even as someone who reads a lot, I can't imagine reading that much stuff and retaining any of it or enjoying it

Bro, that's only like 18 issues a week. That's easy. I've read nearly that much in one day a few times this year.
Again, no where did I say it was a hard challenge, all I said is it would increase the likelihood of stuff running together. On top of whatever comics I'm reading I also read between 120-150 books a year, so I don't think it's a difficult challenge at all.

IST order is coming today!
Man, Ferreyra's GA issues are going to be beautiful.
Nice! Post a haul picture when you get it.
Speaking about catching up with Marvel, I wonder how Mr.Luchador's reading is going. Last I remember, I think he made it past 1000 issues.
<-- this is the next issue in the order I have to read. 1085 deep! (It's only taken 18 months).
anybody doing the 1000 issue challenge? I am tempted but don't feel like writing down everything.
My Fave Five Heroes since last update

You are going to hit 3k issues by new year I can feel it.Thanks for asking! I wrote an update in the last OT, but it didn't get any replies so I wasn't sure if people were still interested. So I haven't updated since then. I'm really enjoying the transition from the 60s to the 70s though, especially as something strange happened.
There were back-to-back issues of X-Men that were REALLY worthwhile reading, which had never happened in the Reading Order up until this point. Roy Thomas and Neale Adams were on fire, and it might just be my first pairing I look out for (sadly it's short lived as X-Men is now just re-issues for 5 years).
Basically it was just a well written, well drawn multi-issue story that lead to the return of Professor X, a classic Angel Costume and Havoc; while at the same time introducing Sauron! Amazing.
Sadly while X-Men was on the upturn a lot of other issues are on the downturn.
Iron Man is largely missable and at times just plain lazy. It doesn't felt like it's progressed as a book at all in the 5/6 years it's been going, while Tony Stark's development is really thin too. He's just stuck in a rut and may as well still be fighting Communism. There was a brief moment of goodness with the return of The Mandarain who was convinced he had discovered Tony Stark was Iron Man... but a Life Model Decoy later and he was no longer convinced.
Things are looking slightly better though as there's been a callback to the LMD in the current issue I'm reading, which sees the LMD takeover Tony Stark's identity!
<-- this is the next issue in the order I have to read. 1085 deep! (It's only taken 18 months).
I haven't enjoyed Silver Surfer since they humanised him with his backstory. They took away all the mystery of the character too soon, and couldn't resist the whole 'love arch' injection that every other person in the Marvel Universe has. Also his stories are too samey, which wouldn't be a problem if they weren't just like Hulk stories where he appears, people misunderstand his motives and suddenly have to fight him.
In fact things are so bad Silver Surfer is fighting horror movie castoffs
Thor has swapped places with the Fantastic Four in regards to Cosmic Events, as he's been fighting Galactus, and the last issue of Thor I read had Galactus sit Thor down while he shared his life story. It was pretty interesting seeing a bit of background into Galactus.
Captain America has been a bit trippy. Red Skull returned with the Cosmic Cube and swapped bodies with Cap, only for MODOK to decide that nobody should have the Cosmic Cube if MODOK can't have it. So MODOK built a device to remove all the power from the Cosmic Cube... just like that. Why not.
Speaking of out of the blue... the Avengers. Everything was pretty run of the mill, even if Hawkeye is still Goliath when all of a sudden 'We've discovered Adamantium!'. ooooh nice!
Then The Vision went a bit mental, stole it and rebuilt Ultron... only to then defeat Ultron. The Vision went batshit insane during this arch, it was pretty creepy. He was walking through people, dragging them into his cold lifeless form and generally being evil. I'm suddenly very interested in The Vision. Ultron and his Scooter not so much.
Daredevil has continued to be terrible but then all of sudden Karen Page has a story arch and the next thing you know he's VOLUNTARILY removed his mask to reveal his identity to her. I mean he has to tell it's not Mike at first, but I thought that was a pretty big moment - even if the cover gave it away. I'm still not excited for Daredevil though.
Sadly it's Captain Marvel that has suffered the most since the last update. Despite him getting new powers, and a new costume and his famous Naga-Bands he's been totally hampered by being trapped in Rick Jones' body. Rick Jones. Rick. Jones.
Why do Marvel insist on trying to make Rick Jones a thing - first Hulk, then Teen Brigade, then as Bucky v2 and now as Captain Marvel's body. Why.

Sorry, cant get over the look. And Red Hulk with beard, smh.Al Ewing being on U.S.Avengers has made it go from an avoid to a must buy.
Where does the Al Ewing love come from? I'll admit I've only read a few issues from him so far but they've all been pretty average.
Yeah, it looks shit but I'll give it a chanceSorry, cant get over the look. And Red Hulk with beard, smh.
Personally I'm more interested in the characters in USAvengers than the ones in New and Sandoval not drawing the book is a major plus so I'll give it a try. Rulk does look kinda silly on the cover though lol.
I'm surprised Young Cylcops is a part of Marvel Now lol.

Have you read BPRD Plague of Frogs? It's the follow up to it.I've gotten my Shield Tablet working nicely now. A factory reset, shuffled some apps around and installed a spanking new high speed 128gig SD card. I have so much Humble Bundle Star Trek to read. Currently grabbing a load of Comixology stuff from my account.
Is BRPD Hell on Earth worth reading? I've never read it before but I fancy a look. Where do I start?

You are a legend for reading so many of those old school issues.
Great update, thanks! I definitely pay attention. I was on the fence for the Lee/Kirby FF but your review pushed me over. Ordered the first omnibus, should be here next week.
Who drew that issue with Ultron-6? Seems very Kirby-ish.
Welcome to Team Cyclops! It's fun here. We have jackets, and get to yell "JEAN!" whenever we're anguished.
That's all the time.
Your trek gives me joy. And everyone admits the bolded eventually.
He's amazing but I have given up on his Contest of Champions book.
Like Tyrant said, start with the Plague of Frogs collections if you haven't already and then onto the Hell on Earth stuff. The Multiversity reading order is a fairly useful guide for that whole range of books. Also consider reading Hellboy.I've gotten my Shield Tablet working nicely now. Literally. The book got cancelled so the last issues apparently got collapsed together into one huge issue instead of a full arc. It's dead.
He's been a bit hit-or-miss for me in ANAD but for the most part I really like his books.

Sort of sad to see his interesting books suffer so low sales without Marvel pushing them at all in promotional stuff.
I kind of want to see what he could do at DC or Vertigo where the cancellation line isn't so high but he's pretty much Marvel exclusive without having to sign a contract.
It made Night Thrasher good!CoC wasn't very interesting.
