Do we think "no live stream for real reasons" means GamesCom or the Twitch streaming feature on XB1?

I'm not sure how systems architectural reasons could mean they can't live stream their conference at Gamescom unless it was using the power of the cloud ;)

Got to be Twitch surely...

If that's true: what the hell is going on over there at MS? *shocked*

From what they told if im not mistaken they only choose an pitched idea in 2011.
Sony from what i heard started in 2007 prototyping and assigning one team to it.

And off course we are told one man is responsible for most of the decisions for the ps4.
Rest is history no i do hope sony has a good gamescom and shows some games i want to play i can find an extra $399 to spend for this year..

Are you sure? Why would not final architecture hinder a livestream? I am confused.

The latest SDK is causing performance issues, so games running on the latest and greatest will be performing less than optimally. It's not final architecture and will be fixed for launch, but since they run less than great now MS doesn't want to stream it.

Would be my guess reading of that.

All these system issues, production issues, 180s, and now a possible Kinectless SKU to be released post-launch tells me that Microsoft is in a total mess with XB1. They aren't ready to release this console, but will end up rushing it.

It only cost them a billion dollars in repairs last time, what could go wrong this time?

Wonder what exactly happened to Microsoft this time around. They beat Sony to the punch by being first to launch and also having great support for the first two years. They constantly upgraded their online services and started introducing new experiences into xbox live. And now here we are, months before release and Microsoft is still constantly fumbling the ball.

Its really sad to see because the original xbox got me into console gaming, despite all the available consoles at the time. I loved xbox live and I wouldn't have got into gaming as much without it. They don't seem to be ready for launch and it just makes me wonder what exactly have they been doing these last few years considering the performance of Sony these last few months. Sony hasn't stop throwing the punches and you knew things were going to go down when Kaz mentioned that he had no intention on showing his cards first. Sony is even releasing their console in October! That just shows how on point they are this time around.

And now MS is considering a Kinectless SKU. That just shows how things are right now.

My guess is they wanted to show the OS features or gameplay live, but performance and stability were not ready to be shown to the public? Perhaps they even heard that Sony is going to be showing a lot live and that it'd be best not to show anything from their side then?

Edit: oh and thanks, CBoaT!

If the games are running on devkits, and just had their performance drop by 10-15%, you wouldn't want to show games with noticeable slowdown to the world, and instead cherry pick videos to put up where they are running well.

It's a hands-on event, so it's presumably live code instead of pre-recorded video like a traditional conference might use.

Like, for example, they probably don't want an Assassin's Creed Sony PS4 meeting moment.

So they let all games run on the same devkits again on the showfloor?

I suspected from cboats earlier posts that the only reason the XboxOne is getting a staggered launch is because of poor yields.Anyway disappointing that bigpark game was cancelled.

They probably wanted to do live gameplay originally, but with a performance decrease with the latest SDK, they couldn't pull it off, so it would've either been repeat all the CG vids from E3, or nothing at all.

And yet they're having a live show floor event for attendees to play, from which they'll be releasing media for all to consume?

I think we should try to translate his full text, it's nice to know his take on it as well IMO.

Greetings from the land of beer, bratwurst and weird porn! Got here a little whle ago and I'm tired, so I'm dropping this early. Then I'm going to bed and after that I'll visit some churches and friends that are in the park. Afterwards I'll go to work meetings and stuff and then see how the gamefloor is later on this week.

No live storm for real reasons. Xbox One architecture still not fully complete. Latest SDK version of a couple of weeks ago dropped performance by 15-20% across the board. Now, before you Xbottles (xbox one fans?) get mad at me, this happens all the time in console development and it will eventually be fixed, but not a chance of early october release...

2
...certainly not for all 21 countries. Localization is one hundred percent bullshit. Period. Excuses (from Microsoft) nobody with common sense would consider. Look at the countries dropped. Cross reference against languages spoken in official and otherwise mentioned countries. I said yield issues 2 months ago and the chicks have come home to roost (? didn't get this one)
Knock-ons for launch titles, smartglass, etc. 180s instead of one coherent vision. Paying the price now.

Late october launch for PS4. Sony SDKs are ready, you can basically master to final right now. Today. (I believe he means devs can already polish their games based on how the console will be launched right now)

4
If you thought people are mad about Bayonetta getting a sequel on the Wii U, you'll be somewhat unhappy about what MS is money-hatting with Platinum. Other japanese developers are in play, but Kamiya is the only one I am solid on. Game not considered for north america or Europe, which makes no sense by the way, but whatever.

5
BigPark game canceled. It was MOBA. Dead now. A whole studio focused on TV stuff services! All the best talent went to Black Tusk of left Microsoft entirely. Rare is still focused on Kinect, no matter what else you might have heard.

6
New indie policy still undefined. TBD post-launch.

Suprise in early September. Apology in advance: everything I saw over the last 24 months was that there was no chance of a Kinect-less SKU. (I didn't get the middle part, it's some kind of joke, I guess)
Whisper of console-only SKU in early 2014, around March/April.
Enough smoke right now that I didn't want to wail until September to say it! Launch number fallout will play its part.

Ass storm is coming.

I'm assuming they'll be releasing a Kinectless SKU not just for poor launch sales, but also to appease European privacy laws.

I mean is this stuff really true? MS is literally 3 months away and their console is still baking in the oven? How can a game developer even port a game for the "One" if this is the case? Ouch if true...

Look at all the bullshit they've decided to take out after low preorders...consumer backlash against the version of the Xbox One they promoted in May and June.

Why in the world would MS invest in a Japanese only game and why would a developer make a game for Xbox only to be released in Japan? That makes no sense for anyone involved.

If you're a JP dev/pub wouldn't it make more sense and money to support all consoles especially the JP ones...?

I agree, it makes sense for Japanese developers to be multiplatform. My issue is the fact that it's only an issue if it's exclusive to Xbox.

For a long time I've silently had a theory of MS funding a ZOE 3 from Konami. I know, I know, it's crazy. But with Kojima seemingly being friends with MS and now this, I'll make it an official prediction.

MS to announce ZOE 3.

crazy talk. But. A ZOE 3 by kamiya would be very very attractive prospect further down the line.

when was the last time you was in a Bayonetta 2 thead?

they have so many franchises people want sequels for years now,why not making a new starfox, super metroid or mario 64-2

why do they have to steal our games?and that's exactly what they do,taking a beloved 3rd party franchise and making it exclusive so others can't play it is stealing

i am a bayonetta fan

He is still heavily hinting at low launch numbers everywhere even after the 21 to 13 country thing due to esram yields.

Architecture incomplete, indie policy not yet post launch...

This console is being rushed out in November.

It certainly sounds that way doesn't it? I just hope the launch titles don't pull a Forza and require you to download the other half.

Why would the XB1's SDK being incomplete stop them from having a live stream? That makes zero sense...

Lack of control in a big public arena or live stream. Having a more controlled series of sessions with journalists etc is easier to handle issues with boxes etc

It's only a bad thing when they exclusively support Microsoft...?

The best selling game in japan for the 360 sold 208,521 units.
The best selling game in japan for the original xbox sold 216,825 units.
Xbox doesn't sell in japan and neither does software. Devs making japanese-centric games for a console that doesn't sell is a great way to kill said game in their own market.
