GREEN LANTERN REBIRTH #3 (Of 6)

This season has been kicking my ass ... the only blemish so far is that origin with the radioactive biting homo's(?)

ASTONISHING X-MEN #7

I really dig Richard Morgan's novels but this black widow mini series is kind of eh. I'll stick with it till the end. I think i'd like it more if Maleev was drawing it.. his Black Widow ::drool::

I'll pick it up because I feel like I have too

If I had mind-wiped you, you would have been buying some Gemstone Disney comics on occasion, so I think you're safe from my end. ;)

Briefly:

Sleeper Vol. 2 #7 - Woo!

Wonder Woman #211 - Rucka definately helped pick up the pace last issue, so I reckon I'm in for another storyline.

Astonishing X-Men #7 - Jos Whedon, you're my hero.

New Thunderbolts #3 - Kurt Busiek, you write solid if not overly inspired comic books.

Queen and Country #28 - Wait, wasn't this supposed to come out last week?

FnordChan, who also has the notion that a new issue of Girl Genius was due out right about now

January, in X-Men #166.

Sorry nomo, but nothing you say can justify the purchase of Wizard. I'm disappointed.

Well, since somebody at MillarWorld kindly typed up the entire article (see DC All-stars topic), I guess I won't need to purchase it after all. :)

Credibility saved!

Boooo! X-Statix is one of the best books of the past few years, and Milligan writes interesting stories if nothing else.

See, I knew the Internet would prove useful for something eventually!

Yeah, but you still thought about it. Don't worry - you can fully redeem yourself by picking up some manga at the shop this week...

I never have and never will buy Wizard, but I have been known to pick up discarded issues the comic shop owner has in a free/take it bin. It's okay, maybe, but I can't see paying $5 or whatever for it. :p

Just read AXM 7

Fucking awesome it is, some of the one liners are just beautiful

Colossus is thinking to himself about hearing Cyclops's voice, Kitty is thinking about Colossus and Wolverine has one thought, "I really like beer" :D

Ben from F4 says, "Didn't they come up with a cure for your kind?" referring to Wolvie, "You got a problem with mutants?" and Ben replies, "I meant Canadians" haha

Then there is a liner about Jonah Jameson kissing Spidey

I haven't read all my books from the last two weeks yet but I did just read Identity Crisis 7... and let me say this.

When I got back in to comic collecting a bit back I decided I wouldn't by any of these special group books, or crossover books because generally what happens at the end means absolutely DICK for the individual characters in their own respective books. Sure a new villian might pop up again at some point but for the most part nothing changes. So I didn't pick up the DC/Marvel cross JLA/Avengers... well that and because all the noses look weird on the covers. IC was advertised as something that would shock you to the core... and here is the final issue in what has admittedly been an interesting whodunit.

WHAT THE FUCK DC!!!!! THIS IS THE FUCKIN ENDING YOU COME UP WITH. YOU'VE JUST FUCKED ME IN THE ASS....AGAIN!!!!! NO MORE GODDAMIT NO MORE!!!

<ahem> Rant over... hopefully I'll enjoy the rest of the stuff I picked up today.

EDIT:

Rest of this weeks thoughts...

Batman: Gotham Knights 60: This Ivy vs. Uma Thurman... now don't get me wrong I liked Kill Bill... but this Ivy kicks Uma's ass. ;) I enjoyed Hush.. I know alot of you didn't and we'll leave it at that... however he's been just kinda drifting in and out of storylines in the background since the big one...BTW why is someone where O's uniform in this story? What did I miss? Anyway this story drops a pretty big twist, and dammit I'm actually interested in where this one is goin...

Birds of Prey 77: Well....Bab's is going off the deep end... but hey at least I'm curious about the extent of Harvest's powers.

Green Lantern: Rebirth 3: Ganthet vs. Kilowog? Poor Kilowog... nicely drawn and Really Kilo had NO chance. Well the origin of Parallax is... interesting... I'm usually not a fan of retconning but well I so love the Hal Jordan character... and I like the explanation for the yellow impurity issue... and Jordan's various acts over the years. Somebody at least did a bit o homework... and what a way to bring back a favorite Hal villan... But really my biggest beef is that this gets Hal off the hook totally... my enjoyment of the Parallax character was that it was Hal gone off the deep end, drunk with power and determined to remake things the way he saw fit... a faulty human. Now... oh well it wasn't his fault.... bah . <sigh> Oh well guess I can't have it both ways if I want Jordan back as a GL.

Robin 133: God I still hate this art... and it's too convenient that Penguin has relocated to the same friggin town... but hey I guess Batgirl and Robin are gonna need a major villan, well at least until one of their own is created...

Wolverine 23: Jesus Christ this art hurts my soul... and some of the stuff they have Wolverine doing(at least written that he did), so meh... oh well at least there's only two more parts to this crazy storyline... oh and don't get me started on Ms. Von Strucker... wtf.

Wonder Woman 211: Now here is a storyline with potential. I bought all the back issues to the current storyline so I'd be up on it... we know she'll heal eventually but it'll be interesting to see the path they take her on to get there...

Richard Dragon 8: This book is a guilty pleasure... somehow the absurdity of the fact that this character helped to train Bruce and the attempt at martial arts background somehow keeps me reading it...and well.. let's just keep it at that....

X-men 165: Holiday issue... X-men generally has nice warm feeling holiday issues and this one pretty much fits that bill... it fiddles with current continuity a bit... but what else is new. Nice touch to slide Magneto and Charles in there.

Astonishing 7: I really like Beer... my god that line in context is the funniest thing I've read in quite a while... umm I have no idea what happened... thanks.

I don't think Hal gets off completely-- I think he's still going to have to answer to the fact that it was his own darkside running Parallax, and not just the entity itself. But I am happy. Hal has been my favorite hero since I was 10 or so, and I hated what happened to him in Emerald Twilight.

Other books of interest:

JLA: Loving this one, too. Weaponers of Qward, CSA, and more! I loved Busiek's Avengers and I think I'm going to love his JLA for quite some time. Hope he's on for the long term.

Ultimates 2 #1: Just got to the shop and got my copy-- and I was pleasantly surprised. After the fisrt volume fizzled at the end, I was thinking that this might be so-so-- but I really liked it. My guess is that this publicity problem is going to lead the Ultimates to be non-funded and operate independently, eventually.

Heh heh. A couple years ago, a local comic book shop was going out of business and was getting rid of a lot of their comics for chump prices. I remember walking out with over 60 Scrooge McDuck comic books. Good times. I still read them to this day. :)

Everybody has a dark side.... sure his character will play up personal guilt for a bit... and the JLA some members will probably still be edgy around him... but I give all of that... maybe 6-7 mos.

Yeah. And maybe Batman for a while after that.

Bruce probably permanently... he seems to be one of the few characters were the writers try to go a good job of not letting things like that slip by. Bruce'll still ask him for help if he thinks it's necessary, but trust? Nyah...

Getting Bruce's trust is like winning the lottery. Seriously.

You've got MORE chance of winning the lottery... unless your a little kid with a trouble past... orphan, and some fighting or athletic skills, etc... ;)

I have a question about Astonishing X-Men 7 (I guess I could just go to MillarWorld but, eh)

Who was that kid who killed himself? Was he introduced in Morrison's run? Was he in Whedon's run with the 'Antidote'? I've never seen him around before

oh well, all in all it was another great issue. I'm really enjoying Joss' writing more than I should be

He's appeared before in Whedon's run. It was the child who was cured by Ord while Cyclops and the team were off getting trapped in the labs. Prior to that, he was accused of having a crush on Kitty Pryde by one of his female classmates. I don't have my issues nearby, so I can't give you a direct reference, but I believe it was #3 or #4.

Can somebody just explain to me what the hell happened in 7? I feel like I missed an issue... but I read the last issue.. I thought.... umm who was the blind Indian chick.... and umm who was she talking too? It's now become way too easy for anybody to turn off the safeties in the danger room....

I feel a little lost in AXM 7 too but I have little-to no short term memory, I'll probably read Whedon's arc over the break.

Slightly OT, but I managed to pick up Ocean 2 and 3. All I can say is Wow, This is a really great read.
The Doors corporation, and the scene with all the coffins [/spoilers] really freak me out.

Can anyone recommend any Ellis stuff? Is he planning on doing any more Global Frequency stories?
