A Cleveland police officer claims he can’t remember climbing onto the hood of two suspects’ car and firing 15 rounds through the windshield. Both suspects died from gunshot wounds. The officer is now facing two counts of voluntary manslaughter for his part in the two deaths.

The Daily Mail reports that officer Michael Brelo from the Cleveland, Ohio, police force has been charged with two counts of voluntary manslaughter after it was determined he fired 15 rounds into a vehicle containing two suspects while standing on the hood of their car. The shots followed a high speed chase involving a number of other police officers. However, Brelo is charged with excessive force for firing his 15 rounds after all other officers had ceased firing and did so after jumping onto the hood of the suspects’ car.

The incident began after a police officer in plain clothes attempted to pull over Timothy Russell, 43, and Malissa Williams, 30. The car sped away in front of the Cleveland police headquarters. At this point, the car backfired. Police and witnesses thought the backfire was a weapon shot and reported gunfire outside of the station. This caused a frenzy of police officers to rush to the chase. Brelo was one officer involved in the high speed chase. In total, 60 police cruisers containing 104 officers were involved in the chase which reached speeds of 100 MPH.

So this fool waits until all the other cops stopped shooting and runs and jumps on the hood and fires 15 rounds through the windshield at point blank range. Of course he can't remember......

So after all the other cops get done lighting the car up he charges forward, jumps on the hood, and fires point blank into the windshield and doesnt remember it?

This reminds me of the time Carmen Electra caught Dennis Rodman in bed with two women-he told her he had no idea where they came from and that they fell out of the ceiling.

"I'm sorry, I just don't remember murdering those 2 people."

...

Chances are they are already dead from 100+ rounds already fired. Sounds like he just got caught up in the Get Some moment and got overexcited.

edit: reminds me of the AZ(?) raid where they breach the door and start firing and an officer runs up and fires blindly over their heads.

edit2: Found a gif of the Jose Guerena murder

I wonder if the 2nd amendment is worth the cost more and more everyday.

The people who were murdered by these cops were unarmed. The second amendment has nothing to do with this.
If we repealed the second amendment, do you think cops would also stop carrying guns?

To compare, their car:

137 total shots. Armed: Unarmed. Their crime: Speeding? Evading Arrest, maybe?

Bonny and Clyde's car:

Around 130 total shots. Armed: Stolen automatic rifles, sawed-off semi-automatic shotguns, assorted handguns, and several thousand rounds of ammunition. Their crime: dozen-or-so bank robberies, multiple small store and rural gas station robberies, murder of at least nine police officers and several civilians.

So what got the police to open fire on them. I know they were in a chase, but once they stopped, did they just open fire for no reason, or did they have some reason to believe they needed to fill the car with bullets (outside the car backfiring at the beginning, which is hardly justification)?

Bonnie and Clyde were killed by 6 people using weapons from the 30s.

Over 100 cops were chasing these two. Be thankful the car was not disintegrated.

This must be the dumbest cop in the country, and that's really saying something.
Everyone knows that all you need to do to get away with any violence as a cop is to say "I feared for my life." and/or "He was coming right for us!".

I think 12 other officers fired on the car and none of them were brought up on charges. Evidence and eyewitness statements seem to corroborate the story that the officers were justified in feeling their lives were being threatened. It was stated that the officers who fired believed the car was moving toward them deliberately.

The car was surrounded and off the street, so the prosecutor argued that there was no justification to shoot in an attempt to prevent the car from fleeing. Which is why after the barrage of 100 and something shots was finished and this dummy jumped up on the hood to fire at least one fatal shot, he was charged with two counts of manslaughter. Four or five supervisors were also charged for not doing their jobs during the chase (not informing dispatch of how many cars there were in the chase, not communicating with their officers, one for pulling over and not contributing, etc.).

If the current understanding of what happened is accurate it's clear the guy committed a crime. Fortunately in addition to him hopefully facing justice the families were able to settle their wrongful death suits with the city for $3 million total.

If he would have just stood next to his buddies and emptied his clips with the rest of them he would've been fine... got a little carried away though I guess.

Just thought it was an interesting comparative use of force, given that these people were killed in a similar way with a similar number of rounds as a famous criminal couple. Especially comparing both pairs "crimes" that led to that use of force. These unarmed civilians were killed in a manner similar to a famous heavily armed former "Most Wanted" couple. Kind of makes you think.

I don't understand how outside getting a favor called in this dude got that dumped to voluntary manslaughter.

Why is America becoming so mental? Serious question. Is it the gun laws, the racial tension, stupid people? I just don't get how this sorta stuff can happen day after day.

As the car spun to a stop, one officer began firing as he said he feared for his life as the vehicle approached. This caused 135 rounds to be shot towards Russell’s vehicle from officers surrounding the scene.

smh

It's becoming less violent overall, except for the cops. They really shouldn't all be carrying guns.

They always get away with it. This other guy would've. If he didn't jump up on the hood of the car.

0_o

Anyway... even still he isn't getting the full punishment.

I would make the "0_o" face again, but honestly it's not even surprising at this point.

I wonder what percentage of those 60 cop cars were filled with bloodthirsty cops just looking for a reason. This cop should claim peer pressure in court and see if the jury buys it.

Pretty sure I saw a video of this years ago. I'm sure it's still around if you want to look for it.

I think I know the video you're thinking of but it was from a few years before this incident. If I remember right the car was also moving in that video and the officer acted properly.

Haha, that's like the worst time for the car to backfire.

Cop must have had a whiff of marijuana from the inside of the car so it's understandable that he doesn't remember a thing.

Apparently, a lot of people get hopped up on adrenaline and completely lose their shit after high speed chases. Which is why some police departments have banned chases.

People shoot each other everyday in murrica...gangs vs gangs, random acts of violence, drive-by's, revenge, crime of passion, robbery, paranoid white cops, political ideologues, anti-goverment activists, etc...
