Crash Bandicoot Remastered

Crash 2 is the best in the series with only a few flaws such as

-No checkpoints in the death boat runs.

Challenging game design is NOT a flaw. Forcing players to get good at your game instead of allowing them to save their progress after every single obstacle is NOT a flaw.

It should be noted that a few of the longer secret areas do have checkpoints like the red gem path in Snow Biz or the secret area in Unbearable. They don't appear in the shorter ones, however, because the designers recognized that using checkpoints as a crutch to make difficult sections easier is bad game design.

They were made by Naughty Dog, highly doubt it'll hit anything else than PlayStation.
Isn't there a weird thing where it's like Activision has the rights to Crash, but Sony has the rights to the Naughty Dog games?

Also I really like the Skylanders redesign, wouldn't be surprised if that's what they use for the remakes. He's cartoony and true to the original design. Was fully expecting Sonic Boom Knuckles-tier nightmares

HOLY SHIT....

Just replayed Crash 1 on my laptop last summer, it still holds up and is fun! Great game to play outside...

Played all of the originals on my old ps1 when i was 12, this is going to be gooood

I can't wait for these remasters. I wish CTR was part of it too. Still one of the best kart racers ever made. I hope this leads to brand new game. One made with care, I mean. This is your chance, Activision. Don't screw this up.

Sony have the publishing rights for the original PS1 games AFAIK.

So have they confirmed more about these remasters in some stream?

Weird that they are going for remaster and not remake. PS1 games are already at a point where you often have to do more than just up the resolution and adds a few textures here and there to bring them to modern standards

Their language is "from the ground up"

Expect completely new visuals from Vicarious Visions, just keeping the original levels and stories intact

Hard to say without more info but "from the ground up" doesn't mean "we're polishing the textures". Remaster is just a mess of a word, they probably also consider "remakes" to be like Ratchet of FFVII where it's literally remade as a new experience based on the old game

They are going to do more than just upress the PS1 models and backround, they practically have to. If this was just a clean up job or up res, then they would not devote announcing it on main stage and making a big deal out of it.

Curious then, how did a Crash game wind up on the OG Xbox/GCN then? Did Naughty Dog license Crash to another developer for the game?

Naughty Dog never had the license and Sony had exclusive publishing right on the Crash Bandicoot games on the PS1, with Universal owning the IP.

Universal then later moved away from Sony during the PS2 era and the IP went multiplat.

the more i look at it, the more crash just looks like a weirdly designed character.

even the old crash...

he just looks weird man.

Agreed. It's kinda disturbing actually.

But man I loved these games as a kid.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how these look with a new coat of paint, along with if VV make any changes to Crash 1 (the gameplay itself wasn't dated, but the savesystem isn't as great as 2 and 3)

I second the notion of Crash 2 being the best one personally. I love them all and it was even one of my first videogames but going back to it it feels like 1 more focused and refined whereas Warped was a bit more over the place in terms of gameplay. They're all fantastic games though that still holdup extremely well even now.

From what I recall Sony had a deal with Universal Interactive Studios to develop/publish the Crash and Spyro games, but Universal still retained IP rights.

Then when PS2 came along and Naughty Dog moved onto Jak and Daxter and Insomniac went onto Ratchet & Clank. Sony had a chance to get the IP's rights at one point I believe but passed it up (probably regretting that now) so the series ended up going multiplatform from then on. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but I think that's the gist of it.

Honestly, Crash looks great.

Seems to confirm they're using the original source material.

It would've been great to see a trailer for the remasters, but I can imagine that its part of a marketing strategy to promote Skylanders before anything else.

Ratchet was announced the same way in 2014

"Insomniac is remaking the first game from the ground up with new visuals and gameplay for PS4. Now here's a trailer for the movie" Wait what

Even if they have nothing to show, they need to namedrop it to assure people they know

Crash was never much more to me than the second-best of the three big mascot games of '96 (worse than Mario 64, better than NiGHTS), but I've come to realize (only recently!) that it's one of those huge childhood franchises for people who were a few years younger than me at the time. It's nice to see remasters of games that are actually old enough to warrant them, for once, and they might even get me to give the series another chance.

Nobody's nostalgic for Blasto or Rascal, right? Just checking.

The new model is at least close to what crash is just crazier. I'm sure VV will keep true to the original model. They know what crash is. I also hope they bring back the iconic crash font.

Also is this a hint to what the graphics will look like?

Considering it matches up with the Crash design in Skylanders style-wise, I could see this as prototype HD N. Sanity Island :).

I do agree that it looks similar to DKC quite a bit and very excited to see the games look in HD in the future.

I'm actually potentially really excited for this! But it all depends on how updated they make it. Update those controls and difficulty on Crash 1, too.

I dunno, I think the Skylander's model is pretty faithful.

Looks really creepy to me. Like a carved wood model that is painted.

Never played the originals other than a few times at my cousins when I was a kid.

New design looks weird, but none the less I will get these when they come out. I do hope it releases early 2017 though. I would also like a Vita version as these games seem like they would be good handheld games

Damn, no mention of Spyro's 2 second appearance in the Crash Skylanders trailer? Truly RIP.

The design is good. The original trilogy is great. This is the logical way to approach further expansion of the franchise.

Though his head does seem a tad big here.

I hope that model is just for Skylander... It looks bad.

Crash 1,2,3 remakes, i'm ok with it. I guess i was just dissappointed there wasn't a new game and or that they showed nothing about this remake.

So nice to see so many people on Twitter in their late 20's/early 30's talking about having to buy a PS4 because of Crash Bandicoot! :D So much for the "noone wants Crash, his games have aged badly, they were never good!" folks who usually post here.

Both sets of guest characters have turned out great, though I'd be curious what the difference was between modelling Bowser and DK under Nintendo's direction to under... Uh, Sony's I guess, would've been.
