FBI director James Comey generated national headlines last week with his dramatic testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, explaining his "incredibly painful" decision to go public about the Hillary Clinton emails found on Anthony Weiner's laptop.

Perhaps Comey's most surprising revelation was that Huma Abedin — Weiner's wife and a top Clinton deputy — had made "a regular practice" of forwarding "hundreds and thousands" of Clinton messages to her husband, "some of which contain classified information." Comey testified that Abedin had done this so that the disgraced former congressman could print them out for her boss. (Weiner's laptop was seized after he came under criminal investigation for sex crimes, following a media report about his online relationship with a teenager.)



According to two sources familiar with the matter — including one in law enforcement — Abedin forwarded only a handful of Clinton emails to her husband for printing — not the "hundreds and thousands" cited by Comey. It does not appear Abedin made "a regular practice" of doing so. Other officials said it was likely that most of the emails got onto the computer as a result of backups of her Blackberry.

At least they are going to correct the record. But was the information about Abedin forwarding those emails for printing known before last week?
 
I think this is largely immaterial. She shouldn't have forwarded any emails to Weiner's laptop, nor should she have backed up what I assume to be a government provided phone to that laptop either.

This is what I'm trying to figure out. In the grand scheme of the damage Comey did to Hilary, what he misspoke about seems pretty insignificant.

I think it indicates that he didn't even know the actual details of the case. He's just reading reports and moving pieces on his checker board.

Ah. That makes more sense then from that angle. I could see him not knowing the details, or caving to the pressure of what he did to her and his recent need to play the "pity me" card for what he did...which might have led to stupid embellishments.

Reality: Huma forwarded like five "pls print" emails from Hillary to Weiner that were about NYT articles. The rest of the emails ended up there probably through accidental auto backing up.

Comey saying that Huma forwarded thousands of emails is almost a smear that makes it seem like Huma was deeply involved in some misdirection and crime.

He should apologize for misspeaking and stop being a dumbfuck.

Comey being incompetent doesn't really have anything to do with Hillary or her supporters. Pointing that out doesn't make anyone a "Hillary stan". And Trump had considerable help from certain outside factors.

Trump gave us Trump, and no one else is responsible for us having Trump except the man himself and:

a.) people who voted Trump - almost all of which are abhorrent racist, misogynistic, xenophobic trash in some way
b.) people who voted third party - particularly in PA, Wisconsin and Michigan, and willingly spread conspiracies and FUD to justify their selfish votes.
c.) Those who influenced these morons - such as Comey and the Russians utilizing wikileaks as propaganda arm - are also complicit.

We know who is responsible. America is poisoned with these monsters, and now there's no hiding it. We got the circus on full display now.

The data helps me sleep at night.

It allows me to know precisely who the targets are, and make sure my contempt for these grotesques is known. Then when we fight our next political war, we know where the aim our battles to subvert their propaganda and conspiracies and their "both sides"-ism.

Hillary's campaign was demonstrably the most transparent ever in American history thanks to the emails leaks, and the fact that nothing serious was found within them except bonkers conspiracies and helping out girls in need demonstrates just the nonsense this election was about.

Motherfuckers will pay for this election, by being squeezed out of power altogether as the level of minorities and Democratic voters continue to rise in this country. We have time, the day will come. Their time is running out. And when we finally get there, we wont play nice with the minority party.

Comey's daft behavior just again illustrates how fucked up this all was.

Why would she forward those emails that were previously under investigation to print? Regarding backups, why would a backup process forward emails?

Nothing about this makes any sense. No one was charged either which makes it even more curious.

I dont think the "stars aligned" on this discovery while investigating weiner, this appears as something far more malicious and intentional. Perhaps by a 3rd party. The timing was too perfect.

Have you guys seen his testimony? A whole lot of it hinged on this statement to make it sound way more suspicious than it actually was.
 
This is huge not just because Comey used the quantity of e-mails to justify what to most people appear to be partisan actions but also because he couldn't wait for a warrant before sending the letter. The sheer volume of the e-mails was the FBI's supposed reason for not being able to actually look at the e-mails before commenting on their existence (which broke FBI election-season protocols).

It's also hilarious that Cruz cited this nonsense fact during the Yates hearing today.

I dont think there was a secret that he was doing these things, the girl has given numerous interviews and has given the text logs to the appropriate authorities.

I am pretty sure this is all public knowledge at this point. Not sure where prosecutors are at with his legal issues though

How is it more simplistic? The narrative you're peddling is "Hillary fucked up and she's the only reason 'you' have Trump", that is decidedly MORE simplistic than actually looking at every element at play here, including Comey's incompetence and Russia's meddling. You're the one actively trying to oversimply the argument.
 
Given the amount of tangental misleading and straight up bullshit questions at these hearings so far, I'm surprised this is the only big inaccuracy Comey has said so far. And, correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't actually change anything. The only thing that has changes is the context of why the emails were on the machine (Blackberry backup vs forwarded for printing.)
 
And this is the rigorous, impartial individual that we are trusting to get to the bottom of this in lieu of the toadie-filled house & senate committees.

Where is the astute Mr. Springsteen to inform us that that the testimonies are a waste of money and we should sit down and wait for the FBI to reach a answer?

I generally agree unless the emails/backups were properly stripped of classified information, which I understand is not the case. It would be a mitigating factor if Weiner maintained his security clearance or the laptop were properly secured.

Several other polls were conducted over the same period that showed Mr. Trump gaining quickly on Mrs. Clinton in the days ahead of the Comey letter. And the timing of these polls — particularly the gap between when they were taken and when they were released — has probably helped to exaggerate the effect of Mr. Comey’s letter on the presidential race.
