well not really...yet
I keep reading raves about morning glories, so I took a glance at the last issue. Man, the artwork is just so bad. The perspective fail alone was enough for me to put the book down.

I hope if it's okay if I talk about stuff I'm reading in this thread since there doesn't seem to be any active Comic-GAF thread.

Currently reading Locke & Key. Well, I read the first trade, so far, and I'm really liking it. I only hope that it keeps up and I don't get bored/have high expectations of the rest of the story. It's kinda how Chew felt to me. The first arc was awesome, but the second didn't have the same "glory" the first did. Dunno.

Thy Kingdom Come, wasn't really my cup of tea when all is said and done. A bit too long winded and needed more of old Superman being old and awesome.

It did have its moments, but I'm gonna sell off the hardcovers.

Dale Eaglesham has become one of my favorite newer artists though. I absolutely love that when I read a comic he's drawing, it doesn't look like some hack relying heavily on photo reference for everything. The characters pop off the page and have that look I love about comics!

Did the Dini / D'Anda Batmangs video game comic start coming out yet? D'anda's designs are so much better than the game looks. I am kind of looking forward to him doing several issues of his stuff w/ Dini.

And check out this fun interview with Fred Perry on 20 years of Gold Digger!

Perry is quick to describe "Gold Digger" as a mix of "Indiana Jones" and "Final Fantasy." The multitalented sisters at the focus of the series, scientist and archaeologist Gina Diggers and martial artist/shopaholic/body guard Britanny Diggers, have been adventuring together since accidentally discovering a dragon's cave. "From that first adventure, Gina and her sister have been uncovering the world's hidden history of legends, myth, magic and ancient super-science," Perry said. "On their journeys, they've collected a gallery of awesome, heroic friends and dastardly, vicious enemies! Each fantastic discovery leads them closer to their hidden destiny which springs forth from the very dawn of time!"

GO FRED, GO! LIVE THE DREAM!

That was definitely the thing that turned me off the comic when I first saw it, but then my LCS knocked $2 bucks off the trade and so I had to buy it...

Probably one of the best new stories coming from Image since Chew. It's really good and I've managed to push back some of my feelings on the art. For $10 bucks the 1st trade is a steal, trust.

No monthlies for me this week, but I got the last hardcover of Gotham Central in the mail today. I'm going on my first reading of that series. Pretty good so far.

By the way, what's with Batman 708? The cover is not only different from the solicit on DC's site, but it seems to represent a totally different story from the one described.

EDIT: So I guess 708 is now a part of Hine's crossover about Azrael or something.

Definitely agree with you there. It really lost alot of steam by being so long. Could have been 4 issues shorter.

Also finally got the last two Starman Omnibus editions. Halfway through 5 now. One of the best long form comics I have read. What happened to you James Robinson?

I envy you. Would love to read Gotham Central with new eyes again. That series was soooo good. As for Bats, I wonder if it ties into Azreal's finale issue.

I'd love to enjoy the story, but I don't think I can with that kind of art.

The artist simply isn't ready for drawing monthlies imo.

In the meantime there are upcoming Image books with art that looks like this:

Hopefully the writing is at least 50% as good as that art is...

Fuck yeah, Uncanny X-Force! Highly recommended to anyone. I'm not up to date on any of the team-members other books, but it's very easy to get into. Deadpool is amazing in this.

Where would be a good spot to start reading Uncanny X-Force?

Also I've always loved the Transformers tv show, toys and films, where's a good spot to start with the IDW releases?

Other than that, just Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates for me, the build up to the DoSM arc is getting me very hyped!

You can start at #5 if you can't find the first few (though I recommend just starting with #1 of the rebooted series). The first four issues are one story arc but it gets summed up pretty well in the #5 front page.

Not much for me this week. Uncanny X-Force (5.1? wat.) & Ruse. Probably will pick up Young Avengers too just to see how that goes.

Blargh, big week this week. Heavily debating picking up Xombi for some Frazier Irving art.

And just to add, the art for Morning Glories doesn't phase me, but I'm seeing similarities between Morning Glories and T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. Being that Spencer usually focuses on one character per issue. Not that I mind, but it makes for a very slow story.

DC really needs to hire someone to re-design Doomsday.

Of all the characters that need a make over, Doomsday is the biggest. He was lame in the 90's, he's lame in 2011.

Are you telling me that Action Comics is actually going to be about Superman again? And it seems that Cornell is staying on. Cool shit.

I should catch up on Action. Haven't read anything since that issue with Death, I think.

Yeah, sadly the Luthor arc ends in Action 899, which is when I'll be dropping the book again.

I don't really follow a lot of the news sites for comics outside of solicits, but has Marvel said if Spidey has
lost his spider sense for good
? When I read the issue when it happened I took it to be
a temporary thing that wouldn't last more than an issue or so. It was funny watching him screw up his webslinging and wipe out into the police car though
.

They've released a compendium issue of Uncanny X-Force with 1-3 in one book. Perfect place to start on the perfect comic book.

Also, Book of the Skull art is such a bonerkiller.

The Luthor stuff is solid, but if Cornell can write a solid Superman story, I'd happily make that trade.

This isn't like with Batman where a supporting character can take over a book for a few months, and there's still tons of other great books starring Batman to read.

Superman hasn't had a decent story to his name since Johns' Braniac arc. It's been years.

Oh no, I totally understand, I'm just not a fan of Superman. I like his rogues gallery, but not him. Luthor's quest for the Black Ring energy has been entertaining and a nice spin off out of Blackest Night. I may pick up 900, just because it's issue 900, but I have no plans to continue buying it on a regular basis.

My sarcasm meter is a bit broken today, but regardless, they could do some fun things with it if they keep him like that for awhile.

And I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but Adventure just didn't do anything for me this month. The only Academy student I'm interested in at all is Glorith, I just can't care about the rest of them.

Firestorm has been kind of MIA from Brightest Day for a few issues, but he did show up briefly in GLC on Qward while the GLC and Thunderers were fighting the Sinestro Corp.

Huh?

Martin delivered a perfect example of comic book storytelling and single handedly made the sequence a comedy masterpiece.

What's sarcastic about that?

Didn't know if you were poking fun at me, no one really talks Spidey on here, so I didn't know your opinion on the book. No biggy.

But yeah, it was a great moment in the book, and like I said, if they keep that subplot going it will be fun to see what they can come up with that ties into it.

I did think the ending was a bit lame, since Spidey had a pretty similar monologue just a few issues back.

Seriously. I could not hate that indy style more for Spidey. Zero sense of action and severely deformed faces that change panel to panel.

Man I couldn't disagree more, I love the art in Spidey. It's such a nice change of pace from the other books I read and I think fits what they've been doing plot wise nicely.

Nevermind, something far more positive....Uncanny X-Force is brilliant again. Cannot wait for the Archangel spinoff.

Thank you letting me know this came out! Ordered the first three hardcovers on a whim a while back, and it was such a good decision.

I really need to find a new comic book store so I can start picking up single issues again.

He's a pretty lame character however, no matter what he looks like. The only point of interest is that he was involved in the Death of Superman, and even that was a pretty bad story.

Cheers mate, I'll have a look for it tomorrow.

You NEED this book.

Side topic: (reposted from the Dungeons & Dragons thread)

I'm brainstorming a multi-session DC heroes campaign for my group back home. The tone should be fun, zany, heroic. Nothing grim and gritty at all.

They are a mix of comic folks, and people with a very basic comics background so I want to show off the DCU. Anyone up for throwing some ideas out there?

So far its about the Phantom Stranger approaching the heroes, and telling them of a plan of the Lords of Chaos to gather artifacts from Magic, Science and the Lost World (a combo of both) to bring about the next age of things (think Mayan calendar) with a spin of Chaos.

It will send them to various locations in the DCU to try and stop the agents of Chaos from acquiring the objects, while taking them on a tour of the DCU proper.

Threw this preliminary brainstorm together just now on the iPad. Any suggestions? Villains to use in each location?
