KentuckyStoopses.

That's a weird assumption considering the other team is just the winner of the weaker division. Not sure one win last year is enough to offset that either. Smarten up, Nas.

SEC is pretty much an equal level of shit aside from Alabama. Until someone else steps up that's what it is. There are some good teams but they're pretty much all around 3-4 losses.

We'll see what happens this year. Y'all are both arguing at brick walls.

Saban chased every decent coach out of the SEC. It's a coaching dumpster fire atm. Bragging about beating anyone from the East? Lol, pathetic and obviously would come from an ACC fan.

Didn't the SEC break a bowl record in 2015 or something? They're not the dominant force they once were, but calling the entire conference shit seems weird. Especially when that's then followed by praise of the Pac-12, which only has 3 teams worth a damn at the moment, only 2̶ 1 of which has real national championship aspirations. All these conferences are top heavy now. The ACC maybe has the best depth, but we're still figuring that out. For all the flack the Big 10 gets, no one seems to be arguing they don't have 4 teams with legit playoff hopes in anOSU, Pedo State, the fighting Harbaughs, and Wisky (holy shit, is Wisconsin my B1G team?). That's better than anyone else, even with last season's bowl collapse.

Rule changes for the year

Players are no longer allowed to jump over blockers to block a field goal/extra point.

Players are now required to wear knee pads and pants that cover the knees. Previously, this was only a recommendation.

The nameplate on the back of the jersey is now part of a "horse-collar tackle".

The second half will promptly start when the halftime clock reaches 0:00.

The game clock will start immediately upon spotting the ball after a ball carrier goes out of bounds (outside of the last 2:00 of each half).

Coaches will now be penalized for coming on the field to argue a call (15 yards, unsportsmanlike conduct).

Source for the above rules was Roll Bama Roll

Embrace that Championship of Life man, I know how important it is to you guys.

I totally did can't you tell.

I mean when everyone else is shit it means that everyone else is on a level field and any given saturday and parity from 2-14 and all that shit make for exciting close games

Its getting harder for me to care at this point with concussions, the extra level of creepy recruiting got with the arrival of social media, the NCAA being a terrible organization, and the exploiting to the athletes that goes on.

I mean, they chose that hashtag. Clearly there was something going on in their subconscious.

These three seem very significant. Especially the clock change, that will probably reduce the number of plays per game a decent amount. Actually that one won't, for some reason my mind went to incomplete passes and not out of bounds, but that might be next.

Probably going to see a lot of penalties this season from those two other changes as well.

Apologies for DP, but I thought many of us would find this interesting having grown up in the South.

Great article. Thanks for sharing. I love reading feature stories like this.

Can someone explain the clock change to me? As soon as they determine where the ball stopped, they're going to start the clock even before they've reset the ball?

I was probably wrong about the clock change, it won't do a whole lot. For some reason I was thinking incomplete passes and not out of bounds, but I wouldn't be surprised if they change that later too.

IIRC the old rule had the clock start on the ref's signal after the ball was placed, the new rules are that it starts immediately when the ball is placed, no signal required.

Coaches costing their teams 15 yards will probably be really common for the first part of the season, and I suspect we are going to have at least a couple controversial calls/no calls on high jersey grab tackles with the horse-collar rule change.

lol didn't Louisville lose to Kentucky last year. I want to see these receipts on out of conference and bowl games lately

Nebraska's 2017 Season, as I see it!

Arkansas St - 42 - 17 W
@Oregon - 37 - 34 W
Northern Illinois - 32 - 18 W
Rutgers - 47 - 13 W
@Illinois - 28 - 24 W
Wisconsin - 21 - 44 L
Ohio St - 24 - 47 L
@Purdue - 36 - 21 W
Northwestern - 37 - 35 W
@Minnesota - 28 - 27 W
@Penn St - 27 - 30 L
Iowa - 42 - 17 W

B1G Championship - Wiscy 11-1 v Mich 11-1 - 37-35 Wiscy

If Michigan makes the B1G Champ with everything they lost last season I'll lose my mind.

Also assuming everyone stays healthy, Nebraska beats Wisconsin this year.

Not sure about the Oregon game though, and not sure when we'll have a brainfart game

Feel pretty good about Oregon > Nebraska.

Oregon gave the game away in Lincoln last year (two point conversions lol) and had their worst team in 30 years. Hell Oregon's backup played that game at QB too. Better staff, renewed culture, great QB, at Autzen... If Oregon comes out well against Southern Utah I think they take it to the Cornhuskers this year (who I think are rebuilding a bit).

just keep in mind Nebraska's defense was terrible last year, and is rebuilt this year, and Nebraska had a truly mediocre quarterback now replaced by a good pro style guy. Basically Nebraska should be better on both lines, at LB, and at QB this year.

oh and autzen might as well be a neutral field for that game

Cunningham screamed for targeting on any solid hit over the last few years. It was obnoxious.

I think he's ultimately ahead of the curve here (in terms of football transitioning away from being as full contact as it is...) and maybe leading the charge.... but I won't miss him in the booth in the slightest.
