Sweet, sweet 2D. Destroys LoM DS.
Awful comparison. If contact ever has the amount of action on screen as LoM I will be very surprised. Contact is the equivalent of Resident Evil in 2D form.

What's the deal with the very different style for inside and outside?

From my understanding, the professor and the boy play on two different screens, and they have two different stories and they never really meet - but their actions affect one another.

So it may be the boy has one graphical representation, and the professor another, too distinguish the two different stories/gameplay/scanarios, etc.

Thats just a guess though.

Does anyone know how this game is actually played? Looks really interesting, but I don't know what to make of it.

i dunno, but the kid in the drawing art has black hair, and the kid in the screens is red - so i got nothing, heh

looks like an awesome game that almost none of us will ever play!

According to EDGE it's an online RPG. Some of the screens sure does have that Earthbound vibe going on...

I'm going to venture out and say that this is definitely coming to the US.* Looks to fit the NDS' demographics perfectly. Game looks awesome BTW. Love the art style. From the creators of Killer 7? Bleh, I didn't fancy that game, but I know it's GAF's love child, so don't sue me.

I hope I'm right!

Well, considering that Ubisoft grabbed Lost Magic and Exit for US release, I wouldn't be surprised if they brought over more unique titles in the US.

Yes, it'll be interesting to see how Exit sells though. I wouldn't mind picking it up...but I have too much on my plate as it is. This game, being an action-rpg and being online, could sell loads more than either of those games though, so I hope they do the smart thing and bring it over. Too bad I can't read Japanese.

Actually, I've had my fingers crossed that Atlus would pick this one up. They're good about nabbing niche handheld RPGs and doing a bang-up job, and I think Atlus' style would fit this game perfectly.

I'd rather not have atlus pick this up, they barely produce enough units for people to buy.

IGN's Small Write-Up

The story of Contact begins when an elderly professor, making use of a strange item called "element," creates a space ship and blasts off into space. He ends up crash landing on a strange planet, and with the elements now scattered across the planet, he can no longer get his ship off the ground. So, the professor enlists the help of a young local boy called Cherry in collecting the elements. Enlists may not be the correct term -- Cherry is forced to help the professor when Cherry comes into the possession of a mysterious set of seals. Helping the professor is the only way that Cherry will be able to get home.

You play a role in the game's storyline as well. Once Cherry sets out on his journey to find the elements, the professor ends up losing contact with him. The professor asks that the person who bought Contact -- that is, the player of the game -- work with Cherry to find the Elements. Your adventure with Cherry begins on a deserted island.

Contact makes use of two main gameplay systems. Giving the game somewhat of a loose connection with Killer 7 is a costume system through which you make Cherry change into costumes, earning new skills along the way. You'll earn seven costumes as you work through your adventure, turning Cherry into such forms as a fisherman, a cook and a pilot. With greater use, a costume rises in level, adding extra power to its associated skills. Outside of the costume-based skills, Cherry also has magic and weapon-based skills which you also gather as you work through the game.

The other gameplay system centers on the seals that were mentioned in the storyline. Cherry can stick multiple seals to himself, resulting in added powers. Seals can also be used to attack enemies who get in the way of your travels. Come across an elemental, and you'll want to use a seal to suck it up.

I've been following this for a while now. Hope it gets a US release! ^_____^

Fuck Ubi Soft. They have the worst localizations I've been forced to suffer through in ages.

Actually, I'd say Atlus generally produces exactly enough units for people to buy. When those units sell out, they usually do a reprinting, too.

They've done some good stuff in the past (I think their Grandia II localization was a lot better than it's generally given credit for being), but their recent stuff has hardly been up to par. Lunar Legend and Dragon Song both would have been a *lot* better if their writing hadn't been so terrible, and if the localizer had actually gone out of its way to do some QCing.

But, oh well. Ubisoft is never my first choice for localizing something now, but I still have to give them credit for bringing over some really niche stuff (Lost Magic) that most publishers would never touch. So if no one else with a better track record wants Contact then yeah, I'd rather Ubi do it than have it sit in Japan.
