Could we make our own weekly gaming podcast?

I mean, look at TWiT (http://www.Twit.tv). It's the tech guys we all know just bantering for a good 90 minutes and people lap it up.
Granted we probably wouldn't be as professional, but I think we could have some sort of podcast. There's a couple gaming ones, but it seems like it's only one guy from the ones I found.

Do you think we could do it, or would it eventually result in talking about how much we hate everything?

"I hate EGM. GI rocks."
"GI Sucks. They hate Nintendo."
"Nintendo sucks donkey cock."
"You can't say that. We're trying to keep this kosher."
"F--- you."

How many of you guys are familiar with using Skype?

I'd only consider making it if we called it what it would really be. A WEBCAST.. say it with me

WEB.. CAST!

What is a podcast? Is it a newfangled way of putting up a stream or mp3s of random people talking about random crap? Why did it get a fancy new name? My website put up stuff like this back in 1998, and now kids are talking like it's some fancy pants elite thing. Same thing happened with online journals. I knew people who had websites with journals on them back in the 90s. Suddenly in 2003-04 it's all BRAND NEW CONCEPT: BLOG BLOG BLOGS!

Edit:

Thank you. Podcast is such a silly name.

A podcast is basically an mp3 blog on an RSS feed that's autodownloaded (Key part). NOTHING to do with iPods except that iPods play mp3s.

We could ignore the whole naming debate and call it the GAFCast.

I am preparing a weekly half hour videogame podcast for september.

The podcast will be in spanish and you will have access to it thanks to the iTunes 4.9 Podcast capability.

no me gusta espanol

I didn't say it would suck. I think just having chat for a bit, without including sports, would be cool. I mean, most of us get our news from here anyway.

Sorry, podcast just bothers me :D
GAFCast is way better anyway

This reminds me of Retrogamingradio. That show can be pretty funny sometimes, though I've only heard maybe a handful of episodes.

I would consider listening to a GAF broadcast, though I think you should audition the voices behind the show instead of choosing people based on their forum personas.

Yeah. There'd have to be a lot of planning that goes into it. Establishing a format would be key. Unlike technology, with video games, it's easy to get a bias, so we'd constantly need to cover all the bases to either offend no one or offend everyone.

Sounds like a good idea, we would need people to think through their news and analysis a bit more than they do on the forums, but it could work dammit!

I am an awesome entertainer with a superb personality. Ask TekunoRobby up there, I've had some encounters with him on Ventrilo.

I'm thinking we could schedule it to be done Thursday night or so and on all other days of the week we just try to mark the thread/news that we find worthy of mention. Then we'd collaborate on IRC to narrow the topics down.

I'm sure there's people here with more production experience than me. (Which is virtually nothing)

^^
Talk to me on Skype right now, then!

I could play any angle you wish, Robby's got love for everyone. Demi would also be a good addition; Demi-Factor is a must.

On a more serious note I'd definitely like to participate. I go through this every time I have class so I've had some practice in regards to giving opinion pieces and news bits vocally.

Fuck Skype (for no other reasons than I don't have it).

Exactly, add in some Gamespot/Sony conspiracy theories and it would be 90 minutes of just that with screachy voices. Remember that video with the kid and chocolate milk?

Yeah, it is, and pretty inaccurate, but the term's already caught on and I doubt it will be changing anytime soon. Meanwhile, I'm not going to worry about the semantics and continue to enjoy my usual 'podcasts' as I burn them on CD-RWs and listen to them on my drives to and from work.

Well, after 3 hours, we've confirmed that if you DON'T USE BITTORRENT it works fine, although the 4-person limit is sucky. Gizmo might be better.

I like this idea, and volunteer my time and (lack of) talents.

GAFCast -- Insert Catchy Slogan Here.

This would give me a reason to return to the whole "N-Run" thing I was attempting two years ago: a video game news site featuring just the facts, devoid of press releases, and empty of inane commentary and speculation. I couldn't keep up the daily updates, and I sort of abandoned it after the last e3. However, an N-Run weekly audio segment would be easier to do.

I'm going to contact CheapyD and ask him if we can plug his site and mention a deal or two in the cast.

Edit: Sent it to him. I suggested just using the site to read off a deal, him actually being a reoccuring guest or just supplying us with an mp3 each week to play for a bit.

if everyone contributed 2 minutes of material, you could stick together an awesome gaming podcast.

Does it actually have to be serious?

I hate serious.

What might work best is to have multiple games covered each week and have 3 or 4 people talk about it for a bit and I'd string them all together. It'd be a different group, so I'm sure any that you participated in would be goofy as all hell.
Games take a while to make so each week there'd be a different group on the same game, so you'd get all the views eventually.

I'm liking this idea...

However, you need to run at least one promo for the DRINKY PUPPY CLUB. Or an interview.

I can only back this idea if the entire program consists of something like "two minutes hate," complete with the equivalent of lurkers whose only posts ever are their multiple rants contained within

CheapyD's in. He's up for anything.

So far we have group game discussions, The Demi Factor and a CheapAssGamer segment.

I think its a good idea.

The downside is the "NINTENDO SUCKS" "XBOX OMGZ" people, but it would definatley make them sound alot more foolish in the process than they already are.
