Injustice 5 had some good back and forth, but I wanted to see what happened after 4 and we didn't get any of that.

Superior Spider-Man has been on the top of my pile and I'm just getting tired of it.
Having Peter there for every issue seems like the only way Dan Slott got the twist approved. My biggest question is what will happen to Doc Ock at the end? I can't imagine they'll get rid of Doc Ock. Maybe give him a clone and put his mind in that.

So, about THE GODDAMN BATMAN....

I tried to stay strong, but I just couldn't. The temptation was too much and I caved in. It wasn't flawless but goddamn if that wasn't a real ride of thrills to read. I mean, the very moment the faces were shown, I felt genuinely creeped the fuck out. But like with the whole Night of the Owls-incident, the journey easily outranked the destination. Yes, the ending did sucker-punch me but not in a way I had anticipated, still not sure if like or not :D Nevertheless, I'll still be buying this day 1 because the whole beginning of the arc was imho brilliant. I wonder, how long DC will take time to publish this? :p

Not sure what Larsen was talking about in regards to Image being unable to publish that page of Ant without it being put on the porn shelf. They publish Saga (a comic that has shown penetration) and that doesn't show up in the porn section. Hell they published Black Kiss 2 and that basically is porn.

They are coming out with this in March, I would assume it has penetration...

So I am sitting here at work basically mentally drooling over going home to read Injustice 5 and re-reading New Avengers 1-3. I've got other stuff to catch up on, but FUCK NA is so mind-blowingly good.

Have you read Butcher Baker yet? If not, DO IT.
I think I read some of that when it came out but it fell off the radar for me. Next thing I know Casey and Hutchinson have fallen out and the thing got cancelled. Thanks for reminding me tho, gotta check this out again.

Vengeance
Yeah, he did some great interviews for it but Vengeance didn't take. Tried it again for the Gillen/McKelvie YA series but it still did nothing for me.

I wonder what this series will be about...

Is that sarcasm? It's actually about an ex-superhero trying to reintegrate into society. So he's pretty much completely inept at relationships and, obviously, sex.

Casey himself said it was a planned ending. It turned out to be an 8-issue series, though the last issue was delayed quite a few times. I'd suggest you pick up the hardcover, as it's a nicely put-together book.

Hawkeye 1-7
Luther Strode Vol. 1
Flex Mentallo
Unwritten Vol. 1
Unwritten Vol. 2
Astonishing X-Men Vol. 1
Astonishing X-Men Vol. 2
Ultimates Vol. 1
Animal Man Vol. 1
Avengers vs. X-Men

I need to take a week off to get through this shit!

So not only is Beast going back to green, power girl getting her old costume back, but the original Stormwatch is coming back replacing the reboot team along with a few obscure Jim Starlin charecters from old DC. I wonder if by the end of the summer's trinity war they just drop the whole new 52 crap.

TBH there are things I like about new 52 but it should have been a total reboot not a half-ass one and it completly messed up all the teams history (Justice League, Stormwatch, Teen Titans, etc.) in addition to ruining and trying to overwrite Giffen's Justice League International run

So New Deadwardians came out in trade last week:

I had thought this was the strongest of last year's main Vertigo launches (didn't read Fairest as I don't read Fables, Dominique Leveau was absolutely terrible, and Saucer Country is odd) after the first issue.

I don't think the complete series is as strong, however. It benefits from good characterisation, and an agreeably period take on vampires/zombies that is always consistent. The art, however, is not particularly special, with too many flat dull backgrounds and odd faces.

The story, however, is slight. There's a lot of well crafted dialogue, but it feels as though the series rushes its conclusion; there's no time for any of it to sink in and there's too much I would like to have seen explored more thoroughly. I guess I wanted it to be more plotty, really.

How are you guys always reading and discussing comics before they release? I appreciate the spoiler tags, but it seems shady as hell.

Does comics GAF get a free pass for talking about piracy?

It's one of those things that you don't have to pirate/torrent anything if you know where to look. Most comic discussion forums with the exception of places like CBR are like this.

Fair enough. Without clicking the spoilers, it seems like folks are being very specific to the point that they've found a way to read it already.

I'm excited about tomorrow...hope it's not disappointing.

My friend let me borrow his volumes of Fables. Haven't read a comic since Y: The Last Man, which was YEARS ago, and I was looking to get back into it. I'm about two issues into Volume 2 (Deluxe Edition) and am enjoying it so far.

I'll probably be sponging off of him for a while. Didn't know dude's collection was so ridiculous until I went to his pad for once.

is there a back door to get back to old DC universe intead of new 52?

The trinity war stuff, maybe. Or something else with pandora. Or another darkseid incursion. Or more flash time magic. Or multiversity becomes a segway into the next big event "Editorial Crisis" in which the joker escapes comics and murders the dc editorial staff and the justice league sit there and watch while alfred serves tea.

This.

It really should have ended after that.

HarSon, you're in for a treat. Fables gets better and better after the first two volumes.

at least it ends very gracefully at that point. there is a clear and well written jumping off point, which i recommend harson to take advantage of when the time comes.

and you're right - the first 2 or 3 trades are good but book 4 is where things get great.

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"

Editorial crisis has already happened

It's the same deal as unauthorized magazine or artbook scans on gaming websites and blogs. People don't get in trouble for discussing that either as long as they are not bringing it to GAF directly or via links. Hell, a lot of people still post concept art that was only released in official artbooks.

Looking at a bunch of .jpgs is a shitty way to read comics anyhow.

Was looking at some of the covers for Peter David's Aquamang run.

There's some bad ass stuff like this Mignola cover:

And then there's.....this:

A bit behind the times here Comics-GAF, but does anybody read "Hell, Nebraska" or "Bedlam"? The samples on Comixology seem interesting enough but I've heard next to nothing about them, I think they're digital only so I can't check them out in a store, and they update so infrequently that I don't want to jump in only to find they're cancelled shortly thereafter or that I have to wait three months for the next issue. Are they worth picking up?

Holy hell just finished reading Batman #17.

The part with the faces had my jaw drop and I thought overall it was a great conclusion. Sure nobody dies, but I think Nightwing aside the ending indicates that the other Bat sidekicks are pissed at Bruce, perhaps that is why the title was Death of the Family?

Bedlam isn't digital only - it's definitely getting released in hard copy on something like a monthly basis.

I only read the first issue (like you, I read the Comixology sample) but wasn't really sure what to make of it. It seemed like an interesting setup for a probably not very interesting overall story, and I wasn't really sure what the intention was. An ex-serial killer wanting to help the police is an interesting premise, but presumably he would have to make sure they never found out who he is - and, if so, why would the police work with some random guy who happens to have an idea how killers think? It's not like he's The Mentalist or anything, he doesn't have any useful connections or anything.

Can't tell you anything about Hell Nebraska other than it's definitely digital only.
