TouchArcade's GOTY

93% on Metacritic

Very Positive - 90% on Steam

A tremendous value for the $4.99 asking price, now $1.99 in its first-ever sale.

Crashlands is a story-driven crafting ARPG set in an outlandish world of hidden magic and high technology. Fight and tame alien beasts, craft resources into menacing weaponry, befriend the locals, and go toe-to-chin with a world-domineering maniac.

Developer Butterscotch Shenanigans is a team of three brothers. One day, one of them was diagnosed with cancer. This was the game he decided to make before he died. A dream game.

Well, through hard fighting they made the game - and the brother survived. He is still survivng, and they are still working on the game. Since launch, Crashlands has received incredible support. Nearly non-stop updates added new features, content and fixes - all at no extra charge. This is a premium game all the way with not even a whiff of microtransactions or DLC. The game was awesome when it came out and it's way more awesome, now. I personally could not stop playing it for weeks. I don't even really like crafting games!

I saw this went on sale the other day, but couldn't figure out what type of game it was. I'm not a huge fan of Minecraft or Don't Starve - and it seemed to look like a cross of those?

There is no survival element and the focus on buiding is very small, it's more about crafting for new tools that allow you to explore deeper. Focus is mainly on exploration and doing quests.

Oddly enough I first really learned of this game through their weekly podcast, which is awesome. Easily one of my top few podcasts. I picked up Crashlands in this Steam sale to support the BScotch crew.

I have endless recommendations but I don't know what you like or what you already have.

Solitairica.
I have about $7 left in my Google Play account, I prefer not spending more than $3 or $4 on mobile games in the first place, I have every other system and would prefer them because buttons, and I regularly look through the mobile games recommendation thread.

If anything, I'd prefer a bit of a budget behind the games, because when mobile games feel cheap, they feel really damn cheap. I also prefer some gameplay depth, so while Super Hexagon is fun, it's like ten minutes and then deleted. So I usually aim for Squeenix and big budget games. For what it's worth, I like puzzle games. Not Monument Valley, that's trash.

Not usually a big fan of games like Don't Starve (I always think I will be, but when I actually start playing I lose interest fast), but hey, this looks really cool and funny and I've got Google play credit so why not? Thanks OP! Hopefully it's a fun distraction on my train rides.

I bought it based on the story, the credentials and my trust in you, OP. Hopefully there's not a wild microtransaction scheme.

I think they've committed to doing premium only games starting with Crashlands after feeling kinda gross about F2P stuff they used to get a start in game development.

I'm afraid this is where we part ways, then...

But Space Marshalls 1 & 2 is a good fit for you.

Well worth it for that price.

Tons of content for those who are fans of Minecraft, Don't Starve, Dragon Quest Builders, etc...

I like Don't Starve, but it's a little punishing. How hard is Crashlands? Also, are you constantly worried about food/heat or anything like that?

No, there is no survival element. You can die in combat but you respawn at home. You'll need to find your grave to recover some stuff.

I didn't like it to be honest and I bought it off the concept AND the story behind the dev.

The gameplay is a bit too ambitious for a mobile phone and it boils down to a farm fest to get to make better damage numbers.

Still, has enough work to grant a try and supporting that dev is awesome.

I bought the game for Android. My first mobile game purchase.

I also picked Out There : Omega Edition while at it.

Thanks for the heads up!

You played 80 Days or the Sorcery series?

Also really liked Dark Echo, The Room games, Wayward Souls, and King of Dragon Pass

Dark Echo especially, it was one of my favorite games last year. Part stealth game, part puzzler, part horror, awesome minimalist aesthetic, a cool "sound is sight" mechanic

Was about to buy this last week and thought I'd hold off in case of sale. Insta bought on android.

Not sure why this is £1.99 in the UK play store and 1.50 on iOS.

I bought this when it came out and it didn't really grab me, like others have said it got pretty grindy and repetitive fairly quickly, it also didn't control great on a phone screen. Will probably give it another try now that I have a tablet, I think that will help a lot.

Thanks for the heads up, love the art and the music and the writing and dumb humour is right up my alley

It's £2 on the Google Play UK store at the moment. Worth that? Obviously that's not a lot of money, but my perception of mobile games' pricing is totally different compared to other platforms.

Hard to say no to $2 even though I abhor mobile games. Will give this a shot though as I like the RPG elements and humor from what I saw

This game is a real blast - lots of fun building/crafting/making a home in the wilderness style gameplay.

It's $15 on Steam for the exact same game. It's worth it.

I grabbed this on my iphone. only played a bit so far, its very good, and also extremely reminiscent of Don't Starve. Maybe too much.

Man I tried to like the game, it was pretty awesome at first, but I just got bored after 3-4 hours. Just walking across samey looking wastelands got boring.
