The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I knew nothing about JLA Classified, didn't even read any previews or anything, but when I saw those covers I did a quick check... issue #2 features a JLA of Batman's design? NOW I'm interested...

DETECTIVE COMICS #800 - Aftermath of War ZZzzzz, I'm really curious to see what Oracle's loss is going to do and if it'll really be played up...
SUPERMAN BATMAN #13 - The world of Superman/Batman baby! Bow down!
ASTONISHING X-MEN #6
AVENGERS #503 - Ugh, but it's the trainwreck syndrome man... I just gotta see it.
EXILES #54
TOMB OF DRACULA #2 - Hey it's got Blade in it... not movie Blade... but Blade nonetheless.... Man I wish movie Blade could get a "good" comic book.
UNCANNY X-MEN #452

Maybe:
JLA CLASSIFIED #1
MAJESTIC #4
HULK AND THING HARD KNOCKS #3 - So the Hulk actually LOST that fight against the thing? Uh oh....

8bit

Knows the Score
No way. Last week was one of the better weeks recently. Planetary & We3 are 2 of the best books currently being published, let alone the rest of last week's haul.
This week, JLA & Y-The Last Man(especially after than cliffhanger) are the highlights.

darien, buy JLA classified. you'll love it.

DETECTIVE COMICS #800 : wonder if bats is gonna take care of a baby now...
HARD TIME #10
JLA CLASSIFIED #1
MAJESTIC #4 (Of 4)
SUPERMAN BATMAN #13
Y THE LAST MAN #28

and i'll probably buy sleeper.

p.s marvel and avengers suck.

Well, this week is going to be totally freakin' awesome.

Y the Last Man #28
Astonishing X-Men #6
Ultimate Fantastic Four #12
Ultimate Spider Man #68

So, that's two "totally awesome" and two "not bad" which bring things down to a "kinda awesome". Then we throw in the first manga selection:

Lupin III Vol. 2 #2

Things continue to hover around the "kinda awesome" point...until the two-fisted finale:

Here Is Greenwood Vol. 1
Planetes Vol. 4 No. 1

WHAM! Suddenly the awesome meter spikes in the red! The sheer awesome power of those two volumes can scarcely be measured. Gentlemen, we have achieved totally freakin' awesome!

For those of you who are wondering, Here Is Greenwood is 80s shoujo manga about wacky boarding school hijinx (which spawned a truly entertaining six volume OVA series) and Planetes is near-future hard SF about debris collectors in orbit and a subplot involving a manned mission to Jupiter. It pistol whips virtually everything else in the manga section. If you're a hater, it will single-handedly change your mind about Japanese comics. Even Nomo grudgingly admits to liking it.

I can't find a pic of Planetes Vol. 4 No. 1 larger than a postage stamp, but here's the cover art for Here is Greenwood.

Trust me, it's fantastic.

Edit: Sleeper Season 2 #5 (of 12)? Hot damn! Even more awesome!

Also, I forgot to mention the sale I went to at my local comic shop this weekend. Crazy Andy started discounting all back issues at 10% per day, and yesterday was when they hit 90% off. I walked out with virtually all of Mage: The Hero Discovered and The Hero Defined, not to mention tons of random stuff: old Harvey comics (Richie Rich and Jackie Jokers 4 Lyfe!), some Oh! My Goddess issues, 50s war comics, you name it. I'm guessing I walked out with 60 comics or so for all of 23 bucks. It was glorious.

DETECTIVE COMICS #800 - Lapham back-up story!
INTIMATES #1 - Big maybe. Joe Casey is very hit or miss, but the premise sounds brilliant.
JLA CLASSIFIED #1 - Welcome back to JLA, Grant Morrison.
QUESTION #1 (Of 6) - I'm telling you guys, this is going to be good.
SLEEPER SEASON TWO #5 (Of 12) - Always solid.
ASTONISHING X-MEN #6 - Solrac doesn't know what he's missing.
AVENGERS #503 (#88) - A big grown at the big reveal.

All in all, a great week!

Not the best week in the world, but at least I'll be able to buy my comics and a new PS2 without worrying about going broke.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I haven't finished reading the new Avengers book yet but my first thoughts on reading the beginning exposition are... I'll be damned the Dark Phoenix'd
Wanda
I mean that's all I could think of while I'm reading Dr. Strange's speech....

Some quick thoughts:

JLA Classified #1: Disappointing. It should've been called "Ultramarines Classified" instead, since that's the real focus here; the JLA is only given casual reference, and (aside from the cover) doesn't even make an appearance. And I'm sick and damn tired of Morrison's portrayal of Batman; he's either a smug, overconfident jerk with a superiority complex, or he's a sarcastic, cynical recluse who doesn't take his work with the JLA seriously. It just doesn't work for me. And while the idea of Batman having
a "sci-fi closet"
is quaintly charming in its own way, the idea soon crosses into the realm of the absurd. McGuinness's art was stellar, though, and unless I'm mistaken it seems he's toned down some of his more ridiculous anatomical tendencies.

Superman/Batman #13: Predicatble. Oh my, I never would've guessed that
they pulled the ol' switcheroo, and Supergirl's still alive.
But what's to stop Darkseid from
coming after her again when he gets free and finds out she's still alive?
I guess that plot hole doesn't really matter. This whole arc was a bit underwhelming, to be honest; Loeb's story was fairly linear and predictable, and Turner's art (while still nice) was fairly sketchy and rough.

qucik impressions.

superman/batman #13. utter crap. jeph loabis a hack and i cant wait till he's off the god damn book. here's a clue jack, the silver age was 30 YEARS AGO!!!!!

JLA classified#1. this is superhero comics at it's finest. it's like morrison never left the JLA.
is warmaker 1 dead? i hope not. i love how morrison treats batman in the JLA. it's great and it fits perfectly.

JLA Classified was hilarious. Only Grant Morrison can do goofy Silver Age-type stories without them being too goofy...
