Tomorrow the big bombshells drop in DC. Omac #6(will Alfred be an OMAC? Is Despero behind it all?), JLA #119(Crisis of Conscience finale, Infinite Crisis begins!), AOS #644(Fallout from JLA).

This will be a hefty week full of revelations!

And in bonus news, Comics Continuum has new previews for DC's shipment next week.

http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0509/27/dcfirsts.htm

Check out the new Robotech comic, looks great and the one-eyed man is General Edwards after all, guess this is a retelling of the latter portion of Sentinels, very interesting looking and good art!

-edit-

Oh and my list

Adventures of Superman #645

magic is rampant now and the seven deadly sins are unleashed. also, the golden scarab landed in el paso, texas so we are gonna get a new blue beetle.

Looking at the cover to Omac #6 if that's the cover at DC's website and reading the writeup answered that question pretty obviously I think.

Huge week. I've been pretty disappointed with OMAC, though. First, all of the crappy fill-in art, then that crossover nonsense. A big WOW to the JLA spoiler, though. DC means business.

Hooray for Showcase Presents, too. They're a heck of a lot cheaper than the DC Archive Editions! I can't wait for the JLA volumes.

Is that Dread Dormammu on the cover of Defenders #3? Man that takes me back to the days of Dr. Strange when I was young.... Strange... Dread Dormammu. ... the Mindless Ones...

Haha - the best part of Yotsuba is reading it on the bus and scaring everybody away because I'm pissing myself laughing. :lol

That thing with the bird eye, the toad, and the teddy bear.

:lol :lol :lol

Does anyone on this board buy comics on a regular (at least twice a month) basis that are mostly other than superhero comics? I'm not looking to pick a fight between reading tastes, and I still have much love for pre-90's superheroes, I'm just askin' because it seems like week after week after week it's the same 15 books on people's pull lists. I read a wide range of comics, but usally Vertigo, Dark Horse and Fantagraphics get the bulk of my money. Anyone else? Just wondering.

That's it for me - looks like Crisis + New Avengers week. ^_^

Oh and those Showcase Presents' look fantastic! I may be talked into them.

For me, superheroes are about a third, maybe half of my comics buying (JSA Classified being my current favorite). The other half is Disney comics. Beyond that, I get Conan and whatever else appeals to me, usually older comics (recently bought a 1943-44 Batman Daily Comic Strip book at my comics shop for $6).

PREVIEWS VOL XV #10
(No Uncle Scrooge this week?! Must be next week. RAWR!!)

I read Ex Machina, Fell, and Desolation Jones monthly. I've tried to push these titles onto other people on the board.

Vertigo series' like The Losers & Fables, I read in TPB. I read Human Target monthly up until its cancellation mainly because the title needed help with its monthly sales.

Over the past month, I've purchased Tricked (Alex Robinson) & Scott Pilgrim Vols. 1 & 2 (Bryan Lee O'Malley).

The reason why I never list non-superhero titles is because I wait for positive reviews/word of mouth before I purchase (which was exactly the case for Scott Pilgrim). Some titles, like anything by Clowes, Robinson, Ware, Tomine, I grab as soon as the OGNs/collections come out. I'm sure this is the same case for many of the posters here.

From your post, it seems as though you'd like some non-superhero chatter in the weekly comic book threads. If so, please participate! Recommend one of the titles coming out in that particular week, or at the very least, post your list of titles. It's difficult to achieve any kind of diversity if you don't take the effort to pitch in.

Yup, that's Dormammu. If you're a fan of Strange & Dormammu, I'd definitely recommend Defenders; they both play major roles in the mini-series. Giffen & DeMatteis don't exactly play the heroes straight though, as you might already know from their JLI stuff.

Since I can't post my own topics yet -

Spoiler for this week's JLA -

HUGE HUGE development in the new JLA.

Get out your tissues.

I can't even bring myself to post it just in case someone really doesn't want to know.

I'll PM you if you really need to know.

Nomo what timeline is the current Defenders book falling in? Is this suppose to be current Marvel timeline or past stuff?

The JLA spoiler is so strange considering we had this whole
burning martian issue not THAT long ago.... now he gets it under control and they off him?
.

Dumb.

I read Y The Last Man, Ex Machina, a lot fo the ABC stuff (superheroes, but different)...

Outside of sueprhero stuff, most of my favorite books are gone, or extremely erratic. Nothing new from Chris Ware in ages, I'm behind on Love and Rockets, Eightball is very irregular, and I haven't gotten into too many newer creators. Has James Strumm done anything lately? And someday I will read Berlin. Paul Pope is mostly missing.

Sueprhero comics are at their best since the 80's but sadly, the small press scene is for crap-- or I'm so out of touch I am missing the good stuff. PLEASE post about what interests you. Just browsing the shelves and picking up stuff if very very hit or miss.

(Oh, I like Finder, but haven't been buying new ones, just collections. And Blade of the Immortal is good, too)

FLASH #226
JLA #119
OMAC PROJECT #6 (OF 6)
SILENT DRAGON #3 (OF 6)
SUPERMAN BATMAN #22
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #524
NEW AVENGERS #11
SENTRY #1
ULTIMATE IRON MAN #4 (OF 5)
ULTIMATE SECRET #3 (OF 4)
WOLVERINE #33
WIZARD COMICS MAGAZINE INFINITE CRISIS CVR #169

I plan on getting all of these at some point, but for today, I'm only buying one:
CHRONO CODE VOL 2 GN (OF 2)
DEVIL MAY CRY 3 GN
KINGDOM HEARTS VOL 1 GN (OF 4)

i was going to skip this week, until I looked at the ship list, and its not my 1 light week of the month (heh, that's an understatement. For fuck's sake look at that list!) I'm so used to going to the shop on thursday because of school that I forgot

(1)I'm on vacation
(2)New comics come out Wednesday
(3)I actually have the money now

Now i just have to wait until twelve or so for Newbury Comics to put them on the shelf.

Oh, sure. I'd say my current pull list is about half superheroes, half everything else (including manga). In particular, Brian Vaughn and Warren Ellis's non-superhero stuff, several Oni Press titles, several of Viz's shoujo and editor's choice manga titles, and plenty more. Unfortunatly, a lot of the non-superhero titles I enjoy are published sporadically - bimonthly, quarterly, annually, whenever - so the weekly pull generally features more hero stuff than otherwise. But, hey, that's okay - like Ignatz says, superhero comics are the best they've been in years.

Like folks said, if you've got favorite non-hero titles you'd like to discuss, by all means jump in and go for it.

Oh, and Ignatz, in case you hadn't heard Finder is going web only with collected trade editions per a recent message board post by Carla Speed McNeil. On the one hand, I'll miss the single issues, but on the other hand this sounds like it'll help her sell more comics in the long run, and if more people are reading Finder, I'm all for it. Phil Foglio has done something similar with Girl Genius and I'm told it's worthing rather well for him.

As for this week's pull list:

ABC: A to Z: Tom Strong and Jack B. Quick #1 (of 6) - I dunno if I'd go out of my way to buy this - I'm a big fan of the old Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe and all, but this is a bit extraneous - but the completionist in me will find it waiting for me in my pull bag and will buy it anyway.

Jack Cross #2 - I just picked up a month's worth of comics and haven't quite gotten to the first issue yet. Doh! I'll be optamistic and assume the second issue will be worth getting. If not, Warren Ellis owes me six dollars, goddamnit.

Ultimate Secret #3 (of 4) - Of course, if I continue to put up with Ellis phoning in crap like Ultimate Secret, I reckon I'll put up with anything.

Ultimate Spider-Man #83 - After a bit of a slump Ultimate Spidey is back on an upswing, so to speak.

PS238 #13 - Another issue already? Hot damn!

Finally, two for the maybe pile:

Action Philosophers! - I was highly amused by the second issue (the All Sex Special, featuring Saint Augustine, Thomas Jefferson, and Ayn Rand), so I'm pleased to see the first issue has been reprinted. Plato! Nietzche! Bodhidharma! Oh, yeah! And, the third issue is out featuring Self-Help For Ugly Losers, with Campbell, Freud, and Jung. How can you go wrong?

Dramacon Vol. 1 (of 3) - American attempts to create manga are a pretty mixed bag - some folks get it, some folks don't, and it's usually not quite what you'd want it to be either way. However, the rabid fanboy in me finds the notion of a romance comic set at an American anime convention to be pretty freakin' irresistable, so, wary as I am, I'll probably give this a go.

I really *like* Ultimate Secret. I mean *a lot*.

No Planetary or anything, but I love the stripped-down nature of the Ultiamteverse and Secret plays into that very well.

There are like two or three good Amerimanga out there from Tokyopop and the rest should've stayed as webcomics.

I like the setting and the idea just fine, but the pacing is about to freakin' kill me. Get on with it already, Warren!

I totally agree. Whoever leaked this rumor on Millarworld was definitely exaggerating a bit.

Don't worry, even if it did kill him, he will just come back as bloodwynd, then back as the manhunter within 2 years

DC wins of course. God I wish there was a comic shop nearby so I can get that showcase green lantern. Damn it all there isn't a shop in sight. :(

Havent' made it to the shop yet, but I got my hardcover of Identity Crisis:) What a great collection, very vibrant and beautiful art. Plus the story just really grips you.

The Showcase collections are really nice, by the way. Like Marvel Essentials, they're a lot of old comics in b/w, for cheap. But they're a little longer, a little cheaper, and much, much better quality printing and paper.

The very early days of DC's Silver Age were not nearly as good as the mid-60's, but for $10 a pop, I still recommend these. The GL stories are really good, the Superman ones are hit and miss, but include some real milestone stories.

I can't wait for some of the other collections, Looks like they're going to do some books that wouldn't merit a hardcover, like Jonah Hex and Metamorpho.

Tama, did you see the coupon for the free Archer's Quest hardcover with purchase of the IC hardcover?

Picked up that Tomb Raider book. I forgot this was a Joe Jusko project and I loves me some Joe Jusko. :q

Also snagged Newtype so Fenegi can pay his rent, and so I can look at cartoon boobies from Godannar; and a Catwoman Microman figure that has been taunting me for months.

Next week the comic pimp will possibly have my precious Artemis from Phelios. OH YES!

Yuppers, sent mine in yesterday, that was the final selling point for the HC:)
