Commodore Gears Up To Re-Enter Game Industry
Yeahronimo Media Ventures, owner of the Commodore license, has announced its intention to return the brand to gaming. Yeahronimo will work with the Content Factory to form a new company, called Commodore Gaming, that produces software and hardware to exploit its back catalog of retro games.

Yeahronimo acquired the Commodore license early in the year, and is only now announcing its plans for the brand. Content Factory will contribute 18 million Euros ($21.62 million USD) to the venture, 6 million of which is payment for a 49% interest in the company and 12 million in cash to be paid out over the course of five years.

The new company will produce standalone TV devices similar to the wildly successful Atari and Pac-Man self-contained units, as well as software packages akin to Intellivision Lives or Atari Anthology. Furthermore, the Commodore Games label will produce original game licenses as a more traditional games publisher.

"The business will be developed in three phases," said Yeahronimo CEO and President Ben van Wijhe. "Initially, the focus will be on exploiting the numerous existing C64 retro game licenses through plug-and-play, mobile and handheld devices. The second phase will be to create a range of specialised gaming hardware products and accessories."

"The third phase will be to work with Commodore's existing partners to issue new game licenses under the Commodore brand name, focusing primarily on the mobile and handheld market in addition to the PC and console market, which have its stronger licenses."

California games please...thanks

Yes! Of course, I already have pretty well every C-64 game ever produced, but no more *GRONNNK GRONNNNNK* loading noises from my 1541 drive would nice.

Impossible Mission
Raid Over Moscow
Winter Games
Summer Games
Desert Fox

These and a few others would make me weep with joy.

is that even possible? Aren't there tens of thousands of C64 games? I loved C64 though. LOGO was pure sex :D

Seven Cities of Gold
Heart of Africa
Boulderdash (ALL of them)
Wonderboy
Rainbow Island
Java Jim
Supercycle
Skate or Die
Impossible Mission (and part 2)
and many... MANY more please!

I don't if I'd be too happy of *new* games being commissioned under the Commodore name to be honest. Just look at what happened to Atari...

I like my C64 memories as they are - fantastic stuff.

As for the old C64 games there is alread Vice64 on modded Xbox plus others for the PC.

In saying that though... :lol

Modern versions of Uridium and Paradroid would rock. :D

Well, I know that Impossible Mission (and IM2) were on that standalone joystick that QVC was selling around the holidays last year. I think one of the olympics games was on there, as well. They're still available on the website, too.

Sorry, I had an isamu moment, I'm back in control of my motor functions again :P

I liked the California Games title too, my first all-nighter games session with the lads was with Epyx sports games and World Leaderboard. (With a dash of Airborne Ranger thrown in).

Airborne Ranger with current day tech... OMG, somebody, please, get me an anti-isamu-reaction vaccine.

What, you never bought Cinemaware's Warp Speed cart? :P

my grammar school had C64s way back in the 80's. In computer class we would all sit in a corner tossing in and out California Games, Summer Games, Winter Games or one of about 30 random football (soccer) games. They was a shelf on the room with hundreds of unmarked floppy discs, all of which had random games on them. I tried to buy that collection way later on when they got rid of them and got PCs, but they wouldn't sell them to me for logistical reasons.

Bruce Lee!!

Also,
AD&D goldbox games
Legacy of the Ancients
Skate or die/Ski or die
Airborne Ranger
marble madness
yie ar kiung fu
maniac mansion
..and so many more

Er...you guys do know that none of the games mentioned so far in the thread were by or owned by Commodore, right? Commodore's actual back catalogue really doesn't add up to much besides International Soccer, which is awesome, but it's still just one game.

Got an Epyx FastLoad cartridge instead. I thought that was standard issue in the mid-80's! :lol

heyy dont you forget Tooth Invaders!! Anyway, International Soccer is still unrivalled; How many modern football game allow you to dribble the ball on your head from midfield to opponent goal..??

btw, I just recently bought the Commodore Direct to TV joystick. its awesome, too bad it doesnt support multiplayer gaming. :\

They already have released one plug n play TV unit that has several Epyx games on it and a few that were published by the likes of Mindscape, so I'm assuming they somehow got some other licenses.

I already own the kempston joystick thing which has Paradroid and Uridium on it... :)

... where IS the PSP C64 emulator anyways? we have a spectrum 48k one already... i guess now 2.0 is cracked, our european cousins will be busy throwing out insane stuff in the next few days.

I'm assuming they'll do what they did with that "Commodore game system" thing last year... license out the rights to a pile of ancient C64 games, then toss them into a system to be emulated. Licensing rights to old somewhat independent titles might be feasible.
