Yeah, wasn't that guy doing pushups in the street or something? I remember it was really friggin' bizarre.

Hah, yeah I just found him on Wikipedia. According to the police they found him doing pushups in the street wearing only "wet shorts." When the cops asked him who he was, he kept telling them he was God. :lol Poor kid. I hope he's got his shit together now.

Why hasn't FSU had a good QB in a long time? They can still recruit defense and running-backs, but their QB core has been pretty consistently bad.

Would you have wanted to play for Jeff Bowden?

You Gator fans are a still nuts. With all those claims and commercials of Gatorade being created at Florida, when in reality it was the team doctor at FSU.

Always second fiddle to fine folks in Tallahassee. On the bright side you did have the whole Ted Bundy thing.

What are you talking about? Dr Cade's team created it. Not that it was mentioned much at all until Florida won the title this past year.

Well in the guy's defense, all of our QB recruits since Weinke have been solid high school prospects. X was the #1 QB recruit in the country, won Mr. Florida and set tons of records (Tebow broke a few of them actually). Weatherford was considered a very solid pocket QB and Rix was one of the top QB recruits in the nation his senior season as well. A bunch of them just haven't panned out sadly... largely in part to terrible coaching from Jeff Bowden and Darryl Dickey.

Christian Ponder, D'Vo Richards and EJ Manuel are going to be prepared though and Jimbo'll right the ship in terms of teaching a QB how to improve upon his natural talent.

Wrong-o - the real truth can be found here. Florida was the FIRST TO PATENT IT. Freely distributed by the team doctor at FSU, idea taken, tweaked and voila - GATORADE.

History of Gatorade:

Contary to popular belief, the University of Florida did not come up with the sports drink that is now known as Gatorade. The team doctor for the FSU football team, Dr. R.A. Johnson, began producing a sports drink that he called "Seminole Firewater" as early as 1962. Dr. Johnson blended sugar and lime flavoring with electrolytes (salts) to help keep the players hydrated and to prevent cramping. In 1964 at an annual Seminar of Collegiate sports physicians and athletic trainers held in Tallahasse, Fl., a representative from the University of Florida found out about the discovery that sodium and potassium keeps athletes better hydrated because it gives back to the body what is lost through sweat. They returned to Gainesville and, after being tested on the UF football players, the name "Gatorade" was given. The University of Florida requested a certified patent in 1967 for the drink that Dr. Johnson had freely shared with the public.

Even though the popular sports drink known as "Gatorade" will always be affiliated with the University of Florida, true credit belongs to Dr. R.A. Johnson and the Florida State University.

---------------------------------------------------------

Of course since the Gatorade patent was from UF and they profit from it, the story begins at Florida with Cade.

:lol So they'd like us to think.

A little more truth:
More than 40 years ago, a team of doctors at the University of Florida began to research why the University’s football team struggled to keep hydrated and maintain performance. They soon discovered that the Gator players were not adequately replacing what they were losing throughout practices and games.

After some research, the doctors invented Gatorade, a carbohydrate-electrolyte beverage that featured a scientifically balanced blend of fluid, carbohydrates, and electrolytes that would encourage Gator players to rehydrate and refuel effectively. Today, Gatorade Thirst Quencher can be found on sports sidelines, at every level, all over the world.

The legacy established by the original team of doctors is carried on by the staff at GSSI, who actively pursue and develop new Gatorade products to ensure that for every sports need there’s a scientifically tested, field-proven Gatorade product available.

OK, Ya got me with your History of Branding website. Sure looks like the patent for Gatorade says University of Florida though:p

Exactly, the patented product was U of F and hence Gatorade was created. They stole and tweaked the creation of the FSU doctor after seeing it was successful with FSU players.

Do you really expect Gatorade to put that factoid in? Nada. But you learned something new today and that is the important thing. :D

I could not believe that someone who follows Florida sports could forget about a Heisman trophy winner. Yet, I read it right here. Consider me a believer.

Don't forget

<---- Sooner fan

Impartial since I hate all Florida teams, though I hate Miami the most. FSU was kind enough to forget bringing their offense in the 2000 championship.

Damn you FSU! Way to start off the season. Bench Weatherford and start Lee dammit. I'll be damned if I have to watch another game of sack the slow ass FSU QB 10+ times. That last drive was embarrassing. I swear Weatherford was trying to get sacked; he probably bet on Clemson to win by six.

CLEMSON FUCKING FOOTBALL!

Man, just getting back from the game, and I thought I was going to die of a heart attack. I don't understand how we could be so lights out in the first half, only to fall completely flat in the second half. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, as Tommy is pretty useless when it comes to halftime adjustments. Aaron Kelly is going to be a star though. Hopefully we'll be able to get him the ball more. Anyway, as loud and intense as the stadium was tonight, there was no way that FSU was going to win it. You could just feel it in the atmosphere. The place was just insane. Now let's just take care of business for the rest of the month so we can meet up with VT the first week in October undefeated.

Fork 'em, Sparky!
with the way VT looked against ECU, I don't think you guys will have too much trouble beating them if Clemson can play like their first half throuh 4 quarters :)

Awesome first week thread, everyone. Keep up the good work. A++++ Week 2 thread will be up tomorrow.

Drew Weatherford reminds me alot of Chris Rix... only problem is that Chris Rix was inconsistant in that one play would be a interception ... the other would be a touch down.. While Drew is one is a 3 foot dump off to a man in coverage.. The other is throwing it to the bleachers
Chris Rix was a Santa Margarita Catholic alumnus, and thus a champion. Don't you dare try and bring him down like that!

I am glad you are doing them. I was going to make an official CF thread only one day before you put up week 1 because I felt time was running low, but am glad I waited the extra day for you to do it.

Good Job and here's to a great week 2!

Plenty of upsets to go around for week 2, let's just hope Wake over NU isn't one of them!!

Thanks for waiting! Last year's week 1 thread was up for weeks and this year it didn't even get a week. Definitely a feast or famine type thing. :lol

I don't think Wake will repeat their success from last season, even with the favorable ACC schedule.

AlteredBeast

Fork 'em, Sparky!
Yeah, I don't think the Huskers will have too much trouble, especially considering the trouncing they laid on Nevada. Still, it is in Wake Forest, so anything can happen. If App St can beat Michigan in the Big House, anything can SURELY happen. I will be holding my breath until NU pulls away I guess.

The BYU game is the other one I am truly going to be watching intently. I feel like last years BYU team could've manhandled this current UCLA squad, but with a new QB in Max Hall, who doesn't look quite as solid as John Beck, I think I might be in for disappointment. :p

I watched them against BC some and they still looked pretty good. I don't think they will win the ACC but didn't think they won't have some huge drop off where they go 5-7 or something.

I think the game with Nebraska would have been a really interesting one (probably more than the VT/LSU game) but Reily Skinner has a seperated shoulder and probably won't play so I think Nebraska will win pretty easily and I am not sure about the drop off now. Sucks for him because he really is a great QB.

Sorry I missed most of the weekend thread, guys. I was in Virginia Beach running a half-marathon.

- Henig sucks!

- LOLverines

- Ramblin' Wreck blowed up ND real good.

- Overall, decent representation by the SEC. Unfortunately for Tennessee, it looks like the Cal offense picked up right where is left off from the bowl game with aTm. Alabama only played in a scrimmage this week, so it is hard to evaluate how good/bad we are.

Azwe - As long as Alabama schedules Clemson as one of the last 3 or 4 games of the season then you guys are toast. :D
