He's a pretty lame character however, no matter what he looks like. The only point of interest is that he was involved in the Death of Superman, and even that was a pretty bad story.

Yes.

Ideally we'd never see Doomsday again. Unfortunately I can't get that time bullet from Final Crisis to kill the moron that thought the design / story was a good idea in the 90's.

You really couldn't quantify how disappointed I was when I finally saw "the thing that killed Superman". So f*cking lame.

Unfortunately the damned character keeps coming back. BARF!

Avengers Acadmey continues to be awesome, you would think Pym would at least password protect his interdimensional resurrection machine.

Batgirl > Supergirl
Batman Inc > Outsiders, well it had the Eradicator.
Crap out of the toilet > Superman
Red Robin > Superboy

Cornell's Luthor, I mean Action Comics > all Bat books combined. ;)

But with Batwoman on the horizon it's all up for grabs.

I hope you failed to include Knight and Squire in this, otherwise you could not be more wrong.

I'm so happy to see that Gillen and McKelvie are on a book together again. I'm lovin' Generation Hope so far. This month was pretty bad ass, Hope took down the ice queen proper.

I don't necessarily hate the design but it is extremely 90s, and could probably use some kind of update.

The stuff in the Superman: Doomsday trade gives the character some more meat, but it still isn't that really all that great.

Johns has proved to be a master at revamping villains, and he's worked on Superman in the past. I say give him a 6 issue arc that births the "New Doomsday."

Either that, or just don't use him anymore. For some reason a lot of people don't realize it, but Superman does actually have a ton of great villains. Some of them hardly ever get any use. Mr. Mxyzptlk alone could provide enough material for a writer's entire run. Yet, he's barely ever seen anymore.

Yeah, I was inspired at one point by Doomsday and that one site where they redesign comic characters for fun to take a shot at redesigning Doomsday; but after some noodling I realized that I was just drawing a bulkier monster from Mimic. :p

Out of curiosity if anyone read the original Crossgen stuff, how much do these reboots/v2s tie in? It seemed like Sigil had a stronger tie to something previous than Ruse did though.

Haven't yet read Ruse, but Sigil is related to the first in spirit only.

The first series was a futuristic sci-fi story starring a tough space marine/soldier type (Samandahl Rey) and the new series is about a high school girl (Samantha Rey) that travels through time.

I have to admit I'm more interested in Ruse, as I liked that book much more when CrossGen was around, but I haven't had time to go by my comic shop yet. :/

Would that be a good place to jump onto? I'm going to give superman a go again.

Honestly stay away from the Superman book.

Either grab Cornell's brilliant Lex Luthor run in Action Comics, or jump in with number 900 when Supes returns to the book.

I'd suggest the Luthor issues as they seem to be wrapping up in 900.

Didn't Chris Roberson turn around the JMS arc towards greatness? The guy can write good stuff, his DC 1.000.000 two parter arc in Superman/Batman was really nice and I hear good things about iZombie...

God no. In the latest issue the Flash found a headpiece in a giant crater that fell from the sky undamaged...then put it on his head to see what it would do because he was curious!?!

Fuck no. Stay away. Plus Eddy Barrows is a hack artist IMO.

You're right about his Superman/Batman issues though. Excellent stuff.

The problem is on Superman he's just scripting from JMS' IDIOT PLOTS.

Ugh!

I'll see if I can track them down.

So X-Force 5.1 is an actual new issue? Or is it just a catch up type book? My LCS was out of it when I got there today, don't know if I should bother going to another one a bit further away or just not worry about it if it isn't an actual continuation of the current story.

New issue but the start of a new arc so its deemed a good jumping on point.

Uncanny X-Force #5 started a new story arc, #6 is the continuation of that arc, and #5.1 is a stopgap, standalone filler story. And honestly, the whole "Point One" gimmick is pretty damn stupid when it's being used like this. Does Amazing Spider-Man or Invincible Iron Man need a jumping on point for new readers? Sure. Does a comic that's been out for five issues, most of which can be tracked down pretty easily, need a new jumping on point? Yeah, and it happened five issues ago.

You NEED this book.

I wasn't able to find the Uncanny X-Force book at my comic store, and they're really good for getting the new releases out. I am in Australia though, so the book may not be out yet.

They have a fair chunk of normal issues that I could go back through though, so is The Apocalypse Solution a good starting point or should I look for some issues prior to that for back story?

Yeah, The Apocalypse Solution is just fine for jumping on. It shows the new team and is a good place to hop on even if you haven't read any X-Force previously.

Unfortunately every .1 has been across the board fantastic so far, so....

My comments have little to do with the quality of these stories and everything to do with the necessity of the "Point One" branding. Did Uncanny X-Force, a brand new series with five issues out, honestly need a #5.1? Especially since last week Marvel reprinted the first three issues under one cover for just $5?

I say thee nay.

EDIT: And that WW costume is better than the "wears a bulletproof vest" that was rumored but still pretty horrible. Too much latex fetish.

Yep I made a thread about it earlier. DC's release schedule for it's big name books has really gone to hell in the past few months.

Eh. I've decided to ditch everything except Batman Inc. anyway. Johns' superhero stuff has devolved into garbage this year. I'm done with Green Lantern and The Flash, sadly.

Man, for a filler issue, UXF 5.1 was stellar IMO. Revisited my favorite period of X-Men history.

Australia X-men Über alles!

You know thinking about it, UXF works so well for me because he can revisit that feeling of the X-Men without it feeling like crap nostalgia. I think I've read the run of UXF 6 times already.

Sorry to hear Johns isn't doing it for you, Birdie. While I admit GL needs to settle back into something that isn't War of the Light, I still enjoy his characters. And Flash has been amazing, especially the last issue with the cycle guy.

Just thought it should be mentioned in here that in honor of St Patrick's Day, both Comixology and the DC store are selling all digital issues of Green Lantern and Green Arrow books for 99 cents. This includes all issues of Blackest Night, looks like, even ones crossing over into otherwise unrelated series.

The ad says "only on the 17th," but the prices are still up for now.

Well Flash is over in May anyway so you won't be missing much there. I've also dropped most of the Batbooks as well, just Batman Inc and Dark Knight (when it actually comes out). Tomasi's run on B&R has been less than stellar to date and the main Batman book hasn't done much for me either.
I'm still digging GL, but once War of GL is over I'm dropping Emerald Warriors because it's been forgettable as well.

I'm gonna be sad to see Brightest Day end, it's gone from being bad to one of my favorite books.

I did actually like that issue.

Hm.

Actually no, I haven't been reading Batgirl. I was really looking forward to Batwoman, but the constant delays have really killed my interest in it. Really I'm getting fed up with DC's inconsistent publishing schedule lately with a lot of the books I read (Flash, GL, Batman Inc, Batman Dark Knight).

We'll always have Legion though.

You need to read batgirl and red robin - they put everything that isn't batman inc to shame

Wholeheartedly agree, especially since Fabian Nicieza took over Red Robin.

And Tim don't worry about delays. If it's not part of the fun comics gives you, it's not worth it. I don't even care what comes out every week, or what week it was due anymore. That set me free from all of the delay nonsense.

This is not good to hear when I'm trying to spend less on monthlies and not more.

Finally got all caught up with Brightest Day thanks to eBay. Looking forward to the end. It started a little slow and I stopped reading it for a few weeks but I went through the last 12 issues in the past couple of days.

And Batman related, I dropped pretty much all the Bat books. I'll stick with Inc. and I'm going to give B&R a little more time just because I love Damian so much. I have a few issues of Batgirl I've collected but haven't read them. Kind of want to start from the beginning with hers and the Red Robin series but between Batman, Detective Comics, and recent B&R, I've been a little down on the Bat family.
