I thought this was interesting enough to share

Using official data recorded by police in Great Britain between 1999 and 2010, we have plotted every road collision in which someone died. In all, 36,371 fatalities are marked on this interactive map. You will also find partial data for Northern Ireland, for 2004-2009.

Detailed information about each crash is recorded by the police at the scene. It is subsequently transferred onto a computer database. This is available to researchers from the Economic and Social Data Service.

Clicking on the dots gives a short description, mentioning their sex, age and other people who were only injured.

One motorbike accident in 2009.

I never noticed anybody driving above a tedious pace in Caldicot, so I suppose I am not surprised.

Grim. My area seems fairly cool though.

Edit: Gowans, I might be paranoid but I'm not sure it's a good idea to use your actual postcode. That narrows you down to 5-10 houses in the country.

Seriously, i am sure most people on gaf are good people but dude i pretty much know where you live. Why not just give the postcode for the near by library or something.

Yeah, I edited it out (and the quoted) to be careful. You never know who's reading.

Less fatal accidents than I thought would be on the A7. There's accidents galore on that stretch of road.

Oxford's cluster of bicycle versus vehicle accidents are tragic. Well, not more tragic than others, but able to be more immediately pictured when one thinks of the city.

Not as many as I thought there would be, but it's still sad all the same. Still remember that one from 2007 :(

Using my old post code of N7 0RB brings up the stats for close to Kings X. Pensioner pedestrians seem to be disproportionately represented.

Strange, some of the areas near me that I know are insanely dangerous junctions have no deaths at all. Whereas there are a bunch of deaths in places I'm struggling to work out how there could possibly be major accidents.

I guess going too fast / drink or drugs has to be a factor in a bunch of them.

Edit - In a lot of the crashes you can see the age / sex makeup of cars full of what looks like families. How depressing. :(

Wait, UK postcodes are reduced to 5-10 houses? That's crazy! ZIP codes here are tens of thousands of houses. :(

Apparently only one near me. Surprised seeing at there's a crossing much closer where the cars just speed through the lights.

Sad to see many of these incidents result in a pedestrian dying.
