Will we see Microsoft Gaming (Xbox) make anymore studio acquisitions?

giphy.gif

It should be a meme now in any XBOX thread at this point!

Don't expect any more large ones after that ABK fiasco. They lied through their teeth to get it through then went back on nearly everything they said after it was a done deal. FTC won't fall for that again.

With the studio closures and the fact they are trying to shut down the Xbox division, I don't see any more studio purchases at least not while Xbox still exists.

Also, what governing body would let them make any more big acquisitions after seeing how badly they fucked up after buying ABK?

High interest rate + (presumably high) burn rate = no big acquisitions any time soon.

In a few years though? Absolutely.

What would be the purpose, to keep pushing Gamepass? I know MS has infinite money but at some point sunk cost fallacy fades when realization sets in, Gamepass is not the "netflix of gaming" and never will be because the media is consumed differently

I mean would the FTC even allow it? When is enough, enough.

Does it matter if MS has hardware or not? Because I have no idea. Not many purchases left the size of Activision. But I supposed smaller devs. More IPS for them to cancel.

The intention behind the Bethesda and Activision acquisitions was to gain exclusivity.

That now goes against Microsoft's current objectives in gaming.

That all depends on whether MS still believes in gaming and sees a future in it. If yes, then they'll surely buy a few more small to mid-sized studios. If not and I think that's more likely, then they won't buy anything else.

When they're no longer in the hardware space I can definitely see them buying more. But that all depends on how well the transition to full on publisher works out over the next few years.

As for them buying Sony or Nintendo. Literally zero chance of that happening.
Not just because of the Japanese government politely telling them to fuck off, but because that's too big of a risk, even for a juggernaut like MS. You're looking at around 200 billion Dollars for one.

Take 2 is possible though. Certainly not anytime soon, but in the future I can see them taking a punt at acquiring them.

They might, but I doubt anytime soon. At this point I really don't think more acquisitions is a good idea. First manage the companies you have before trying to green new ones. Which game company would trust them under Microsoft's supervision btw? Has any of them truly improved after being acquired by Microsoft?

Shouldn't they destroy one or two more of their studios before thinking of buying new ones to trash?

Could WBD be an option anyone?

In the spirit of the ABK thread - imagine if Xbox Leadership can revive Monolith so we can get a new FEAR and Condemned game.

Shaolin Monks 2 also a strong possibility under Xbox Leadership?

This stuff will look great alongside all the unnannounced Activision single-player IPs.

Im gonna go with absolutely not.
But they would if they could. Thats how they stay in the game - $Powerleveling$ since day one.

I would think the FTC allowed ABK because Tencent was the perceived threat even though Sony was the one opposing it officially.
The FTC will bent customer and competition protection if it helps one of their own. I would assume there are strong lobbies influencing politicians and thus the FTC to enforce American interests.
Generally the FTC probably should require Meta, Alphabet, MS, Apple, Autodesk, Adobe, Amazon and probably more to split up. Most of them have monopolies or something similar to that. But I guess they fear some Chinese company might take their place.

How about never, but lets be real I feel they will get more studios. My only thought is with all the headlines and firings are studios willing to make a deal to be bought by them or will they tell Microsoft no.
