No, the American versions aren't better. They just have this epic feeling to them because of the way Macek hacked around them. When you break it down, both the Japanese and English versions of Mospeada and Macross are largely intact with only the minor details and a few key concepts fully changed. The difference is that the Japanese version doesn't have the problems that cropped up due to the mixing of the series while the English version of the show has that epic quality with the plot holes. There's a degree of equivalency to them but the American versions aren't better with the exception of Southern Cross where the Japanese version is probably a bajillion times better. I'm also only talking about the TV series themselves and not any of the extensions like the books or the Sentinels.

On another Robotech board a while back there was a post about a guy who was stationed in Japan, and that the base he was on ran Robotech. He had bumped into a Japanese man who was a fan of Macross and had also watched Southern Cross and Mospeada, but had seen Robotech when the base played it. When questioned about it the fan told him that Macross was basically unchanged, the changes to Mospeada were interesting/strange, but what they did to Southern Cross? "Well, they finally made a version of Southern Cross that made sense!" :lol

While what show is better is debatable I can't see the problem of enjoying both . :)

There is one thing that the Robotech version does do better than the original Japanese versions of the show and that's the music. The Main theme is classic and a lot of the pieces played in the show are just fabulous even if they were reused a bit too much.

I EMPHATICALLY believe this news!

Blackace, you are wrong....you have not met Carl Macek in person to pick his brain. I have, and can tell you Shouta's comments couldn't be anymore on the money.

A few of the pages from the Prelude to Shadow Cronicles that takes place before the new series. Looks alright, good to see a Breetai-ish figure:)

LOL Breetai-ish that guy is as far from Breetai as you can get. He's Roy Fokker’s nemesis from the global war, leader of ghost squadron. He hates Rick Hunter because he's the protégé of Roy. As well as the fact that he was at the Big gun when Rick flew in and saved Lisa. He watched them fly out as he was buried under the rubble. That's how he got his face half removed. He hates the Zentradi by the way.

That can't be T.R. Edwards, I thought this took place after the Sentinels run and Edwards rather clearly died at the end there haha.'

-edit-

I didn't really pay attention to the action as much as the art....maybe that's a scene from the latter Sentinels arc when Edwards was stealing the ship.....odd......

I don't think the Sentinels happened, or rather it happened the way the novels tells it. You are right though Edwards was dead at the end of the Sentinels, but judgeing from all the pictures I've seen of him he looks a lot like the guy in the Shadow War poster.

Edit:

I just realized that the comics take place before the Shadow War so it very well could still be Edwards, and the Sentinel novels could still be true. My first post was written while I was under the empression that the comics were and adaptation of the up coming series.

Dammit, I misread this as a new Robocop and got all excited.

You got excited for a new Robocop? If I saw news of a new Robocop I might pour gasoline on myself and light a match...
