Could Kinect be reborn for AI features?

People used to criticize the Kinect, which looked useless yet added an extra 100 bucks to the price of the Xbox One in 2013.

However, could such a device become a default again as long as AI becomes an integral part of future games?

I still don't get that star wars showcase where the character in the game animated first and the demonstrator just copied what was on screen.

Like how did they think this was going to work and fool people? That was so mad balls to do that to try and sell a product.

I don't really get the point.
The most interesting use of AI in gaming would be being able to have dynamic conversations with characters, and you can do that with any mic (or keyboard, if you don't want to talk)

Don't let Molineux hear about this, let Milo rest in pieces.

When he finds out his little boy simulator might be back on track:

How about a voice discussion about a route with Lara Croft?
Or asking your COD protagonist about the best weapon against the soldiers on this location?
You really don't need Kinect for any of that. That was always the silliest thing about the product; that most people used it for voice commands that could easily be done without a chunky device and all the camera/sensor stuff. They eventually allowed the same Kinect voice stuff to function w/o a Kinect and it's kind of telling that nobody even talks about that stuff anymore and games stopped supporting it (despite having voice commands way back on OG Xbox as well.)

Kinect was never the issue of the Xbox One. it was the price, the perception that Kinect contributed to that price, and the stupid marketing beforehand.

making Kinect an integral part of the Xbox One would actually have been a good thing.
Kinect was originally supposed to also be used for normal motion controls, similar to the Wii Remote or Sixaxis stuff. every Xbox One controller had IR LEDs on the top, which Kinect could see and track the motion of the controller.

the only game I know that used it however was Dead Rising 3. I think in that game you could shake off zombies by shaking the controller... maybe there was other stuff as well, or even other games. but because MS pulled the plug on Kinect pretty soon after launch, this became largely forgotten, and I think later Xbox One controller revisions also ditched the IR LEDs.

it also allowed you to command NPCs by simply pointing somewhere on the screen, and you could bait zombies by yelling into the mic.

Kinect could have been a really cool addition, even without AI... but after they made it optional most devs didn't bother using it at all.

You are right, but camera could add more interactions. In dialogs NPCs could see your emotions. Or AI could adjust a game difficulty, depending on your miserable face! 😂

What's the connection? I'm not seeing how Kinect specifically enables or facilitates any AI capabilities.
It's not necessary a Kinect, just some camera with a microphone for interaction with AI based characters in a game (and other AI options).

Xbox One Kinect was very underused by games, and Microsoft didn't release any compelling first party software for it. I would like to see them try with the new Xbox, which would give Xbox new gameplay experiences and features exclusive to that platform. Like how Sony still implements motion controls on their controllers which certain games will take advantage of (Until Dawn made excellent use of it)

In what way would AI integration require or benefit from Kinect? Do you mean a Microphone?

I still miss the kinetic I would still use it just for the ability to scan QR codes and not have to type in those long ass digital redemption codes.
