Counter Strike Most Expensive Skin Sells for $1 Million

In January 2024, the Blue Gem AK-47 – a one-of-a-kind skin – was ‘discovered’, with many users surmising it had been unboxed in a CS weapon case. This extraordinary pull would have had the clout to turn an average gamer into a millionaire overnight – but it’s believed that it sat firmly in the grip of a collector for several years. In 2022, a slightly ‘more worn’ variant of this skin sold for a whopping $400,000 – but that’s far from being the most expensive Counter-Strike skin ever auctioned off.

The most expensive skin ever sold publically in Counter-Strike history has just changed hands for over $1 million. The final sum wasn’t disclosed by the private buyer, but it was referenced that the transaction was worth ‘more than $1 million’. It was a StatTrak Factory New AK-47 in Blue Gem (Pattern 661), a one-of-one weapon skin that was shielded in secrecy for more than a decade. It was known to be in the wild, but it was never revealed who owned it – but the value of the skin was always common knowledge.

Well those gay COD skins that have just released should sell for even more than that....considering the requirement seems to be for them all to be bland and embarassing as shit.

There are famillies out there, starving, homeless, miserable while some rich narcisistic cunt is spending 1 million dollars on a gun skin in a game.

Makes you think what the fuck even is the point of being righteous and honorable as a person when there is such a level of moral injustice to the world order.

Not wanting to be political but I agree with you. A thing like this gun skin is a waste of money outside of the context of the game and its market. It serves no purpose in the real word, so to me is meaningless.

And average people complain about the 10$ price hike this gen or if a 3.99 skin pack is worth it.
Mobile is basically built around whale hunting, not necessarily like this- that person certainly has a lot of disposable income-, but console and PC have rookie numbers in terms of micro (and macro?) transactions and addictive loops.
Sick industry.

Doesn't even look that nice lol. Had a rare knife in CS Go which sold really quickly, crazy how much people are willing to spend on ingame items.

You think thats bad, CS has basically turned into a freemium lootbox/casino with cosmetics at $2.5 a pop with a chance to win something. Valve supposedly made $1 billion, last year from CS cases alone.

Here's a video with a Swedish CS streamer called Anomaly talks about this particular 661 skin, how he got it and the maths involved in getting it.

I've been playing CS2 for a while, and skin trading can be quite a game-changer. Whether you’re just starting out or you've been playing for years, you’ve certainly encountered the concept of skin wear.

What exactly is skin wear, and how do the different levels differ? Essentially, each skin has a "float value" that determines its condition and appearance. Factory New skins are pristine, but as they wear down, they get classified into Minimal Wear, Field Tested, Well Worn, and Battle Scarred.

The float value is a number between 0.00 and 1.00. Factory New is 0.00 to 0.07, Minimal Wear is 0.07 to 0.15, and so on. Knowing this helps when deciding whether to invest in a particular skin. For more details, check out https://skinsmonkey.com/blog/csgo-skins-wear-levels. It explains the different wear levels and how they affect the value of skins.

I wanna picture of the dude who spent a million dollars on a gun skin.
I wanna see what this dude looks like

Also a pic of the dude who sold it..
No telling what the seller looks like but living around and actually knowing some who could afford something like this those people are generally pretty fit because they usually buy higher quality foods that are prepared for them, many have personal trainers and own their own small gyms usually in their homes

I get all that, I know two dudes like this (mid 40s) but they are alcoholics and it’s starting to show, so I don’t know how far those chefs and personal trainers can carry them.
Even if I had 30 million in the bank, I couldn’t morally pull the trigger on something like this especially after all suffering I’ve seen and witnessed on this planet.
But hey, different strokes for different folks and all that jazz. Just trying to understand.

Why don't you steal it from him, then re-sell it and give the proceeds to those homeless starving people?

If u have 30min. I don’t believe you would. Cause a mil is still a big hit for you. More likely someone having over 500mil or close to a billion gonna just drop a mil for something as useless as a skin for a game

Likely the people spending a mil on something like this are worth 10x that 30 million or more

The flawed logic here is not knowing the person who bought this skin may have Bill Gates kind of money and has what donated like $50 Billion to charities, does it make it ok now to spend what is literal pocket change to someone like that?

I sold a bunch a few years ago, bought and gifted a bunch of games. Still have plenty left like a bunch of Operation breakout weapon cases that go for 7€ a pop.

You can buy that skin in Russia and sell it in the EU to take your assets with you if you are fleeing the country, right?

There is probably someone who lives in the Republic of Congo who’d say the same thing about you if he’s told how much you spend on video games in an average year.

This is the NFT in games concept fully realized and the results speak for themselves. I guess they avoided blue hair wrath because they’re not on the block chain.

It's been a long time since I was bothered by stuff like this. Generally, people are free to spend their money as they wish without my input.

With that said, the concept of someone paying one million dollars for a mere cosmetic item in a game is certainly interesting..

I feel really disconnected from the world reading that. I must now be officially old.
