ControlSim - GameCube games online?

Supposedly there is a program in the works that allows you to play non-LAN GameCube games online. Only works with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle right now but other games (Super Smash Bros Melee) are being worked on.

Couple sites have been talking about it including gcdev.com, but I don't even understand how that could be possible.

Sounds like a lot of work just to get it running, so probably not worth it, but here's the links I've seen so far:

I'm still waiting for the pages to load, but I'd guess it's much like how emulators accomplish a similar task. Send the button presses through the network to be used at the other end. The problem, I'd think, would be random things. With an emulator made specifically to do this it could sync things up, but without that ability you'd see different items popping up at different times in SSBM, or perhaps a computer character would act differently.

Close. It sounds like the sync problem is taken care of by use of a save state to get both systems going from the same base point.

Friend of mine and I are going to try it out tomorrow with SA2B, so I'll see how well it works. Could be interesting if they end up getting a script for SSB:M working well enough.

SNES, NES, N64 (multiplayer)games can be played online with kaillera, those games were not designed with online in mind.

From what I've been reading, it sounds like the Xlink guys are looking to work with this guy to integrate whatever it is into Xlink Kai.

isn't kaillera an application with emulation layer (it can access the proper debug info of the games to create paquets and send them over the internet)? that maybe explain how it can handle the info of the games for both sides to be able to play online,

I have my doubts because in the current systems you will need a proper netcode built into the game to do that, that's why the only possible solution is to exploit the LAN connectivity via tunneling software to play online. still it will be interesting how this ends.
