Having no FMV sucks. :(

HAHA! that dummy didnt even build any anti-aircraft or AAPC's to negate the russian's naval power. personally i think the russians edged out the allies ever so slighty because of the subs. btu almost everything else they were equal.
edit: and having no FMV sucks it big time. imagine if starcraft had it's story cut off or something. dumbass EA. we need more of kathy wurer (sp)

Okay:

http://xwis.net/ will enable Multiplayer on all the games. TCPCom seemed to work.
Tiberian Dawn = Original game.

Otherwise:
Buggy Soviet FMV in Red Alert
TD needs to run in 640x480.
TD has some crashes.

Read, the FMVs are there...they just fucked up the programming.

It still sucks though. They need a patch.

You said that there were no FMVs before I did :)

But anyway, I read through the thread and the only thing I saw was the FMVs for the soviets didn't play in RA. Does that mean its just a glitch for that one game and the rest work fine?

P.S What ever happened to testing a game. You'd think they'd notice something simple as an FMV not working for a whole faction.

They tested it for 3 months.

Sadly, they don't have a lot of the original source code and didn't want to put a lot of effort into it.

EA killed Westwood. Don't support them by buying this product.
QFT!
Checking it out right now, but supposedly no multiplayer in C&C or RA!
And no FMV anymore. All removed. To make it fit on the single DVD.

So far:
C&C no multi
Red Alert works in Skirmish
Red Alert 2 needs Westwood chat.
Awful. No FMV, no multi? that's not C&C then. Fuck this.

I was very tempted to buy this in Futureshop today, but I've really got all the C&C I could ever want, and since I can get them all to work on XP with just a little editing it seems like a waste of money considering there aren't any FMV's, one of the best parts of the damn bloody games as it is.
The original C&C is still my favorite game in the history of ever and god damn if it isn't the best RTS ever made. Starcraft doesn't hold a candle to the glory that is the Command & Conquer series.
Now screw you EA, I want a true, GOOD sequal to C&C2. GET ON IT YOU JERKS.

How long did you save that post? Re-read the thread. Multiplayer works through 3rd-party hacks.

ALL FMV except Red Alert 1's Soviet Debreifing is in there.

READ THE FUCKING THREAD. THE FMV IS IN THERE. There is just a bug that doesn't allow the soviet debriefing in RA to play.

Do the older games run windowed or only full-screen?

Full-screen only it seems. Someone on SA was having trouble getting to run in Windowed-mode.

Basically it seems that the community is coming together to get this working more than EA has.

I expect a user-made patch for the game before the end of March.

Do you work for EA or something? I'm not buying it whether they're in there or not. Chill out.

Seeing as how that's worse than Renegade, I don't think anyone is complaining...except you.

Nah, wasn't really complaining. Just pointing it out is all.

EDIT: Does it still have the same kind of install programs gussied up for XP? I remember the first time I heard "Welcome back, Commander" and how much of a grin I had on my face at that moment.

Yeah, Westwood installers were the best. Nobody takes the time to do that now.

Those FMVs with Kari Wuhrer are so hottt. The RA2 version that I bought years ago was the collector's one with a pewter figurine and a DVD with game concept art, and all the FMVs on the DVD so you can watch them on TV.

Is it possible to play multiplayer through one-to-one IP connection, or is a third party hack required in order to play each of the games in multiplayer?

Not only are all of the FMVs there, Tiberiun Sun does have the installer FMV before the Westwood logo, and the games have the Westwood trailers. I just watch the Blade Runner one on C&C.

I just watched FMV starting up Red Alert 2 and played a multiplayer game online without needing a 3rd party hack. Where the fuck are people getting this false information?

Oh man. I was worried there for a while. No multi and no fmv would've totally killed it. Still would've bought it, of course. Bought it and cried.

What about the RA1 soviet briefings, TheMissingLink?

Just played Soviet for RA1...it played that first FMV, I beat the first mission, selected the bottom branch and was treated to only a text-message of my objectives. I take it that part should be FMV?

FMV looked a little messed up, too.

What's the space requriements for this? I saw 2 GB somewhere but is there an option to install only certain games?

All missions had text briefings and FMV.

And yes, you choose what games to install. Make is like 8GB or so.

Eh? You serious? They're using the '95 original DOS version, and not the '97 Windows re-release (with "state of the art SVGA graphics" ;) )? That would seem like an odd choice by EA, seeing how the Gold version has Windows compatibility already in (95, and 2k/xp through a patch). Unless you were talking about something else with "original game". Anyway, some screenshots...

Command and Conquer, original '95 DOS version:

Command and Conquer Gold, '97 Windows re-release:

Please tell me it looks like the second screenshot, and not the first...

It's a promotional shot for something. ;)

Red Alert 2 is one of my most favorite titles ever, I used to play this online more than 10 hours every day. Fucking shame the whole online aspect has been destroyed by cheaters and a lack of updates... :(

My favorite were the sovjets, their dreadnaughts, tanks and choppers (ground deploy!) were just so cool. I couldn't care less about what's left of Westwood right now, C&C: Generals was a small joke IMO (decent, but anything like the feel of RA).

Petroglyph are the new Westwood (Star Wars: Empire at Wa). ^^

I bought it and it looks (indeed exactly) like the first.

Man, looking back on all the great C&C titles make me remember what a horrible trainwreck Tiberian Sun was. I remember my friends waited months for that game and then discarded it within a week. Thank god RA2 came back to the series greatness.

And apparently, the inevitable patch is indeed coming up:
Hey everyone,

I understand the many threads on this board regarding the two situations noted below, so please read on, thanks.

I wanted to let you all know that we are aware of the issue viewing the FMVs from the Soviet Mission Campaign for Red Alert 1 in C&C The First Decade and will have a fix available as soon as possible. I will keep you all updated on this.

Many of you have also inquired about online/LAN play in the original C&C and Red Alert 1. As you know, these games have never officially been available to run on Windows XP and are not online/LAN playable in C&C The First Decade. We are currently looking into a few possibilities to help enable this and I will definitely bring you the latest news on this front asap.

Rest assured. this is very important to us.

Thanks.

Why EA, WHY?

Captured by Hypersnap-DX, may be it get scaled up too much in my LCD (1680x1050) that it looks like your first picture on my monitor, the captures look more like the latter.

Yes, my mistake because it is pixelated on my LCD (because of scaling up too much).

I had only really played RAII so far, only encountered occassional audio skipping and no other problems.

edit: Oh, and thanks for the screenshots.

The Obelisk of Light is the greatest single base defence building in the history of RTS'. Nothing compares the sound of one of those buggers powering up and zapping your bloody mammoth to smitheerens.
God I love that game. Love love love love love <3 Westwood how I miss you.

Hmm...I seem to have forgotten that. However I do remember the Tesla Coils...Oh man when I first ran into one of those...

Does the original .INI file work still or is there one for Decade? I used to love playing around with that for Red Alert. I made the jets drop off dogs with nuclear bite attacks :D :lol

Or giving the Spys(with the Sean Connery voice no doubt) silenced pistols. I always wondered why there was a flash animation for the spys to shoot a gun but the final version didn't allow for use. "Commanda?... For King & Country!"

Editing the ini file for Einstein to shoot tesla zaps from his hands was great too. Made him like the Emperor from Return of the Jedi. "Incredible!"

Jesus, how the hell were so many people spreading these No FMV/No multiplayer/Low-res C&C1 rumors? Just to say it again: It has all the freakin movies. There's just a bug in the Soviet videos for RA1. People have already published workarounds. I'm sure there'll be a patch soon. The lack of multiplayer is just for C&C1/RA1, and they might also get added in with a patch, and the C&C1 included is the newer/higher resolution version.

Got mine for $30 at Fry's!
