Crash Bandicoot Remastered

Good job.

Ugh. God. The music during the conference.

But... "fully remastered from the ground up" sounds much more than just the usual remaster. I'd like to think it's going to be remade from the ground up, but unlike, say, Final Fantasy VII, they're not changing anything.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy it... I mean, I love the games so much, but that kind of gameplay in this day and age is, questionable?

Whatever. Doesn't matter. Day fucking one.

The gameplay is fine. The real thing that needs changing is Crash 1's ridiculous save system.

I think Ratchet & Clanking Crash Bandicoot 1-Warped is probably for the best. A new Crash probably wouldn't work but the classics with pretty graphics is pretty hard to screw up.

It's also a way to gauge potential demand for a future game.
Being able to play these games with modern graphics is great for fans of the series but will also let modern generations enjoy these titles for the first time.

They are in no way "ratchet and clanking" these. Sony needs to clarify the situation asap for both sides whether I'm right or wrong.

Crash 2 is one of the best platformers ever, so this is cool news. Might get me to buy a ps4, along with the ffvii remake and ffxv.

I mentioned in other threads this was happening but had to pretend I was speculating before this announcement, so can't say I called it. The shocking part was Sony saying "they're teaming up with Activsion." Teaming up on what? I have no idea, but don't be surprised if these remakes appear on other consoles.

Teaming up because Activision owns the rights to it. They already confirmed it's a PS4 exclusive.

They're teaming up because Sony made the original games but Activison has the Crash license and Sony approached them to find a deal to bring those games on PS4 in a remastered form.

Why do you have such a determined position on this matter without knowing anything?
They said remastered from the ground up which means that they are redoing things.
It's certainly more than putting the old games in HD.
The extent of the remastering effort is still unknown.
Worst case it will be like the Ocarina N64->3DS transition, best case they're redoing the same levels using the Skylanders engine.
I guess we'll see the first footage at PSX in December,

Didn't hear about exclusivity. Someone I know working on this (not development or at Activision) told me they were budgeting for 3 SKUs and not one. Granted, this was a month or two ago. Deals change all the time. Regardless, will play and get the skylander crash toy if made available solo.

There is certainly a deal between Sony and Activision on this.
The original Crash Bandicoot games are Sony games and it's obvious that Sony approached Activision to sort it out licence issues to bring these titles on PS4.
Chances of other platforms are extremely low.

I know you said Day One, and I agree, but why is it questionable, really?

If I think about it, (and I want to point out that I have not played the games since... early 2000's? so I don't remember it as clearly as I would like to) it feels kind of simple...? If that makes sense. I think it's just me thinking of platformer games being such a foreign idea nowadays, because they kind of stopped making them. I can't even think of a single platformer game today. Except Mario, I guess, but I don't have a 3DS so I don't know what the fuck those are like.

The gameplay is fine. The real thing that needs changing is Crash 1's ridiculous save system.

Ah, it's been ages so I can't remember what that was like. Care to remind me? It sounds bad, so... was it not a checkpoint thing?

I keep thinking about how Shawn Layden said "from the ground up." In addition to that, it feels like an idiotic move for Sony to not do "a Ratchet and Clank" for Crash, considering how beloved the franchise is, right? There's just no way this is going to be a simple remaster with HD graphics and all that.

Hopefully it's more remake than remaster.

I love Crash 2 and 3, but there's parts of the game that haven't aged as well. Merely making them pretty won't be enough.

I'm having a very hard time finding an official statement from either Activision or Sony stating that the remasters are exclusive to PS4. Do you have a presser from either of the two companies that says it like that?

Oooh, and you're sure this isn't 3 as in the three Crash games, but 3 console versions (assuming one isn't PC) of the game?

Thanks for the info! :)

I haven't seen any confirmation that this remaster is an exclusive. I fully expect it to hit other platforms, maybe after a timed period or something.

Looks fine here. Don't know why his cranium is so big in the other pic

It's maybe part of his sprinting animation with his head jutting forward. I mean, it's an odd looking character anyway - and as I was all about Sega/Nintendo back in those days, I have no nostalgia goggles on for it. I always thought he was 'up there' with Bubsy and Acro, and never gave the games the time of day.

Sunset Vista however, made me it's bitch. Possibly the hardest level in the game no doubt.

Ever seen the ridiculous early version of Sunset Vista that was changed for the final game? That would have been fun.

For me Slippery Climb is the hardest level, too. But I've played the game so many times by now it's basically in my muscle memory. My favorite levels are the Bridge in the sky ones.

Is Vicarious Visions developing this a good thing? Have they done anything other than Skylanders?

Yes, their material has been faithful to the series before:
-Crash Nitro Kart (CTR successor)
-Crash Bandicoot XS, N-Tranced (series adaptation to 2D)
-Crash Fusion (crossover with Spyro in the 2D style)

What makes this even sadder is that the one PS1 Crash game that actually needs a remaster isn't getting it. CTR would have benefited sooooo much with added online play.

From what I've heard rumors of, CTR was attempted for PS3/360, to play like the classic game. Unfortunately the physics were too hard to replicate and would have let fans down, so they canceled it and assume that the engine was sort of only possible on PS1.

That's what the rumor I know said, at least. I think that's the game that got turned into a Shrek racing game.

I know there was a new Crash racing game in the style of "Crash Landed" that never happened. It had this huge Shark as a playable character. That game did get turned into Dreamworks Kartz.

CTR does have some tight controls. I wouldn't want them to screw that up.

The fan response to this project is already DOA.

Layden said "Remastered from the ground up" and people are already replacing the word Remastered with Remake which is a big difference.

Was pretty pissed about this unveiling and overall the ps conference in general but seeing my wife overjoyed that she can play her favorite three games again remastered with trophies made me accept it . I for one beat these games countless times and have no desire to go back to them unfortunately. I wanted a new game.

Considering how well the first three games sell on PSN, I think these remasters should do fine regardless. Hopefully they sell well so we can get a new game soon.

Ahh, A new Crash game. The thing everyone wants....but actually doesn't.

It's good they are doing the Remastered. They probably want to gauge if they should do a completely new game or not.
