Creative Zii Egg - Android Media Player

It looks like the original iPhone. But you guys are ridiculous... there are only so many ways you can make a portable device with a wide screen on it...

While I agree that similarities are bound to happen, to have rounded edges with a border lip that extends from the side to the face of the device with one square button under the screen on a device called Zii...come on, we can't make a case for originality here. You can look at the vast array of touchscreen cellphones from the Glyde to the Dare to the new Chocolate, you can look at the Zune HD...it's not hard to make a device that doesn't match all of the style bullet points of the iPod touch/iPhone.

edit: Simply look at the Samsung P3. There's a difference between a portable device with a large screen and an iPod touch.

If I didn't have a phone that was completely capable of meeting my portable needs (wifi/mp3 player/movies/good browser) then I would be jumping for joy right now. It does seem great, I'm not hating. It's just very familiar in it's design.

wow, i'm surprised this thing doesn't have a FM tuner. what the fuck creative?

shit., considering the zune, i was expecting hd ratio.

i'd trade the gps for hd radio...

and i gotta say, after the zen and zen x-fi, this isn't very creative at all...

I'm curious, anyone know what the processor is in this? Specs seemed to detail everything but that.

edit: Or is it this nebulous Zii Chip that Android is optimized for?

I have always liked Creative players because they always seemed to have the most functionality with less hassles than other players. If this thing is drag and drop and I don't have to convert anything I might get one to replace my Touch.

creative has had the rounded corners thing since the Nomad(before the ipod). What it looks to me is that they took a zen x-fi removed the controls and made the screen bigger.

As someone who absolutely loves Android, but hates monthly phone fees, I'm seriously considering this... the specs are so much better than the Dev Phone 1, despite being priced the same...

The ambiguous thing is ordering the SDK on the website, it says only after you buy it do you get an installer "upgrade" (which also is yet to be made available, supposedly "coming soon") to Android. Maybe after I contact for clarification tomorrow I'll take the plunge.

I don't see why that would matter in this case.

What if the Android community dies off? I know it would seem insane at this point but it could happen...

And fyi I was refering to hardware support ;)

the fact that this device was being leaked as the "next iphone" shows just how much it resembles one.

that being said, i love the look and would have loved to see it actually be the new iphone. too bad...

does this have a sexy matte back like the mockups for the 3GS had?

offtopic:

acctually the original iphone Icons looks pretty shitty. Not that the Wii i mean Zii icons look better but i hope you can replace the icons.

Some interesting features, but the responsiveness and the framerate seem to be a notch below the Tegra. But always good to see some more competition on the smartphone front, it really seems to be kicking off right now, with the Snapdragon, Tegra and Zii.

I guess we don't know yet, but will consumer versions allow for open development? I'm talking about apps as well as modifications to the system software. That's the most important thing for me.

Wow, I don't even say that one looks better than the other and I get attacked by 20+ PC fanb**s too insecure to tie anything they like to an APPLE name.

That's sad. Really sad.

Who gives a fuck if a company is popular, the product is obviously a rip off, get over it.

You made an obvious, and mostly irrelevant point.

That's close to asking what if the iPhone community dies off. Android appears to be hitting a critical mass in terms of devices and carrier support.

Is it feasible to say that someone could program a softphone into the device so VOIP services could be used when connected via Wifi?

Yes. In fact I think there might be some apps right now that could turn this into a VOIP phone.

If it has a microphone then it should be pretty easy. There's a bunch of stuff to setup skype to make calls with a jailbroken ipod touch.

Please note: There were handsets that looked like the iWhatever before the iWhatever.
"Apple did not invent black and a screen!"

Please share (of course, you just won't reply.) I don't get this "denial hater" type. I'm not a fan of many things but that doesn't mean I need to deny their influence or contributions to a market. Seems you do.

Will this have the Android marketplace built in

I don't think anyone knows. I would expect it to, but I don't think it's been mentioned yet.

Yes. You could also develop a fully featured phone application that dials out of your regular phone using bluetooth.

I'd love to see a "Phone" that was just a tiny box with sim card, antenna, and bluetooth. It's just a conduit for smarter devices not tied to your service provider.

Vendors can ship with either (or both?). I think they're expecting that coders will want the base Android environment for development. Supposedly Plazma will be compatible with Android apps.

This dev edition won't be different from consumers? I just want to buy and see what it is unless this is more like a debug version.

This seems really strange to me. Who are these people that still listen to FM radio?

I find that when I bike to work, listening to the news on the radio is better than music. So I guess I am one of them.

yeah, the name of the thing, plus the font used for it, are big Wii ripoffs.

ultimately, i don't care if this thing looks just like an ipod touch or not. i just wanted an Android device to play around with and this seems like the one to get. 200 bucks and BYOSDC

it won't be my main player but it'll be interesting to see what differences there are between this and the iPhone OS firsthand

people that live in NYC, where there's still tons of radio to listen to in addition to listening to their own music?

you know, news, talk radio, sports, music...

Actually that video was pretty enlightening -

They couldn't fit the 'e' in Web Brows on their Zii interface
There is no Market in the android interface (boo!)
