I want to buy an Internal HDD and an External Caddy.

Can someone give me a spot of advice as to what sort of things I should be looking out for when I go shopping this weekend. Should I buy an IDE drive and shove it in the caddy?

Any help would be awesome, and would earn my undying heterosexual love. (unless you're a woman, at which point you would earn my burning hunk of love rod.)

Sounds like the 1 step plan to stop people from responding to this thread. Ignoring that...

-3.5" IDE drives are fine. 5400RPM will run cooler but 7200RPM will be faster.
-When you buy a caddy, try to get one made of aluminum instead of plastic for the shell. It deals with heat a lot better.
-Obviously you want something with USB 2.0. But if you have firewire support you might want to find a caddy that supports that too.
-Getting one with a fan in it depends on how often you use the drive. I have a 7200RPM, 200GB drive that can get really hot, but since I only use it for file backups every once in awhile, having a fan isn't really that important.

Are you saying that you're afraid of my love rod?

For shame...

Anyways, thanks for the help. It's going to be used pretty regularly. The HDD I have now isn't big enough for my freelance video projects, and I'd like something that I can grab and take to work when I need to.

Thanks for the input.
